Could be a reference to Dark Souls 2's Petrified Egg. Once you try to take the egg, a Dark Spirit, a hostile NPC (players can also be Dark Spirits), will invade your world and attack you. This Dark Spirit hits pretty hard and has a lot of HP, subsequently he was doom to a lot of players (including me) in the game.
