Velociraptors were the main "raptors" featured in the Jurassic Park movies, which is what most people think of when you talk about raptors. I think it's safe to say WoW's raptors are based on those velociraptors, meaning they're probably not a "species from another dimension" as was suggested here. It's probably just an issue with semantics.

Did they remove these from the game? I'm so unhappy I can't find them anywhere anymore on the auction house or from the fishing daily. :( These are WRAPPABLE, people. You know what that means, right? On Day of the Dead, you can wrap velociraptor skulls as presents for friends and guildmates alike! Please tell me they aren't gone. I'm so annoyed that I will have to buy skull-weapons instead. :(
