This is one of the best, if not the best red-socket pvp gem for any spellcaster running a double-dps 2v2 team in arena.

In season 4, many of the gladiator/duelist mages that hit high 2k+ ratings stacked as much +haste as you could get, because frostbolt was pretty much 80% of our effective damage.

Come WoTLK, almost every single team you face will have a substantial amount of magical resistance. All mages have anywhere from 80-140; Frostknights, which have become more prevalent with the nerf to Unholy in 3.0.8 have an aura that gives 80. Paladins have resistance auras, shamans have resist totems, druids give mark of the wild, the list goes on. From my experience playing rogue mage to 2100 S4, one resisted fear, sheep, frostbolt, cyclone, etc. can mean the difference between a win or loss for you oR the opposing team.
