You can also use 10 Heavy Savage Leather to buy 1 Pristine Hide which is used is quite a few of the ilvl 359 LW patterns.

On my server, this is the only white crafting material that reliably sells for more than 20 gold each -- including volatiles.

The best place to farm this is probably in the Darkwood in Tol Barad Peninsula, near one of the bridges. Not only do you have Rôdeuse de Sombrebois and Mère des couvées de Sombrebois, which people will kill for the daily quests, but you'll also sometimes find Shipwreck Debris nodes to fish for Caisse scellée.

I found that the best place to farm heavy savage leather is in Tol Barad in the middle killing Darkwood Broodmother, Darkwood Lurker, and the Baradin Fox. Bring a tank with you to help gather them all up. I did this and was able to get 53 heavy savage leather in under an hour. While doing this you can also kill the Darkwood Hatchling Critter in the area to help with the guild achievements Critter Kill Squad (which unlocks the Armadillo Pup companion) and Crittergeddon.

During Darkmoon Faire I was able to fish a lot of these up around Darkmoon Island. They are contained in a Sealed Crate that I fished up from Shipwreck Debris pools scattered around the island.

If you're on a PvP server and Tol Borad is controlled by the other faction, I have found an alternative skinning spot that works almost as well. There is a small piece of land in Deepholm between Therazane's Throne and The Pale Roost. There are quite a few Shalehide Basilisks there that always give Heavy Savage Leather. This serves me well as a secondary skinning spot.

A good place to farm Savage Leather to turn into Heavy Savage Leather is King Crawler’s in Feralas(74/73), located in the upper pools in relation to the lake are amazing for Deepsea Scales, Savage leather, and Monstrous Claws. After approximately 60 mins of farming I had collected 76 Deepsea Scales, 182 Savage Leather, and 106 Monstrous Claw. As an 85 rogue average pull size was 3-4mobs with the occasional 5th. Fantastic place!

It appears that no mob yields heavy savage leather when skinned; only savage. Has anyone skinned this off of a mob, raid or otherwise?

As of August 3rd, 2013 patch, the Pale Roost is no longer occupied. The giants that were throwing boulders to bring down the dragons are no longer there. Goodbye to one of the richest sources of Savage Leather and gold I had found.

If you've unlocked the Front du Magma in Mount Hyjal (daily quest area), the non-elite Cinderweb spiders that are located in the northeast (The Widow's Clutch) are great for skinning. Respawn time is fast and they are easy to kill. There are hostiles ones and neutral ones. I typically focus more on the hostile ones because the neutral mobs are perched atop the columns there and they use their webs to pull you up. If you get yanked up while you were already fighting ones on the ground, it'll cause them to evade. They may reset, but I haven't sat up there long enough to find out. I feel like farming these may slow you down. The ones on the ground spawn fast enough that there isn't really any downtime to justify killing the neutral ones.

To get all recipes in Leatherworking that require Cuir sauvage lourd to buy, AND make just one of each piece of armor, you'll need 748 Cuir sauvage lourd or 3,740 Cuir sauvage or 18,700 Lanières de cuir sauvage.
To just purchase the recipes that require Cuir sauvage lourd to buy, you'll need 460 Cuir sauvage lourd or 2,300 Cuir sauvage or 11,500 Lanières de cuir sauvage.
If you've already collected all the recipes, then to craft just one of each item will cost you 288 Cuir sauvage lourd or 1,440 Cuir sauvage or 7,200 Lanières de cuir sauvage.
