Once you kill Maggoc, the chest spawns beside him. It is lootable by anyone nearby; they don't have to be a part of the party that killed Maggoc.

I located him at 68, 64, so when they say southeast, they really mean it.

I also found him at 68,55. He is a giant walking around with only 14k health so it should be that difficult, he will have the chest right behind him when you kill him.

Level 66 Destro Lock--I didn't find him; he found me, while I was engaged with one of the local serpents. Even so, I managed to take down both Maggoc and the unfriendly serpent. I lost my void walker, but I was at full health.

I didn't know about the treasure chest, so I simply tried looting the corpse, to no avail. By the time I found the treasure chest, it was no longer lootable.

So I tried again. The second time I was ready for him; he went down like a stone. There wasn't anything in the treasure chest at all... :-(
