For some reason, these are almost never being sold on the AH, at least on my server...possibly because they are only really useful for about 25 or so levels of enchanting before you need the next rod.

Oh, well. The prices of enchanting dust and essences are really expensive, but these rods are by far the ones that concerns me the most. The Golden Pearls sells for around 200 gold on my server, and really makes enchanting one of the hardest professions to max out while leveling. Even at level 80 with great possibilities to farm, it will be expensive. And still people cry about enchanting fees: "10 gold for an enchant? You must be insane!".

My suggestion for enchanters? Have an alt who has blacksmithing to make these for you. I did that and other than mats, I haven't had to pay for a rod yet. In fact, I've been able to turn a healthy little profit by putting the extras on ah and earning the money everyone else spends on rods.

As someone who has both professions, I don't agree that it's worth leveling a BS just for that purpose. Based on AH prices, it seems to me that BS is the most expensive profession to level through the mid levels. (I can't say about the end game.) Although some items are profitable, BS mats usually cost much more than the crafted items are worth. Even if you have a mining alt (I do, fortunately), it would be much easier to sell ore or metal and use the revenue to buy the rods (even at inflated prices) than it would be to level a smith. The biggest problem might be finding a any rod for sale when you want to buy. You might need to ask a guild member or other BS and provide the 6 fel iron bars and offer a little gold besides. YMMV, but I would probably be more likely to help someone if they asked me nicely when I was on my BS and already near an anvil (found near the trainers) and if they had the mats with them, rather than if they asked using trade chat. (I've never noticed anyone asking for a rod either way.)

As Tigerjoe says above, fel iron rods aren't a good way to make money for a BS. Perhaps things are very different on your server, but based on the data I've collected using the Auctioneer addon, they cost about 45g to make, but usually sell for 35g or less and the number of actual sales is low. That's not to say they aren't being offered for >> 100g; several are in my AH right now. But they are just being listed over and over again in the hopes that someone will eventually pay that much. Since the cost of listing them is just a fraction of the sell-to-vendor price, which is a tiny fraction of what they are hoping to get, the seller can afford to do that. (The same thing is happening with a lot of gyphs.) If you think you are turning a healthy profit off the rods, I suspect you aren't subtracting out the cost of the mats. (Even if you are mining and smelting the mats yourself, there is an opportunity cost when you make the rods because you loose the ability to sell those mats on the AH, so the cost should still be subtracted, if you are trying to figure out if something is profitable.)

(ADDED: I tested what I said in the previous paragraph. I sold a few rods at 50-55g, which surprised me and contradicted my Auctioneer data, but in at least one case, they were purchased by someone who is listing rods at a much higher price, so it's not clear that I helped any enchanters. Then there is the problem that fell iron is in limited supply. When I have fel iron available, I will keep an open mind about making more.)

BTW, you can make a ton of gold as an enchanter by using the Auctioneer addon to farm the AH for items to disenchant profitably. (You would have no problem paying for rods if you did that.) It easy enough to quest on a PVE server using quest rewards and occasional green drops that armor and weapons just don't sell that well on my AH. Other severs, particularly PVP servers may be different.

In a way, the OP has things backwards. Enchanting can support BS and other crafting professions by converting many crafted items that don't sell well into enchant mats that sell for more. That is probably more useful than having an alt be a BS just to provide rods.
