Discovered it while making a bunch of Ironshield pots. FYI, you don't need an alch specialization to discover the new flasks (nor does it matter which specialization you are, if you've already picked one). Extra flask procs are possible when making flasks with elixir specialization. The new flask recipes can only be discovered by making pots that are new to the expansion. Now go forth and prosper, young lad.

So you're saying if you make enough Fel Mana potions, you can potentially learn Flask of Fort.? Can anyone verify this, and if so, which other skills can be learned from making pot's, flask's, etc...

Discovered this today while making Super Mana Potions on my priest. This is my 3rd discovery so far w/ alchemy. I'm a transmute specialist. What pot you're making at the time as well as your specialty have nothing to do with whether or not you make a discovery. It's completely random.

I seriously think the discovery chance depends on what potion/elixir you're creating.
Discovered Flask of Fortification while making Super Healing potions (as most of the people above) and Flask of Relentless Assault while making Elixirs of Major Agility.

Old stats were 1500hp and +30 defense
Old mats were 20 lichen, 10 thistle, and the same one fel lotus.

The rarest item of the recipe was the lotus before, and that didn't change so IMO this is pretty much your standard item nerf. However you can now get away with farming only these mats because it's all you can use, as compared to before when most raiders were expected to farm mats for 3-4 different elixirs.

well, i made elixir of major agility when i discovered flask of fortification, and i got flask of relentless assult while making adepts elixirs. and another alchymist from my guild got 2 other flask's from making elixir of major shadow power.

i do not belive theres certain elixirs or pots that gives you a chance to learn a special flask, just that its a certain % chance everytime you make elixirs or pots.

Learned this as a Master of Transmutation, while making Draenic Wisdom. When you consider that this takes the place of both Battle and Guardian elixir's post 2.1.0, this really isnt that good a discovery.

Just discovered this in shatt while making some Elixir of Draenic Wisdom's...

Not sure if this was one of the newer potions put in the game or not, couldn't recall exactly and was unsure to make them based on actually getting a discovery proc since as a warrior this pot has no value to me at all.. sure enough after making a batch of the draenic wisdom's scored one of the best tanking flasks in game <3

Just discovered this one. Level 70, 375 Alch, second discovery, learned making a batch of 20 Elixir of Healing Power.

The freaky thing? My first discovery, Super Rejuvenation Potion (which I was a little disappointed by), was ten potions earlier.

I'm a lvl 57 and I was making a batch of "Adept's Elixir" and when I hit 316 in alchemy I was awarded this. Seems to be random, but you don't have to be so high in Alchemy as previously stated. It requires Alchemy Lab, and so I have to find out how or where to get that. Maybe I am too low for it? A search on wowhead turned up nothing about it.

Just discovered this. Was making 22 super mana pots and it hit on the last one. Gonna be interesting getting the mats. Will have to advertise. ;) Was confused at first as I have never had a discovery. Thought i had leveled in the middle of Org or something. :P

Requirements to make a discovery

You must be crafting a potion, elixir, flask or performing a transmutation that was added in TBC.

As a rule of thumb that's anything that is learnt from a master alchemy trainer, dropped from a mob in outland or purchased from a vendor in outland. The only real exceptions are the pre-TBC flasks that have been made available from faction vendors in outland.

NOT requirements to make a discovery

You don't need to be in outland
You don't need a mastery
You don't need to be 375 alchemy
You don't need to be level 70
You don't need to craft yellow or orange recipes to make discoveries. Even grey recipes can proc discoveries
You don't need to be crafting a related recipe *except* in the case of cauldrons (You can discover flasks when making potions for example)

I can confirm that you can still discover this flask while making the WOTLK flasks. I got it while making Flask of the Frost Wyrm.

Feel free to downrate this or correct me if I'm wrong, but at a glance, it would seem as if this were superior to the new WotLK flask which gives 650 hp. This one gives 150 fewer hit points, but you have 10 defense rating, which equates to around 2 defense @ 80. Now, if you go for the new flask, as soon as you take your first hit, "BAM!" That 150 health is gone. However, the 10 defense rating will be providing just that much more mitigation, it will be applied to your entire health pool during the entire boss fight, which are typically several minutes long.

So I am of the opinion that the new flask just boosts your pool for a bit more, while the old flask has the defense. Defense is the gift that keeps on giving throughout the whole fight. Better, I think.

I discovered this today while making Mighty Shadow Protection Potions. This was quite a surprise since that is a Lich King potion. I didn't think Lich King alchemy would trigger discovery for lower level stuff. Also was surprised since I thought that normally discoveries occurred in the same category.

i have discovered this a few minutes ago and just went here to look over what the hell is this. i mean it is kind of surprising when after two years being an alchemist and a transmute master you think there is no potions left to discover and you just found a lotus while finishing your Argent Crusade daily quests and just decided to make a frostwyrm flask and then SUDDENLY it dings and you discover this. i was like "uhm... saturday morning delivers".

I just learned this recipe from doing the Riddle of Steel transmute sitting in the Stormwind bank, so it doesn't seem to require BC recipes anymore

Discovered this recipe today at 538 Alchemy after making about 150 Élixir de courrouxs. I've got 1 BC transmute and 3 BC flasks yet to discover, gonna need a LOT more herbs.

Discovered this recipe (one of my last ones) earlier today after crafting multiple Flacon des ventss, but to be honest, i'd pretty much given up trying to get it and was pleasantly surprised..

.. set yourself a goal (such as getting the guild cauldron - Better Leveling Through Chemistry - (if you haven't gotten it yet)) then buy up herbs to craft the various flasks, and best of luck to you!

All told, i crafted about 400-500 Winds and Titanic Strengths before i got the Discovery - hopefully these older recipes'll be available on alchemy trainers with the new expansion!

Cata herbs'll likely drop in price as we get close to Warlords!

Since I can't find a current thread relating specifically to Burning Crusade 'Discovery!' recipes I decided to post this in the threads relating to the 'Discovery!' Flask Recipes.

Level 100 Worgen Druid, Darkscythe-Malorne.

After having completed most of the Wrath recipes through Northrend Research, I began gathering Burning Crusade recipes. Once I was down to 'Discovery!' recipes, I came to wowhead looking for threads of the best way to discover them. There's a lot of information, but no one has provided any proof as to how they have been doing it. Most of the ways described in these threads involve either a) a lot of materials, b) a lot of gold. I found a cheaper recipe that has provided results for my Alchemists, and several guildmates Alchemists AND I've provided Screenshots.. so you know it works.

Using just the Crazy Alchemist Potion recipe (skill level 400) I've learned all the 'Discovery!' recipes except the transmutes. It only requires Goldclover x2 to craft and Goldclover is, by far, the easiest herb to farm in Northrend. It exists in at least 5 zones (although Grizzly Hills 1st and Shalozar Basin 2nd provided the fastest and easiest farm).

Also of note: During The Burning Crusade, I had a Rogue Alchemist and I distinctly remember gathering enough materials to craft ~ 1000 Super Mana Potions and I discovered nearly all the 'Discovery!' recipes pretty fast. During WoD, my wife leveled a Shaman to 70 and, using this same method, discovered all of the 'Discovery!' recipes crafting only Super Mana Potions very quickly.

At 100 on my Druid, I spent about 35k gold on materials to craft Super Mana Potions and got 0 'Discovery!' recipes. I don't want to suggest that Level played a part in her easily discovering all these recipes, but it seems odd that on a level 70 character the 'Discovery!' recipes came pretty fast on a TBC recipe and at level 100 I got 0 from TBC recipes.

I know, you're all going to say, unlucky RNG, and you're probably right, but within 100 crafts of Crazy Alchemist Potion I got my first 'Discovery!' and within 500 crafts of Crazy Alchemist Potion, I learned all the 'Discovery!' flasks.

Discovering recipes may have changed with Dragonflight. The comments here will tell you you can craft Outland or later recipes to discover these flasks. I crafted hundreds of Mighty Arcane Protection Potions and not a single discovery.

I discovered all of the Outland flasks within a few hundred crafts of Potion de l'alchimiste fou.
