This is a new Archaeology race added in Patch 5.2. Mantid dig sites can be discovered in Townlong Steppes and the Dread Wastes. You can also use the Mantid Artifact Sonic Locator, that, as of the Siege of Orgrimmar, will only be found hidden deep within the Mantid Artifact Hunter's Kit, purchased for 2 Restored Artifacts.

Brief lore on the Mantid from Wowpedia:

The mantid are a race of insect-like creatures native to Pandaria. The mantid forced out the yaungol out of their homeland Townlong Steppes and devour everything in their path in order to build their own crystalline empire of ruthless warriors and scheming feudal lords. The pandaren are left reeling when the mantid's thousand-year cycle of aggression kicks off a hundred years too early and their greatest warriors burst through the great wall. The beleaguered pandaren must now face the worst swarm in recorded history while trying to isolate the cause of the mantid's erratic behavior.

Anybody know at what level this opens up? Got mine to like 400 odd but am assuming need to get it to 525 ish to start farming these? Want that gun!

Unlike the other racial artifacts you can solve these while moving which saves some travel time.

Note: like the others you can also solve the Mantid artifacts while mounted.

The Feeding Pits are a tough place to get artifacts. But the thrill of trying to avoid the mobs makes it worth it.

i now have 193 mantid fragments & cannot dig any more fragments because "i cannot carry anymore." what do i do next? to whom do i turn them in? i don't have an archeology crate.
