So, I just got this from the Small Chest inside the Withered Army Training.
The small chests respawn while you're still inside so what I did was I cleared a good amount of the place then just ran back and forth from the start to where I cleared. The chests can respawn at any location and I think there can be at least 2 up at the same time from the start to before you get to the giant. I stopped there but there are more small chests after him. so make sure you check all over the place.

This is bad design to get the plate pattern , why have the plate drop from RNG while you can rep grind for the cloth and leather and im yet to see the mail drop from any thing . This makes no sense

How rare is this schematic? I've run the Withered Army scenario each time it's up (minus a couple of occasions where the scenario bugged out) and have not seen it after clearing it each time.

Has anyone looted the Rank 3 without having the Rank 1 or 2 schematic? I'm only asking because I managed to loot a Rank 3 Alchemist recipe from a WB despite not having the Rank 1 version.

Did the senario. Took me about 2 hours to get the recipe to drop. I cleared all the way up to the giant and then went back and collected the chests that respawned. Took me about 15 trips back and forth to get the recipe to drop. Probably 25 chests totals.

i cleared the instance and went back and forth before finishing. don't know how many laps i did but i got my recipe in my 79 box. good luck!

I got curious and I sat in Psyllich's (sp?) room and hung out while doing other stuff around the house. When I came back I found that some of the chests in that room had respawned despite the fact that I hadn't been looting since clearing that room at all. THIS MEANS that the respawns may be TIMER based. If this is true the best place to farm this pattern is to literally just hang out in the Giant+ area. Additionally, it may help tighten everyone's laps instead of running all the way back to the beginning.

I can confirm this still drops in BFA. I've just received it after two or three hours of running back and forth and opening chests after clearing the whole place...

I looted the small treasure chest more than one hundred times, it didn't drop, so as usually, when I don't get rare drop Blizzard gaslights me into thinking I'm doing something wrong, so I did engineering questline for Legion starting in Dalaran until I got previous ranks in this recipe (second can be bought in Azsuna from the Flintlocke guy), after that I got it on first attempt of doing Withered Army training again. Maybe do that just to not feel gaslighted

As there are some misleading informations, here is fresh recap of my insights of grinding all recipes which drop from Small Treasure Chests in Suramar Withered Army Training scenario.

When inside Scenario, talk to Thalyssra and she will spawn your Withered. Clear whole scenario, but DO NOT TALK TO OCULETH neither click Beacon next to him. Instead return and look for small chests which will keep respawning. You need Withered by your side to be able to see Chests. Also do not leave them too far behind or you will end Scenario.

Chest can drop following recipes: Dreadleather Bindings Rank 3 (Leatherworking), Ironsight Cranial Cannon Rank 3 (Engineering), Prophetic Band Rank 2 (Jewelcrafting).
All recipes require Legion Skill 1 to drop, however you may want to have their lower rank taught before attempting to farm it.
Drop chance of recipes is reportedly ~2% (WoWhead may show lower numbers, because it counts all attempts, even from players without desired profession).
There are ~10 chests scattered around zone which have 15-30 minute respawn. THEY DOES NOT HAVE FIXED SPAWN AREA thus can re-spawn anywhere in whole scenario. This means when you are camping only specific area, you will start seeing less chests every round as they may be already spawned on other area you decided not to visit.

I was cyclng 2nd part of scenario over and over until I had only 2 chests spawned in whole area. I have returned to first part and found 8 chests spawned really close to each other.
One cycle takes ~10 minutes. To ease your sanity, I suggest taking 10 minutes break between each cycle because of chest respawn time. You will find more chests per cycle this way. Just be careful not to get logged out.
