Costs 25 silver per from Alchemist Karloff <Corpse Dust Vendor> (posting from Beta period)
A stack (20) costs 5 gold, not cheap but better than nothing when there is no humanoid corpses near by..
Seems to be sold by the Field Repair Bot 110G for 50 silver (instead of 25), so that makes it 10g per stack when you buy off it in raids.

1) It seems to be sold by all Northrend reagent vendors and vendors in major cities.
2) Previously it costed 50 silver per piece and the cost for a full stack was 10 gold.

This item has been in the game even in vanilla WoW. Mid level undead like the ones in Duskwood could drop it, till it got "fixed". Even back then this was a white item, but without use.

Leaving aside the much interesting sentence above... This item is required for Death Knight's to cast their Raise Dead spell, when not in the presence of a nearby corpse.
The need for the reagent can easily be overcome with the following Minor glyph: Glyph of Raise Dead

Since patch 4.0.1 I haven't needed this at all, and I've mostly been playing in Dire Maul, where there aren't many human corpses conveniently lying around.

Sadly death knights cannot use dust anymore to animate the dead. If they could then Varian Wrynn would be a great ally.
