Kind of a shame they made it 20 sec / 2min like every other trinket. I enjoyed the Crab all the more for its 10s / 1min timer. Mostly you only want to use the trinket for high burst damage anyway, and lower cd means you could use it more often, even if the uptime is the same.

Edit: Well it doesn't say it has 2 minute cooldown yet, but I am pretty sure that is what Blizz is going for anyway.

Unless the stat budget is fixed, King of Boars is actually a better trinket for tanking, with more stamina, strength for threat and mastery which translates to block chance for Paladins and Warriors and straight damage reduction for bears and dks.

Edit: With the stat fix, now Earthen Guardian gives +427 stamina vis a vis +270 from King of Boars, not to mention King of Boars has its on-use effect changed from Mastery to Strength. Do note that King of Boars is still a viable trinket for threat sets.

Seems this item has had its stam budget sorted out, now a mighty +427.

Even better, it's currently not unique, only requires level 81 and only JC@475, an insane upgrade from any level 80 gear.

This broken item dropped off a mob in Nespirah in Shimmering Expanse while questing as a level 81 - item began this quest. I had already leveled my Jewelcrafting a little, so I had the 475 required, I don't know if it will drop for you before 475 and then let you start it later.
To get this trinket, you would need to collect the materials mentioned and make sure the broken item is in your inventory and you will get a "Click to Complete Quest" message and it will "restore" it to this item. I was a little confused by the "Requires Restoration" tool tip, thinking it was a skill I needed to learn, but it was only telling me to restore the item, not learn something.
Materials can be farmed or purchased.
It's a very nice tank trinket and it's not too hard to do, as long as mats are available to you.

I was doing the quest, "The Axe of Earthly Sundering." The quest item dropped from an Emerald Colossus, Lv 82 elite. I also noticed another poster had it drop for him in at 475 JC. Could this be a pseudo-world drop for JC in 81+ areas with at least 475 skill?

Guys, stop farming. I had two drops of figurines today. This and Broken Boar Figurine
Both dropped from a humanoid in Twilight Highlands, but 6-7 hours apaart (before and after I went to sleep).

Like SherBear3321 has already mentioned, the materials listed in wowhead are off. It actually requires:
6xVolatile Earth
6xElementium Bar
10xObsidium Bar

The bars are fairly expensive right now, but you can ask your friendly guildminer to sell you some cheaper.

I'm a DK with tanking MS and unholy OS, and getting these 2 trinkets is just awsome. My friend, who is also a JC, dinged 85 yesterday and did a lot of quests in this region, but he did not see the trinket drop. Keep in mind that his JC was 450 and mine was about 480.

P.S.: This one dropped for me in Twilight Highlands 38,28 from the Ogres.

I would preferred if they had linked them to some specific mobs with low drop rate instead, then it would at least feel like I accomplished something instead of running around the whole world killing random stuff hoping for it to drop :(

Wow I must have had insane luck with this because I snagged the Owl, the Boar, and this trinket within about 30 minutes of random questing in Deepholm. I had JC at around 490 at the time.

I have to say the stam on this trinket is absolutely awesome for anyone leveling in a prot spec and would probably keep it around for quite a while.

I received this and the Boar. Odd thing was that I got this when I was in my tanking spec (blood) and the other in a dps spec (frost). My question is this: does it check to see what recipe you get based on class/current spec? I know my experience is anecdotal, but it begged the possibility that you only get drops you could use from these quests.

I did about 30 minutes of farming today at Gurboggle's Ledge in Kelp'Thar forest. Lvl 82 with 524 JC.

This Figurine along with the Demon Panther, Dream Owl AND Jeweled Serpent all dropped from the Gilblins, I would definitely recommend farming this area.

I farmed here for 30 minutes at level 85 with 495 JC and none of the patterns dropped. I'm guessing the patterns are just random world drops.

I read that it's bugged for level 85's to get this item? I have grinded for hours but yet to see it, i'm also level 85.

You can't actually have two of these. If you try to right click on a second "broken trinket" quest starter item, it will say:
"You have completed that quest."

If you are level 85 it will never drop, its a known issue and Blizzard is looking int it.
Until then here is a workaround:

Find a friend with a main/alt under level 85(80-84)
Help him level JC to 475
Group together and go kill some humanoids anywhere in the high level zones
When the broken trinket drops(Example: Figurine - Earthen Guardian), the low level loots it and trades it to the high level.
The high level guy starts the quest, etc ,etc

They drop like candies. We got 4 drops in 15 minutes from humanoids in Uldum.

The quest turn-in is not actually any NPC, but its one of those popups in the right side of the screen once you have the mats.

EDIT: This was fixed today by Blizzard, now it works as intended(drops if you have 475 JC, even at level 85).
I'm level 85 and I just got a " Figurine - Jeweled Serpent" from an humanoid in TH while doing the dailies for the Dragonmaw Clan.

My findings.

If you are going for the tanking trinket and already 85 then read on.

Find a friend that is not 85, has a skill of 475 > and can tank in some way.
We had no drop of or while with a shaman after an hour. Only the intel versions dropped.

After thinking that it might be class spacific and the two classes that were wanting the trinket were a druid and a warrior we had a 80 warrior with jc at 475 come to Deepholm and hover over us while we farmed Jaspertip Swarmer and the packs of bats where they both finally dropped about about 30 minutes.

Also, if you are 85 you will not get a loot window while on group loot. The character that is under 85 will have to loot it and trade it.

HOW TO GET YOUR JEWELCRAFTING TRINKETS!

I can't tell you how or why it is bugged, or if it is not dropping as intended, but I can tell you how to get it to drop. First off go to the throne of therazane and pick up all the daily quests. Then go to the cave just south of Throne of Therazane and farm Gorged Gyreworms. Farm constantly until you get the Jewelcrafting Trinket you want.

For some reason there is a mechanic in play that you will not get your JC trinkets unless you are doing quests. I know it's a world drop and there are other mobs that will work, but I only farmed these. It took us roughly an hour or so to get our whole guild their main and off spec trinkets, but we also have a lot of jewelcrafters.

If your guild groups up to kill these, I highly recommend you only take five at a time. Remember that the drop rate is somehow linked to the daily quests, so don't chance being in a raid. We also notice if we finished the quest or had all of our quest items, that the trinkets stopped dropping. So loot quest items and throw them away. Mine the bodies for faster respawn rate.

I can also confirm that you can wear any two trinkets you want. So as a healer, I can use my owl, pop it, 20 seconds later pop my serpent cooldown. I can also confirm that you can be any spec farming these and all of them will drop for you eventually. So a ret paladin can pick up all five trinkets without respeccing.

I know there was some information floating around about level 85's not being able to grab their trinkets, but when grouped with a JC level 80-14 with 475 JC, they could see drops. I assume this is because no level 80-84's are without quests and that most 85's are in dungeons without quests.

Rate up if this works for you and your guild so that other Jewelcrafters may benefit!

The recipe for this, and the boar, dropped for me as a blood dk tank when I was farming mobs in Deepholm. I am lvl 85 with 509 JC.

The best spot to farm these are where the Stone Bats and Jaspertip Swarmers are, about northwest of Master's Gate.

As of 12-18-10 I was able to farm this in less then 5 min by my self as an 85 Warrior in Nespirah...

Im not sure if this is bugged or not, but I have had both at level 85. (Earthen Guardian and King of Boars). Both doing Tol Barad dailies. Maybe go try your luck with lvl 85 mobs?

When i landed in Uldum I was trying to free my friends from the cages (and light the hay on fire) as part of a quest starter for uldum. The mobs i had to kill, were those black dragonkin things, they dropped one of each! I was able to recieve FOUR of the quest trinkets in a matter of 5 minutes.

Don't know if thats luck, or if those mobs have a really high drop rate chance. I was 84 at the time, and prob around 480 level.

This does drop at level 85. You need 475 JC at least (it won't drop otherwise).

I got it off of the Twilight Miners in the big cave/mine by the Bastion of Twilight.

Probably just my bad luck, but I got the other 3 JC trinket quest drops all in a row before this one dropped.

Stam actually has a reduced value since Cata release. Tanks often forego the stamina stacking strategy that was so common in WotLK, and instead gem and enchant for Avoidance / Mastery. The reason makes sense once you think about it:

After you reach a certain amount of HP, stamina becomes less usefull. In WotLK this point was never reached, since you could drop from 100% to 0% in 2 hits if healers weren't spamming on you. Also in WotLK, healers scaled so well that every heal could overheal you, so stacking stam gave you more HP/s also. But in Cata there will certainly be a point where you have more stamina than you need, especially if you aggressively stack stamina with gems/enchants etc.

Just a little thought experiment: assume that stamina also has a cap like hit and expertise. The "hard cap" would be to have so much stamina that you can survive the entire bossfights without heals. This is offcourse impossible to achieve in any scenario. On the other hand, the "soft cap" for stamina is "have enough so that you can survive to be healed before dying".

For example, if you can survive tanking a boss for 8 seconds without heals, then the healer has plenty of time to heal you before you drop to 0%. He should have no trouble topping you up before you die.
Now, if you gem&enchant more and more stamina so you can survive the boss for 10 seconds without heals, the healer may get a bit more time, but if he could already heal you more than enough in 8 seconds, then that additional 2 seconds "time to live" did nothing to help you out in the fight.
In contrast, if you had instead gemmed Parry/ Dodge or perhaps Mastery, you still have "enough" stamina to survive 8 seconds (or until the next heal). If you can still survive "long enough" with unlucky avoidance RNG, you lost nothing compared to the 10 second scenario. On the other hand when you DO get the parry/dodge streaks you will save the healer a lot of mana. It's a win / win situation.

It's a simplistic example of course. A lot of this is depenant on how good your healer is, mechanics of the encounter, how much the boss can burst on you, etc etc... but it shows clearly that stamina is no longer always the "king of all tank stats" like in the old days. You can argue that giving healers breathing room in case of lagspike / having to move etc still makes stamina valuable, and while that is true, sacrificing other stats simply to get a little more stam on your gear will very likely result in less overall performance (though it was "the way to go" in WotLK).

TL;DR: If you never drop below 70% when the healer is awake, then you might as well have 25% less HP and still be just as effective.

HOWEVER,
All that being said doesn't take away that this trinket still has a lot of value for starting raiders, since it is pretty easy to acquire (and people in blues will likely not be hitting the "stamina softcap" anyway :P) and with the decent On Use effect, it will likely not be replaced untill raid gear. Just be aware that there will be a point when gemming Parry / Dodge is a better option than pure stam :)

Anyone else notice that this and that quest green stam/mastery trinket both have a nice red mention show on the tooltip, that they are unusable in arenas when you enter one?

Regardless of the tooltip warning, my health was in line with the trinkets being on my character. So, either this is a mistake for both trinkets, that they shouldn't have messages like this... or they aren't supposed to be used in arenas and they are broke in that they work.

Honestly, I can't imagine they are intentionally stopping a quest trinket from being used. Also, I don't believe the JC trinket should be stopped... otherwise why not stop 101 stam gems. I guess time will tell.

Dacake of Aerie Peak here, and I have found two of the four or so figurines, it seems as tho the Broken Figurine of _____ (fill in blank) is a random drop from the Oozes'. It is also a quest item the precedes said quest, and is NOT repeatable. However there appears to ALSO be a Pattern that drops as well, I would imagine one for each of the Figurines in question. However I have yet to verify if this is true or not so I will keep looking. I imagine that at least two of them sell like Hotcakes on our AH if they weren't BoP. Thanks for giving us JCs another item we can't use to make money with. Dacake is Goodz

They share cd, but you can use 2nd trinket after 30 seconds.

I am a BM hunter and would really like this for my pet tanking spec.
I have Jewelcrafting 525 and am level 85.
I already have had the Figurine de panthère démoniaque drop.

Are these trinkets class specific? Am I wasting my time farming for this one?

I'm not sure if any of these trinkets are class-specific but I can confirm this:
I was level 85 (Death Knight) before I started powerleveling my JC, I got it up to 475, and immediately went to Deepholm and started killing the Flayers all over the western section. After about 10 minutes, I found the Figurine du roi des sangliers , then after another 15 minutes, I found the Figurine de gardien terrestre . (This all took place on February 18th, after 4.0.6)

However, I am unsure if another will drop if you destroy/vendor the trinket.

I had this drop for my dk but i vendored the finished product because at that time i was not really interested in tanking.

HOWEVER, i am kicking myself now as i have since changed my mind and am working on changing my dk to a tank AND i have yet to see this item drop again for me. I opened a ticket with this question and will update my post once i get an answer from a gm.

Edit: It has been noted on the other trinkets and GM has confirmed it--this is a quest reward and as I have done the quest already another will not drop for me.

One thing I noticed when farming for this that I wish I had known sooner is you can apparently only have two of these broken figurines at a time. Maybe it was just a big coincidence but I am currently 84 prot pally with 516 JC and I had two of the broken figurines in my bag because I didn't need them (owl/serpent, I don't have holy spec) and after doing over 50 quests in twilight highlands I thought I should try to make the broken figurines I had first. After making the two I had this dropped in the course of 2 or 3 quests.
Make the figurines as you get them because it affected the drop rate of others in my experience.

I found that having the items did not give me quest credit. However, if you abandon the quest and pick it up again, it will complete. Note that abandoning the quest does NOT destroy the quest item.
