PvP Pet Battles for Fun and Profit

In order to compete in pet battles against other (random) players, put a group of 3 pets in your pet slots and click the "Find Battle" button at the bottom right of your Pet Journal.

You will be put into a queue and face another random player.

The queue tries to match up players whose pets are the same level. If you pet battle with pets below level 25, you will face extremely long queue times.

You cannot see which other player you are battling - they are given the appearance of a random NPC and are unnamed.

There are lots of achievements you can complete by doing PvP pet battles, such as: Ils se soigneront quand ils seront morts, Dresseur de mascottes vengeur, Dresseur de mascottes brutal (which awards Navrecorne chétif), and Dresseur de mascottes fatal, which awards the title. Achievement progress is account-wide, so you can PvP on multiple characters.

Making Pvp Pet Battle Teams

If you want to create your own teams for PvP pet battles, there are many ways to go about this.

Fun: Pick a pet you enjoy or is fun to play and build your team around that pet. This might not be the winningest strategy but probably the most enjoyable.

Synergy:: This tactic combines pets onto a team whose abilities are complimentary and lead to huge damage combos. For example, if you have a pet who does an AOE debuff and a pet who can follow up with an AOE nuke, those two pets have good synergy.

OP-ness: This is a common tactic for Pet Battle PvP - simply put, pick 1, 2, or 3 currently overpowered pets and battle with those. Examples of currently overpowered pets for pet battle PvP include: Kaamurlott, Sépulcre, and Mange-minerai.

Also consider:

Self Buffs + Hard Hitting Nukes like Inspiration vertueuse + Vague de puissance - these combos can sometimes one shot an opponent's pet, especially if they are debuffed.

Interrupts/Stuns/Swaps such as Salto arrière, Prison d’ambre, and Portail du Néant - while not necessarily doing damage themselves, these abilities often prevent or disrupt your opponent's combos.

Variety of Pet Families - using 3 pets from a variety of families is advantageous against teams whose abilities come from one or two pet families.

Weather - often, many pets' abilities can be complimented by a weather buff. For example, using a pet that casts Appel de la foudre and then following up with Construire une tourelle can deal some serious damage.

Defensiveness - you'll want to include some defensive abilities on your team. A team of three glass cannons probably won't have a huge amount of success. The best of these abilities combine defensiveness with damage, such as Enfouir and Chiots de la Flamme.

First, (no pun intended actually) great guide. Second, Warcraftpets.com is also a good resource for pvp strategies and I would think you could include using pvp pet battles as a way to level alts while waiting for dungeon queues (winning provides quite a bit of experience for one win, especially at lower levels). Third, those pvp achievements such as brutal and deadly pet brawler are account wide, so you can get your 500 or 1000 wins between all your character's pvp battles. Lastly, you could include non-store alternatives to the teams you have, since a lot of us don't have store pets (I have 700 unique pets all level 25, and no pets I didn't earn or buy for gold). For example: Fossilized hatchling is a good replacement for alterac brew-pup in the graves team.

PvP Pet Battles are something I have only really started to try out. If you have an emerald whelping on your team or a magical crawdad, they can be really useful due to their healing abilities.

If you are looking to start with what is easy to pick up, look up the key abilities of the teams above for alternates. I'll post here when I have a list of them myself.

I mostly use this team comp, works well enough to get a 50/50 winrate or better. Whenever someone has a Chrominius (which is remarkably common), lead with anubisath idol, and use his shield on turn 2 to block their obvious howl+surge combo. The amount of concessions I've received from this simple defensive maneuver is both amazing & satisfying

Great that you wrote this guide :). Perhaps you could include an easily accessible starter PvP team using easy to get wild pets? All the pets mentioned are rather expensive on the AH and the Unborn Valkyr is one of the toughest pets to get :( .

My nephew for eg would love to do this, but he has just started playing and has little gold....

If interested in battlepet pvp, I suggest you visit Discodoggy's blog and/or youtube vids..I have over 2.5k pet pvp wins and I still find his work insightful and fun to tune into.

If looking for a free team..I suggest these 3 'wild' pets:
(p/p-power breed)-Emperor Crab (dread wastes)
use the shield move and surge and healing wave

(p/p) Imperial Eagle Chick (Grizzly Hills)
(-thrash/cyclone/liftoff)

you'll want some strong damage and added protection vs undead pets so another wild pet
(p/b -breed)Alpine foxling kit(Kun-lai summit)
-flurry-crouch-dazzling dance

This trio is free and decent vs many teams-the fox and crab do well vs undead...use the foxling first to put up your team speed boost..but watch out if your opponent has the mech.pand.dragonling..people like to start with that pet and it will maim your foxling

advice: watch out for the type of pet atks that do strong damage to your pets...and put up your crouch/shield right away to mitigate damage to your pets

So I've come to the conclusion that, if the opposing team has a Graves - just forfeit. You're never going to win. The stupid thing is just ridiculously overpowered.
