These are easily obtained from clams off the coast of grom'gol. They are used for flash bombs and the quest to get the schematic for flash bombs.

Flash bombs are nice for guilds learning the panther boss in ZG.

if you are going to go do the quest or farm for these to make flash bombs make sure you have some form of underwater breathing be it warlock buff, potion or simply from being undead because these suckers are deep underwater and going to the surfae between every clam would be a giant pain.

Blue pearls are used for a quest in Badlands called Pearl Diving.You can get these in STV near the shore. You will find the clams to get these pearls near all the elite murlocs.

Use of a hydrocane from gnome helps with this alot.
Dont have to worry about spells running out.

Just farmed a bunch of these for alts - the giant clams in the Vile Reef in STV have a 100% drop rate (78 out of 78). Not sure if they drop in other giant clams elsewhere.

I would not even consider doing this without some way to breathe underwater and I found that most of the clams were along the two deepest ridges. The deepest ridge runs away from the beach and shows up as black and the other ridge branches off from that one. You can't miss it on the mini-map.

Interestingly enough, all other pearl varieties - small lustrous, iridescent, black, golden, shadow and jaggal - can be placed in gem bags, but not these. I thought it was perhaps it is because they aren't actually a reagent for anything, but they are actually used to make flash bombs. So I'm not sure at all what makes these blue pearls different from all other types that prevents them from being stored in gem bags with the rest of the pearls.

In light of the quest text and my own experience trying to gather these in Westfall and Darkshore, it seems that these only drop from Giant Clams in the Vile Reef in Stranglethorn Vale. Go there.

Here's a list of 9 locations (assuming you're on the quest) in case you're having trouble finding them:

27, 29

Now, obviously there are other spawns. These are just the spawn locations I noted while gathering.
Be sure to look under environmental objects. For example, there's one that spawns up top toward the end of a bridge, but there's also one that spawns right under the bridge as well.
Most of these spots require no or minimal fighting.

There is a valley in Stranglethorn that shows up as a dark blue line on your mini map, there are loads of giant clams in there and no need to kill anything.

I opened 9 giant clams and got 9 pearls it shows 60% here but I think it's 100% chance from giant clams. I didn't have the quest at the time.

These are stupidly easy to farm on a druid. All you have to have is a level 40+ druid (to avoid murlocs) with Glyph of Aquatic Form. I did this and was able to get 1-2 a minute while taking my time and chatting with friends. Respawn isn't instant, though, so it may slow you down for a little while.

The Badlands quest for this schematic has been removed in Cataclysm :( (which I found out after a lot of running around and googling).

Can anyone confirm that it still drops from Thermaplugg, or are these pearls now useless?

Also, can someone who has the schematic check if it's still working properly and using same materials?

I've found maybe 5 of these things (where QuestHelper shows them to be) and so far only gotten 2, waited for a respawn, got 0... unless there's a glitch, since prev post says 100% drop rate. I wish... taking forever.
