Though this is a quest item, it's one a player is able to use.

If you equip this item in your trinket slot, it will drain both your mana and your hp until you either remove the item or you die. The number it drains both by is random, so sometimes it will only drain a low amount of hp/mana every second (100 of each), or it will drain a large amount of hp/mana (500 of each). Usually the numbers will fall inbetween the two extremes.

Although you are technically supposed to turn this in to complete the questline it is involved with, you might want to hold onto it for it's special lethal properties

When a character is killed by equipping this item, that character will not suffer any armor damage. This is useful if one needs to kill themself in order to speak with ghost characters, such as the ghost in BRD in order to get the Shadowforge Key quest.

Also, if you get stuck in a location that you cannot easily get out of and your hearthstone's cooldown is not up yet, you can use this item to kill yourself so that you can be sent to the nearest graveyard.

Yea, I have this trinket it and I love it, I use it alot because for my guild, because we differ on what to raid, so if I fly to Eastern Plaguelands to go to Naxxramus, and then my guild leader decides to do MC or BWL instead, and I flew from Ironforge, well I just put on the trinket mid-flight and it kills me sending my body and my ghost back to Ironforge with no durability damage at all.

That's an awesome use, Striders.

Personally, I use it most for Scholo runs when nobody has key and we don't have a warlock to hellfire/rez. Just kill yourself and rez on the other side of the door. Save 15g, don't need the key :D

it despawns if you abandon the quest, so thats the cost, you must have the quest on you art all times if you want to use it

The damage inflicted from this is affected by physical damage modifiers like Shadowform and also the DOT portion of resilience, and the damage inflicted is random, and it can go as low as 100 per second.

So, if you're one of those warriors with 14,000 hp, 490 resilience, and a pocket healer druid, you can equip this in a BG (it does not work in Arena) and be permanently immune to all CC that breaks on damage (the damage is inflicted every second) for the entire duration of the battleground. ~120 DPS is much less than a lifebloom tick.

Oddly enough this trinket has another use I discovered recently while finishing this chain for the Loremaster achievement...

For some reason it triggers the new plagueheart 2 piece set bonus (which is normally supposed to proc off damage from your immolates/corruptions) giving an increased crit chance on your next shadow bolt or incenerate...

So I guess if you dont mind having to find a way to heal yourself during a fight you can trigger the bonus before a fight begins... Clearly a bug that may or may not be corrected by Blizz in the future...

This can also be used in Halaa to kill yourself, you will receive a token for it.

Wwwwhhhy? Why did they change this item? I guess, like all of the above posters, I will be completing the quest and getting this useless item out of my inventory now. I just hope they don't take away more 'doohickeys' like this! :( Bad Blizzard! Bad!
