Erm. This is one heck of a coincidence, but I just looted this from a big salvage crate. On my warrior whose name begins with "Khor." Just something that made me want to look this up here. Thanks, WoWhead!

This is another hint that the Blingtrons are part of a robotic plot to construct a massive robot army. What is unclear is whether that army is fighting evil deep under the earth or whether they are plotting to take over Azeroth. Either way the Blington carrying this item was part of the resource gathering team that is harvesting trees in the Caverns of Living Steel deep underground.

The Caverns of Living Steel is located deep under the Cave of Caerbannog, located at the farrrr south eastern edge of Darkmoon Island. Its entrance only becomes accessible for 1 week when the blood moon is at its largest AND once it becomes fully eclipsed, as the tides forced upon us all by the Great Maelstrom are at its extreme ebb. (this most recent event ended today Oct 11, 2015)

To get there you must 'successfully' answer 3 questions or be flung to the winds by the guardian.
Then you may proceed, but ONLY if ye be souls of valor, for the entrance to this cave is guarded by a monster, a creature so foul and cruel that no force of battle has yet fought with it and lived! (don't fight it to get in)

The Caverns of Living Steel is one of many vast and unfathomably deep regenerative resource habitats (heat resistant geode type bubbles that extend from the surface well into the Asthenospheric mantle) used by the old masters of Azeroth to construct the pyramids outpost in Uldum and elsewhere. These, having been recently 'turned on' by unknowing adventurers, activated signal beams and sent intruder presence alarms into the great ethereal void.

The Mogu destroyed a portal system left by the Masters to instantly return here, by accident, when they turned on an earth creation machine and uncontrollably dumped massive amounts of dirt and rock all over the planet, which is why you now see much of the worlds creature-made constructions buried within. A few minor versions of these machines still exist, and why some areas once easily accessible are now nay impossible to. (the gate in one hut of the 2 villages far east of Land's End Beach in Tanaris, now in crushingly deep water, and the pearl orb gate, once guarded by a loyal death wing sized drake pet/guardian of an old master who died waiting for it to return, at the bottom of the south west Abyssal Depths in Vashj'ir are examples)

They are coming to reclaim what is theirs, and bringing a fleet of space vessels.

A side note, Blingatrons are the result of a vain egotistical gnome who made a robot of himself, which in turn made more, then one got modified by a curious goblin who thought, what if I do this... Now blings have found their way into these habitats and have been doing something that we may all regret.

This is also possibly a literary reference to Asimov's "I Robot" Series of Science Fiction Novels, Particularly Caves of Steel.
