It is said that Blizzard will make players go there as the final step of a major quest chain that covers all of Zul'Drak, just like players go to the Deadmines as the last step of a quest chain that determines who leads the Defias Brotherhood and where their headquarters can be found. Also, in terms of difficulty and level at this point, this will be the "Old Hillsbrad Foothills" of WotLK. And as of beta build 3.0.2.8885, this place is now open as a level 76-78 5-man instance.

I like how there is 5 bosses and only 10 blue drops. Make getting items you're after much easier. 50% to get the blue you want is hard to beat :)

This instance is perfect for quick and easy leveling.

Our group consists of a feral druid, arms warrior, marksmanship hunter, a retardin and me (resto shaman). Except for the paladin our gear is mostly from SWP.

When we started doing Gundrak, I was just 72, the paladin was 73 while the others were 74 (rather close to 75). It wasn't difficult at all and now that 3 of us are 75 it's a breeze to rush through the instance.

Pulling multiple groups at the same time isn't a problem at all for most of the groups. Of course, poison cleansing totem shines here as there are lots of AoE poison thingys. Our best time was probably about 15 minutes for the whole instance.

First boss: Slad'ran
Does AoE nature damage & poisons (like many of the mobs in this instance) and morphs the neutral snakes into adds. Was really easy for us.

Second boss: Drakkari Colossus
Changes between "giant" and mojo elemental after 50% every time. (first giant to 50, then elemental to 50, giant to 0, elemental to 0 -> death). Changing phases = aggro reset. Haven't really paid attention to anything else, sorry :\

Third boss: Moorabi
The fewer HP he has, the faster he casts his "Transformation" ability (=25% more damage iirc) which can be interrupted. Starts at 4 seconds or so and when he's nearly dead it's hardly possible to interrupt. Doesn't do much else that is important I guess :)

Final Boss: (nonheroic anyways): Gal'darah
Enrages, charges and does a nasty 360° cleave/bleed combo which can stack really high. Melees should be aware of that. Also, he transforms into a rhino and impales one from your group (except for the tank) on his horn .. quite funny :)
Shouldn't be too difficult when people know what they're doing.

Overall at 73 the instance gives you about 7.1% of a levelup and takes 15 minutes when you're quick. It's the best instance i've seen so far (for leveling) and more fun than Utgarde or Ahn'kahet in our opinion.(##RESPBREAK##)16##DELIM##asakawa##DELIM##

A full clear on Heroic mode awards ~2250 rep with the faction of your choice (you need to wear their tabard, of course).

EDIT: Why rate this down? It's included nowhere in the other comments, and it's valuable info, because Gundrak awards more rep than most other instances.

Just healed this on regular as a level 75 resto shammy with a level 76 prot pally; was way easy and we chain pulled most the time making the run really fast. You can also complete 2 quests that are given nearby that are not part of chains so it's really easy xp, and would definately recommend doing this over Violet hold if you're looking for quicker xp.

On heroic difficulty; last boss is the only one who can give you trouble. His enrage will wipe the party if you don't have a hunter tranquilize or a rogue with the poison (can't remember the name)

Unless the tank's got great Dodge/Parry/Block chance, he will take A LOT of damage each hit and he hits every 1,5 sec i think. (when enraged)

Other than that, quite easy fight, he just packs a punch

From my experience with this instance, the easiest way to do it on heroic is with two healers and two DPS. This is primarily for the Colossus and the final boss - the Colossus is a pain because of how much moving is required, and having two healers makes it much less likely that all your healing will be stuck in mojo puddles the whole time. And on the final boss, unless your tank has really high avoidance, you'll be glad to have the extra healing. ESPECIALLY if your main healer gets impaled at a bad time. (Like there's a good one?) Granted, once you start to outgear the place it won't be so necessary, but it's vital early on when you're still in blues and greens.

Solo-healed heroic as a holy paly with ~1550sp and 22%crit.
Hardest i found was the first boss, as we had a melee heavy group that was taking alot of aoe damage from poison.
All bosses are pretty hard on healing, and the last one particularly, but since the damage was not as spread, it was easier for me to heal as a paladin.
Other classes might have different experiences.

Overall i found it a harder place than Nexus, Draktharon or Old kingdom

Just gunna throw it out there Do not try to do this place with all melee dps snake boss will whipe you. I just did it like 5 times whiped all of them and i have 540def and 20k+hp! You just gotta have ranged dps here on heroic.

Has anyone noticed that if you face opposite the colossus boss and look down, you'll see what looks to be a snake tail. Is that possibly associated w/ an unannounced raid instance?

When you're facing the Drakkari Elemental boss ( The huge rock boss ) If you go to the opposite rail, the one he is facing, you can look down and see a LARGE snake. Could possibly be a future raid boss, hey..why is Gundrak seperated from the main building? :P

Note that this instance and the Culling of Stratholme have no jewelcrafting recipe drops. All the other heroic/80 dungeons do.

Strange, considering that Shifting Twilight Opal and Sovereign Twilight Opal are not currently in the game. They should drop in those two dungeons.

Blizzard seems to be inconsistent to whether the name is "Gundrak" or "Gun'drak." The LFG menu displays it as "Gun'drak," but the Zul'drak map shows "Gundrak." IMO, they should make the apostrophe standard to keep it consistent with other troll zones.

When you go in the eastern entrance to this instance you appear on the western entrance inside.

When you go in the western entrance from outside, similarly, you will appear on the eastern one inside.

Slad'ran (first boss) is truly annoying even to heavily geared groups! I know Naxx heroic dps and occasional tanks who still have nightmares about him on heroic mode and otherwise find the rest of the dungeon extremely easy...Given his epicness and the great soundbites he has as he massacres most groups, anyone know how to listen or pull out his sound files with script commands, please? :) Quotes below:

Afraid there will be no raid here. Blizz anounced IIC to be the last raid, following after Toc.

I think Blizz missed out an oppurtunity here. The big building outside Gundrak, the huge serpent tail, and the troll theme never gets old:) And ofcourse Wotlk has considerebly less raids(Naxx-OS-Maly-Voa-Uld-Toc-IIC) in comparison to TBC

Also, Wowwiki states that the leader of the frost trolls is called Frost King Malakk, http://www.wowwiki.com/Frost_King_Malakk
yet we never had to face him in Gundrak.

The only small chance i see is that it somehow will be a Cata raid, so that Northrend will not be totally worthless after Wotlk, but i highly doubt it. Too bad.

How do I get into Gundrak?

If you're asking this question as you circle round and round the large building that one would expect to house the dungeon, stop and instead head into one of the smaller buildings to the northwest and southeast of Akali, the chained rhino. Check with your party, but the most common entrance is the one to the northwest, by the meeting stone.

Using this place to get exalted with old world reps. Takes about 10-15 minutes for a full clear, ~1800 rep. As a 324 ilevel prot warrior, I was taking the mobs 3 or 4 packs at a time. The mobs are still green though, so you get all the xp/honour proc abilities and the rep is, I assume, greater than the lower level dungeons you can farm for this.

Edit: Almost forgot, full clear for me doesn't include the damn fish. I don't even know if they give rep.

Tanks, for the love of all that is good in this world, please don't pull all of the rhino mobs at once before last boss. Not only will they come within millimeters of killing you immediately, they will silence your healer into oblivion. 3s silences all around, at all times!
