If you can handle em, the Desert Rumbler's(57) in the very far corner of NW Silithus(behind the Dust Stormers) drop them fairly often, gettin 3 or 4 an hour up here. Approx coords are 26, 15.

I got 2 of these in 5 minutes by killing Greater Rock Elementals in the Badlands, might be a good spot :D (16.87)

Ridiculously hard item to farm. During farming, I've found that if I get one an hour, I'm lucky. You have a better chance of picking them up in raid loot. I was very angry when I'd farmed only 3 in 4 hours (yeah, I had a saturday to kill), and then ran one instance in maraudon and looted 8 of them.

Like mentioned above, seems like the best place to farm these is off the Elementals in the North Western corner in Silithus (where you summon the boss for Thunderfury Quest) - if your high enough level of course.

I spent one hour up there and got:

Elemental Earth x4
Essence of Earth x 12 (I swear they upped the drop rate on this stuff since TBC)
Core of Elements x17
Core of Earth x4
Deeprock Salt x10
and
Tons of stones

Greater Rock Elemental Results: One hour 13 minutes of farming.

6 elemental earth
2 core of earth
15 deeprock salt
39 Solid Stones

2 Green drops as well.

All in all, low drop rate. Thankfully I'm on a PVP server so after clearing the mobs i had horde to harass until they respawned. Gonna try Desert Ragers now.

Unless im extremely lucky, i picked up 2 of these for my elemental leatherworking quest in about 5 minutes, so maybe the drop rate is better?? O yea, i farmed em from the desert ragers in Silithus

Forget farming these in Silithid if you don't want to be killing dozens the elementals and not earning XP. Fastest way as stated above is to use your Septer of Celebras inside Maraudon and farm them from Theradrim shardling.
Easily solo'able at lvl 50+

For what its worth, the level 56 Rumblers are dropping them at a much higher rate (15%) than the 57s (5%) or the 58s (1%!)

I been trying to farm Avalanchion and his Thundering Invaders, but to my dismay, every time I visit Azshara to farm, Avalancion's already been slain, and I get to clean up 12-15 Thundering Invaders that were left behind. I've killed 27 in this fashion over several trips and only gotten 1 Core of Earth.

Then, following the advice in the above posts, I tried the Desert Rumblers in the Crystal Vale of Silithus, and found one on my third try, along with a BS plan and an Enchanting formula. I think I'm sticking here for my farming needs...

mara might be good... but think about this, there is a set amount of those rock guys in mara, and they take for ever to respawn. so you go in, spend 5-10 min maybe killing them, get lets say 2, then you have to run all the way out, reset the place, port back in to do it again... so in total your spending 30-45 min each run (depending on how fast you can run, and kill the mobs), getting 0-3 of these things... where as going to silithis, spending 30-45 min you will get 0-4, or more if your lucky... and you can keep farming pretty much non-stop, with out reseting anything, or porting anywhere and waiting for load times, or running out of some place to reset the area to get new targets.

For anyone farming Core of Earth I've figured out a way to get a steady income of them.

The boss in Maraudon called Landslide spawns (lootable) adds periodically during the encounter.

1. Tank Landslide
2. Kill adds
3. Loot adds
4. Profit!

And when on low hp/mana, just reset the encounter!

The Crystal Vale in Silithus is definitely the place to go if you need Core of Earth (Dust Rumblers). Here is what I racked up in 1 hour:

Core of Elements x 100
Deeprock Salt x 29
Essence of Earth x 39
Core of Earth x 10
Solid Stone x 40+ (I say + because I ran out of bag space)
Elemental Air x 6

I also farmed the Stormers waiting on the Rumblers to respawn (which didn't take long):

Essence of Air x 19
Breath of Wind x 6

About 1 1/2 hour farming in Silithus gave me 15 Core of Earth and 12 Breath of Wind (needed for balcksmithing)

Just found my second one. :D :D :D :D so about 2 in about 2-2 and half hours is the droprate. THis was in felwood :D killing the sentries and bodygaurds.... finally i can go to bed :D:D :D :D :D :D

Mara is kind of annoying for people without that scepter staff. I think its better in Burning steppes, as long as you know where to look. For now, Burning steppes give me about 0-2 per half an hour. Obsidian Elementals drops them in Burning Steppes (if you're having trouble finding them, their around the dark lava pool/rivers) but if you're a caster, it has spell reflect. If you don't want to kill yourself, I suggest Silithus... or just get a death knight once you reach 55. Silithus is kinda unstable but the small distance between these rumblers make it so easy to grind. I took a few elemental earths in one go but couldn't find the core. Logged out, then logged back in 10 mins later and the first rumbler I killed yielded the core (weird how things work..) Overall, I think silithus and Burning steppes are the best ones for farming core of earth (and Element of earth)

The "rumbler" mobs in southern Silithus DO indeed have a decent, or at least do-able, drop rate for the Core of Earth but the respawn time is almost unbelievable...it's been 25 minutes since I've cleared them out and I haven't seen one come back yet. And, to anyone like me who's thinking it: there's no other players around to compete with me...it's messed up.

Patch 4.3. I just got 2 of these from 15 or so Rock Elementals in the Badlands. Looking for Deeprock Salt, actually, but didn't get any of that.

Molten Core have a very good drop rate.

Only problem is you need a lvl 85.

For some strange reason my backpack's search filter says that this item has something to do with Enchanting. However this doesn't seem to be an enchanting reagent according to WoWhead. Unless the database isn't fully completed?
