These plans are really quite difficult to get a hold of. An extremely low drop rate as well as only dropping from a few 58-60 mobs means they rarely appear on the auction house.

These spikes are a cheap way to level blacksmithing in the 280-300 bracket i suggest picking this up if you see it floating around at a affordable price

These plans are ideal for grinding out blacksmithing. Thorium bars tend to go for about 1G a piece, making leveling from 285 to 300 cost around 12-20G per level. These plans reduce that to about 7G per level, and make the 275-300 stretch quite a bit less painful. However, like Furyo stated, these plans are extremely difficult to come across, and take quite a bit of time to locate in the auction house.

These plans are arguably one of the rarest recipe drops in the game. I bought mine for 450g from the AH and it was worth every penny. I've made over 2000g selling these for 50g each. Rare recipe = market monopoly. Buy it when you see it and you won't be sorry!

You do need essence of earth x2 however, which isnt that easy to get these days. The drop rate seems to be about 15% from those who do drop it.

If you manage to get a drop of this you have hit the WoW lottery. They usually for for 1k gold (999G 99S 99C) IF the person that gets it is nice enough to put a buy it now price.

Mabye i have terrible luck but my server never seems to sell at the norm prices. Found this recipe from Onyxia and was excited to hear about its value. It's been up for weeks at 299g buyout and no one has taken it.

Actually I happened to get these plans in a drop for my blacksmith.

This is the only shield spike without a level requirement. Since twinking was nerfed I regularly sell the spikes for 30-45g each.

So not just for leveling BS... nice moneymaker too (along with Lil Smoky, Pet Bombling and Mechanical Squirrel Box (yes those last three are engineering... so?)

I had this pattern drop from Greater Darkmoon Prize. Which you buy from the fair for 40 tickets. This is the only time i've seen these plans, and ive been looking for years.

I just got this recipe as a drop farming Southsea pirates for the achievement "Insane in the Membrane". I've killed thousands of pirates for that achievement and this is the first recipe that I've seen drop. I looked it up and found out how rare it is. I wouldn't have farmed for the recipe but it's a nice way to break up the monotony of killing the pirates for reputation.

While doing my weekly Black Wing Lair Run today, I ran my usual beatdown on 'Ol Blacksnoot, hoping for a rare scroll-drop of the lower-level Blacksmithing variety. After looting his corpse, I heard the *rattle* of a Scroll being dropped into my bags. Quickly sifting through the usual pile of purples, some blues, and gem bags, I found a Thorium Shield Spike pattern. Just stared at it stupidly for a second, then cheered. Every time I've seen this on the AH the price has been over 30,000 Gold, way out of my reach. I've been trying to find this pattern for a year. That's 2 rare patterns this week from Nefarian!
