If this mount has drop chance 0.5% like any other rare mount, then your average time to get this achievement (and accordingly, the Wintergrasp meta achievement) is 1/(0.5/100/10*50) = 40 years, assuming you run it regularly every week... Sounds like fun!

The drop CHANCE might be 0.5% but that doesn't mean it drops once every 3-4th year.. lol.. its about luck.
And yes, this drops on both heroic and normal VoA.

Assuming a drop chance of 0.5% on both normal and heroic, you have a 99.5% chance of not seeing it drop on any given run. Thus if you run Vault of Archavon 100 times in a given year (out of 104 opportunities in most years), you have a 60.5% chance of not seeing it drop even once in that year. If you only run it 50 times, your chance of never seeing it that year is about 77.8%.

What this means is that if you kill Archavon as often as possible, you still only have about a 40% chance of seeing a mammoth drop in any given year. If you only run normal - or only Heroic - it's less than 25%. Given these numbers, it's reasonable to expect that - on average - you'll only see one drop every 2 to 4 years. If the grandparent was under the impression it drops only in heroic, then 40 years isn't an unreasonable estimate at all.

The "chance" of winning Powerball on a single ticket is roughly 0.0000006844%. That doesn't mean a ticket only wins every few thousand years - it's about luck. It does, however, mean that you probably won't ever win.

This definitely deserves to be a Feat of Strength, and not connected to the Wintergrasp Meta Achievement.

Atm this achievement isn't really justifiable by Blizz, as it tends to fly in the face of the precedent they've set with other rare mounts (Feats of Strength, and not worth any achievement points). However, Blizz doesn't always go with the logical option...

THAT SAID, I couldn't help but notice that there are two 'item not found' versions of the Grand Black War Mammoth listed as criteria for this achievement. Perhaps at some point in the future it will be added to the WG vendor for a huge amount of shards (say, 2k). One can dream...

I've only seen one of these mounts. Most of the top achievement people don't even have this achievement. I've never seen it drop. No one in my guild has it. I did finally see one player with them in a battleground. This achievement is sadly near impossible. I have almost all the achievements but this one.

This dropped for me a few days ago but no achievement was granted. A GM ticket resulted in the following email:

"The information you supplied has been added to our own. We thank you for taking the time to report this matter, and we appreciate your dedication towards making the World of Warcraft the best possible game it can be."

I won the roll for this mount today after downing Koralon on a guild run, first time I had been to VoA in months and no achievement. A second one dropped after downing Emalon and one of our healers won the roll for that one.

I think the drop rated has been raised,2 drops on 10 man voa,and droped for another guild member same day and i heard ppls on trade chanel about some1 ninjaed this in same day.

I just spoke to a GM and he told me it is going to be fixed in 3.3 so you will all receive your feats of strength eventually. :)

Won the mount with a roll of 27 and did not recieve any FoS. Since i'm a guy who loves to flex i made a ticket and apperently this is bugged and will be fixed in 3.3.

I believe Blizzard might have taken this achievement out simply because of the fact it is becoming much more common, with what I believe is an upped drop-rate, and the fact that there are currently 3, soon to be 4 bosses in VoA

Anyway, to give out some happy news, I received my Grand Black War Mammoth on 12/12/09. I got this achievement after using the item. It's pretty obvious this was implemented to prevent people from just passing it around for the feat of strength.

The Reins for this mount are attainable for 2000 Honor points from the Wintergrasp Quartmaster Stone Guard Mukar Garde de pierre Mukar as of this writing. There is one for Horde and one for Alliance. No worries about rolls on these mounts. Just save up your HP and you are golden! Hope this helps and sets some minds at ease! Will this become account bound in pandaria?

For those who were hoping this was account bound - it's not - unless your toons are in the same faction. As of this post, I moved one of the toons from my horde server over to my alliance server (the toon it was actually WON on) and it is still not account bound, however, even with removing the toon that won it.. my horde toons still show as having it. I've opened up tickets on this even tickets on why it wasn't account sharing in the first place and no one seems to know why.

But just a heads up on if you're missing alliance only/horde only mounts that normally convert when you faction change - they will get deleted if you transfer factions, NO MATTER IF THEY ARE RARE OR NOT.

Will update if I get a response or fix on this issue.

Please vote up - so no one else wastes $55 or $30 dollars making the same mistake I did for Blizzard's current incompetence.

Got this FoS on my 487 SV hunter. Relatively easy to solo at lvl 90, only Lightning boss required me to do anything but attack, Happy Hunting!
