Deux techniques pour farmer ces fragments.
La première consiste à faire des zones d'archéologies en Uldum pour récolter les fragments directement.
La deuxième consiste à faire en boucle les zones archéologiques de Draenor pour obtenir des Artéfact restauré et acheter les fragments.

Explication des strat et avantages/inconvéniants.
(Par convention, je vais appeler les zones d'archéologies: ZA)

=1=
Pour faire pop un max de ZA en Uldum, il faut faire les ZA les plus au nord de Kalimdor en premier. Attention, important: il faut remonter au nord, même si cette zone viens de poper APRES celle que vous venez de faire. TOUJOURS la plus au nord.
En faisant descendre les ZA ainsi, vous finirez par obtenir les 4 ZA en Uldum. Source: commentaires anglais sur le plan de la fiole des sables. Testé et approuvé.

*Avantages:

Vous permet de découvrir bien d'autres artéfacts avec la quantité de ZA sur le continent. Entre autre, vous pourriez facilement tomber sur les rares d'archéologies, surtout en fossile. (mascotte, monture).
Vous gagnerez facilement des sous: les objets d'archéologie des elfes de la nuit font souvent apparaitre des objets à 100po et parfois plus.
Cela vous rapprochera des hauts faits de découvertes des races troll, elfe de nuit, fossile.
Monstres environnants BL et peu agressifs.
Acessible en vol dès le niv 60

*Inconvénients:

Vous ne commencerez pas à voir un morceau Tol'vir avant quatre ou cinq ZA. Plutot frustrant, vous aurez l'impression de ne rien avancer. Ca passera vite lorsque vous aurez vos ZA en Uldum.
La limitation de up d'archéologie. Si vous n'êtes que niv 1, il est possible que vous n'ayez simplement pas le niveau pour creuser les ZA de Kalimdor (Si supposé qu'il faille un niveau pour cela)
Le cas échéant, vous stagnerez vite en level. Impossible d'atteindre le niveau max, et probablement même pas le 600 en farmant là bas.
Le trajets de voyages sont affreusement longs. Parcourir le continent est très chronophage. Environ dix minutes de vol sans rien faire, parfois plus.

=2=
Pour la méthode deux, c'est simple. Vous voyagez de ZA en ZA en Draenor, sans aller ailleurs. A chaque nouvel item, vous pouvez obtenir un Artéfact restauré . Cet artefact est échangeable à Ashran contre des boites d'archéologies, entre autres pour nous: Caisse de fragments archéologiques tol'vir. Et dedans, vous aurez directement votre monnaie.

*Avantages:

Peu de voyages entre les différentes ZA.
Permet de up archéologie jusqu'au niveau 700
Haut fait d'archéologie de Draenor et du niveau 700

*Inconvénients:

Gains d'or nuls (à moins d'obtenir une quête d'artefact restauré en parfait état)
Monstres agressifs et haut niveau: dangereux pendant le farm
Lieu de farm accessible qu'au niveau 90 minimum. Niv 100 conseillé pour les ZA de Nagrand

There really need to more/higher spawns of Uldum digsites. The zone is overflowing with artifacts and relics such that you are stumbling over them and punting them outta the way while you are questing. But when it comes to Archaeology? Nope. You are pretty much outta luck. That mountain of artifacts doesnt count.

Make sure you get the Uldum digsites right away when they appear. You wanna make sure that those digsites are always available to be replace by new ones. Betting all of us have had that moment with like 3-4 digsites back-to-back appear in Feralas. Maybe multiple times. But if you have 3 digsites in one zone and the Uldum digsite comes up after finishing the 2nd... Go get the Uldum one. Come back for the third. Just in case it spawns one too.

after leveling to 525 skill, i still didnt get any tolvir sites. i was forced to farm the same boring night elf, troll, fossil and the 1 dwarf site in kalimdor while at profession cap just so 1 measly site cud pop up in uldum.

From when I got 450, I must have gotten at least 50 dig sites before a single Tol'vir one showed up. Got a couple rares and tons of common artifacts in that time.

Cmon you guys.. it's a game and its fun.. i should not be easy to get epic gear, you have to work for it, otherwise everyone will run around with the same gear in no time..I dont have the Scimitar of the Sirocco or the Zin'rokh, Destroyer of Worlds but i will dig after both until i get them, even if it will take a year, I dont care, becose I love the game and I love the challenge.. Do you remember the turtle from Northern? I have to make over 4500 cast to get it but I dident give up.. so stop whining about 50 digsites and do like finfangfool... work for it, get it and make everyone else jealous..
just dig dig dig and get eeepic ;)

i don't care what you guys say there are zero sites in uldum i'm 525 and i've spent 8 hours str8 farming every single dig site in kalimdor and all i've seen is troll night elf and fossil i've got all the useless rares even a lvl 60 BoA epic tol'vir doesn't exsist don't waste your time sorry but i can't believe my luck is that bad to where the spawn rate for tol'vir for me is .0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001%

Ugh, trying to get vial of sands for my alchy but it's taking like 20 other digs just to get one to show up in Uldum, and the first thing I got was a rare, finished that and 3 others and now have another rare, gonna take for freakin' ever at this rate

7 new Tol'vir digsites were added in patch 4.0.6:
River Delta Digsite
Cursed Landing Digsite
Keset Pass Digsite
Akhenet Fields Digsite
Obelisk of the Stars Digsite
Sahket Wastes Digsite
Schnottz's Landing

There is now a total of 69 digsites in Kalimdor with 16 of them in Uldum.
This mean that with no current digsites in Uldum you have a 16/66 ~ 24.24% (69-3 because 3 digsites is taken, and the 4th you're digging in can spawn again at the same place) chance to get a spawn in Uldum, a major buff from the previous 9/59 ~ 15.25%
Clearing all 4 sites you have a 67% chance of spawning a Tol'virt digsite.

These can also be used for a sweet buff in the Lost City of Tol'Vir.

When you enter the dungeon on heroic there will be a small pillar just inside on the left, with a blue !. The quest takes 1 fragment and gives a 10% damaged increase to monsters in the dungeon.

hit 450 bout 2 hours ago and started arch in kallimdor trying for tol'vir. can easily say that you can have more than one digsites at a time since there are at least 6 different spots in uldum.

Confirmed by 3 different GMs that Dig Sites will never spawn in content areas which are inappropriate to your character's level and they said you do indeed have to be level 80 for any Cataclysm zone sites to pop up.
So even though my 70 druid's Archaeology is at 450, It seems I can't ever get any Tol'vir sites :(
Just a heads up if you're under 80 or twinked at 70 like I am, Don't bother if you're after the Tol'vir rares!

today 4/28/2011 cirka 1:30am. i got my first jar and the dig sites in uldum proced 5 times in a row. finished the jar but it was not the drake. Idk if this was just a glitch, or a spirit of high hopes, or bliz trying to mess with me.anyways thought I'd turn in that info.

@ Timetrap I'm pretty sure that quest actually requires one tol'vir keystone, not an archaeology fragment. That would make it similar to the other quests that you have stated.

My Arch lvl is maxed and i'm an 85 and I have yet to see any dig sites appear in Uldum. Am I doing something wrong or does my timing just suck that bad? Any help would be great.

I'm a level 85 character, a level 525 Archeologist, and still have yet to see a dig site in a new Cataclysm zone. I feel something is amiss. Very confusing and not much info out there to find the answers or the digsites. Are these competetive like mining and herb nodes? Are they a timed spawn like some rares?

Currently sitting at 128 Tol'vir solves and only two rares (pendant and ring). And those were probably 100 solves ago. Not sure if that's normal but it sure is frustrating.

So I have had the Sandstone since before I could even dig in Uldum, I had a guildy make it and I supplied all the mats. That was back in the beginning of Cata (when I was rolling in all the gold I was making...), and I've been trying to find the recipe ever since! I've had 525 Arch since the beginning of the year just to find the Vial of the Sands for myself, however no such luck. What am I doing wrong? Should I save up the fragments and then solve after a certain huge amount collected? Or should I solve every time I can?

When farming Kalimdor, always rush to Uldum whenever a digsite appears there. Otherwise, you're taking away a spawn-slot, which reduces the chance of another Uldum-spawn slightly. It might slow you down yes, but the Tol'vir artifacts are by far the hardest to come by, so I'd rather be slow but grab any opportunity to dig in Uldum.

Due to the portal in the respective capitals and several teleporting-items, travelling to and away from Uldum is very quick.

I'm assuming a one-roll system to detemine the next digsite here - so the digsite themselves have a certain, zone-independent chance to appear. Feel free to argue the case if you have evidence that it's actually a two-roll system! We'd all be glad to know.

Know you posted this a few months ago, but if you have not figured it out yet. That is normal. I have been in Uldum trying to get that Vial recipe Since I posted on this subject back in march. I have listed all the commons I have gotten which include several Canopic jars without recipes on another posting on this site. It bums me out that Uldum is the only dig site for Tol'vir. Seems I have gotten enough night elf parts to build a castle or two, those dig sites are everywhere and you are forced to dig them up to get another shot at Uldum sites.

hey blizz how about you allow us to swap out night elf pieces for Tol'vir pieces? Kind of like the system you have for trading honor for Justice or Justice for Honor? just a thought.

Seeking to complete a newly unlocked rare artifact? Then this post is for you!

There are six rare Tol'vir artifacts:

Cimeterre du sirocco requiring 150 fragments with 3x Hiéroglyphe tol'vir that can be used (still don't have it - my warrior tank would have loved this pre-Firelands)

There is also one common artifact that alchemists will eagerly hunt for, as it has a chance of containing Recette : Fiole des sables:

While I may not have solved all 32 archaeological rares (I have 24 thus far), after hundreds of hours dedicated to the cause I can say this - there is a method to the madness! And I say madness because archaeology is one profession that should not be taken lightly. Get ready to dig... Lots.

When you arrive at a dig site, take a look around you. The surrounding mobs will generally be the best indication of what kind of archaeological finds you may uncover while surveying there. If you're surrounded by ogres, or something less obvious, then consider what the local settlements are predominantly comprised of, or who the local lore is related to.

In the Hinterlands or STV you'll be surrounded by throngs of trolls - and whadya know, the Troll Archaeology Finds go hand in hand. Wetlands, Badlands and Burning Steppes are all known for their dwarven dwellings - and similarly, so are most the archaeological finds. If animals dominate the land, then appropriately you will often find fossils.

Archaeologically speaking, the Night Elves thoroughly dominate Kalimdor, Dwarves and Trolls the Eastern Kingdoms, and Fossils neatly scattered across both. Outlands are only for the Orcs and Draenei archaeological finds. While Northrend is proving most interesting with Night Elvish and Troll Fragments popping up in addition to the expected Nerubian and Vrykul Fragments. For anything Tol'Vir, it's all in Uldum and Uldum alone (will update if this changes). Unfortunately, dig site spawn locations in Uldum share the same continent as Kalimdor - maximum total of four. This means you're gonna have to keep digging Fossil & Night Elf Frags (among others) all over Kalimdor in order to possibly have the Uldum dig sites spawn. Stay tuned!

There are always exceptions to every rule, but you'll find by and large that the above theory holds true. For those of you seeking dig site locations only, see below.

I've read that during the previous you needed to ding level 80 to unlock the Tol'vir dig sites. Can anyone confirm that this is still the case? Or is having a 450+ skill level in archaeology enough?

Apparently, Im not allowed to reply to hotdogee's comment at the top of this page (if you can explain to me why, I would appreciate it), but I have 525 archeaology skill on my level 82 warrior, and spent several hours doing arch spots in kalimdor and still not found a single spot in Uldum. So, either you need a certain level, as well as a certain rank, to find arch spots in Uldum, or I am just the unluckiest person on the planet. I have looked everywhere for a post that says you need a specific level to find spots in Uldum, but I haven't found anything about it. Just a tip for those of you who are too impatient to wait for the vial recipe.

As of patch 5.0.4 we are able to dig 6 times on each dig site, with a max total of 54 fragments per dig site. It's hard to say if that will make it easier/faster to get these fragments or not. On one hand you'll have to dig 6 times on every nightelf, fossil etc dig site for force spawn the tol'vir digsites, on the other hand you'll get 6 digs per tol'vir digsite. Maybe it evens out in the end.

When I try to force spawn tol'vir digsites I usually start up north and slowly make my way down towards south, digging on every site I pass on the way. Unlike what some people say, I dont go straight to uldum as soon as a digsite spawns, but continue my north-south route. And most of the times when I reach uldum I have 2 digsites there, but sometimes I have had 3 with a 4th spawning right after I finished the first site. I've found this to be the best strategy when collecting tol'vir fragments.

This I found was the best way for me to spawn Uldum dig sites:
1. Kept hearth at Hyjal's start point to quickly get to most northern dig sites.
2. Average run from north to south would spawn 3 dig sites in Uldum.
3. If a dig spawned north of me as I was digging and heading south i would hearth/fly to the site and dig. This only happened half the time though and usually a short flight north.
4. When 3 dig sites spawned in Uldum I would go there and dig unless the 4th dig site was close to Uldum; I would then dig it up sometimes spawning the 4th site in Uldum.
5. With 4 digs in Uldum, 2 more would spawn in Uldum 100% of the time 11 out of 11 (so far) for me; with 3 digs at Uldum I would get at least 1 extra but often 2 extra sites. Got the recipe on the 5th Canopic jar (lucky) but I kept at it for the rares.
Again this was the easiest way to get digs for ME in Uldum, I've heard that one should dig Uldum sites immediately upon spawn but I just don't see that as effective. Side note: The rares have proved more useful to me (troll/dwarf/fossil/Tol'Vir) than the ability to create a mount and sell on AH as the mats are so expensive (Unless one can copy multiple mats= cheating) . Made my gold through mutes/potions/elixirs/flasks.

this might be pretty stupid but atleast would have helped me since i wasted alot time farming pandarian ones and buy these with the boxes i received from them. anyways u need to get those kalimdor ones and u got chance to spawn uldum farming spot its 16/69-3 = around 25% chance each time to spawn it. i prefered to farm untill i did get 2 uldum ones wich goes quite fast. to get the mount took me like 12-15 hours farming so if ur not up for it dont do it^^ its really really boring and frustrating since it goes randomly that u get next the mount or not, if u r lucky u can get it like after couple or u might need to do even 100 , 200 , 500 or even 1000 times before get it. just be prepared to go allway if u rly want that mount :)

With the release of patch 5.2 you can use the item called Mantid artifact sonic locator so you only get mantid digsites in pandaria. I've been doing this for about 2 hours and handing in my restored artifacts for tol'vir fragments, i find it much quicker than hoping for an uldum digsite to pop up. hope this helps someone :)

First and foremost, the following only applies to those who are able to dig at sites in Pandaria.

The easiest way to get Tol-vir Archaeology Fragments is to purchase Caisse de fragments archéologiques tol'vir from Brann Barbe-de-Bronze at the Seat of Knowledge in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. The cost is 1x Artéfact restauré--which is obtained by "restoring" various items you solve throughout Pandaria (by a simple right-click).

If you are attempting to finish all of the Pandaria-related Archaeology achievements, then purchasing the various crates that are offered by Brann is much faster for the hard to get dig-sites throughout Azeroth.

Just putting it out there:

If you get the Mantid Artifact Sonic Locator it means dig-sites only spawn in Townlong and Dread Wastes. The digsites here are so small that it took me about 30 seconds per one.

The artifacts you get here can be traded in for 6-9 Tol'vir fragments so whoever is going for rares or the vial of the sands then this is the place to do it

At efficient speed I could do 50+ artifacts per hour

I have turned in crates for thousands of Tol'vir and Dwarven fragments and I have yet to get a rare find....I only have one left in each catagory. I feel like I'm wasting my time and the only way to get the rare item is to actually go to the Tol'vir or Dwarven digsites. Please , someone, tell me it can happen? How many people out there have found that LAST RARE by turning in crates to Bronzebeard or the dude in Ashran?

So I am trying to get my Recette : Fiole des sables on my alchemist, and I got Vase canope in 6% of the time from my tol'vir solves, but at least I got Sceptre d'Azj'Aqir, so I got that going for me, which is nice.

I just reached 400 Tol'vir solves across all my characters, no Scepter yet but i Did get the Staff and the Scarab thing and the Ring, so yeah, quite tough, also you'd think Canopic Jars would be Common but nope, they're not really

For anyone who doesn't know, as of patch 8.3 you need to talk to Zidormi in Ramkahen to turn Uldum back like it was before the N'Zoth assaults. The assaults will prevent digsites from spawning there. This is in the 8.3 content release notes but very near the end. It took some digging on google to find this info after much frustration over farming Kalimdor digsites for a couple days and still not having any spawn in Uldum.
Hopefully this saves someone else a headache!
