Actually, this item is for making Refined Deeprock Salt. You do NOT need it for making Cured Rugged Hide.
If you wish you can buy the Refined Deeprock Salt and Rugged Hide from the AH and make the Cured Rugged Hide without ever having to touch the Salt Shaker.

For creating a Refined Deeprock Salt you need the Salt Shaker along with a Deeprock Salt. Which drops from: http://www.wowhead.com/?item=8150

If your guild is large enough it could be useful to have one stored in the guild bank for communal use by leatherworkers, since the cooldown is per character. Saves on mat costs and bag space.

Note: The Salt Shaker will only make one refined salt every 3 days, so if u were like me and was hoping that it would turn my whole stack of Deeprock Salt into refined salt, wont work. I fugured it wouldnt work but like i said i was hoping! so plz dont down mark, just trying help out other noobs.

So am I correct in assuming that if I had two of these I would still only be able to get one refined salt every three days?

I mean really... I have about 30 rugged hides sitting in the bank, and they are just about worthless unless they are cured.

90 days to cure all my hides is laaaaame.

Yeah the CD on this is awful.

In my old guild the salt shaker was kept in guildbank to make sure all LW could use it when their CD was up.

On my server the mats for this run 15-20 G's

But I was able to get an Engineer to make this for 9 G.

On the 3.1 PTR this has no CD and it's virtually instant cast.... so far.

You seem to have forgotten that this is still used by those who are leveling their leather working. Although the items that require cured rugged leather are obsolete for a level 70, they are still useful to those who are at 250-300 leather working.

Not really, the items that use it are pretty pricey in terms of the other mats when compared to other options for leveling. It's moderately useful for leveling from 250-255 by crafting the Cured Rugged Hide but except for the Mechanical Yeti there aren't really any recipes using the Cured Rugged Hide that are useful.

Just checked in the Auctionhouse. There were 5 Salt Shakers for sale for less than 2g. Its not worth the mats producing, but you of course need it for Refined Deeprock Salt

There is no more cooldown for this item as of 5.05 or whatever.

As of 6.0 this item is obsolete. It used to make Sel de Fonderoc raffiné, which is also now obsolete. The recipes that used refined salt now use Sel de Fonderoc or Sel instead.
