I love Ozzy so much. The Crazy Train parts were the best, I love that song."I've been the @#$%ing prince of darkness since 1979!"
I absolutely love the Ozzy one.
A great marketing campaign, great commercials and a great game. :)
Great ads.I wonder why they didn't use the Wrath of the Lich King box art at the end though -- that would probably have been more effective at dragging new/ex-players back in.Currently the ads could be misinterpreted as just ads for classic World of Warcraft, as opposed to ads for the awesome, new expansion.Yep, I complain about the tiniest details.
Well, it's an ad about the game, not the expansion after all...so it kind of makes sense I guess.
I like the ads too, yet I have no illusions that the celebrities shown in them have probably never played WoW before. Just another advertising gig in a long list of advertising gigs.Smart marketing move however, one which seems to be paying off.
The ozzy one was perfect!
"SHAROOOOOOOON!" The Ozzy one is just epic.
Somehow I just knew Ozzy would be an undead warlock when I saw they'd made a commercial with him in it, haha.I also chuckled when I heard Van Zandt complaining about getting 'pulled back in', like Blizzard's parodying WoW's supposedly addictive qualities. Those who've actually been hooked on it can probably hold themselves from laughing though... :PAs for myself? Well, my warlock's only 72 so far, more than a full week after Wrath's launch... I figure I'm not too badly addicted. :)
"THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE HIGHLANDER."
*facepalm* He's parodying getting pulled back in by the mafia, not the addictive qualities. I think everyone knows that WoW sucks you in every time you try to get back out.
Ozzy one is just great!Imho, the Lich King should shout "There can be only one Prince of Darkness!" (As Illidan shouts "You are not prepared!") when he starts the fight.(And if he would shout "SHAAAAAAAAAAAARON" when he is killed, I'd ROFL so hard!)
I love the Ozzy one, but the Van Zandt one was kind of lame. Too short of a part. They could have gotten anyone off the street to the do that.
You hit the nail right on the head here. I'm 35 and a telecommunications technician I work with computer nerds every day but only a few of them admit they are gamers and none of my co-workers admit a WoW addiction. We are the Gollums of the gaming world, hidden away in the dark depths begging for our "precious" servers to come back up, we're looked down upon and mocked, but we're the base of it all.Console gamers can claim they're casual gamers, FPS'ers can claim it's about the blood and guts, sadly we have to openly admit we're into playing dress-up and make believe in a video game (I know it's not really that base it's called humor). These commercials make us feel like we fit in, even if it's just a little and in a humorous way. Look at the newest set of DS commercials celebrities playing video games like normal people (read: game geeks) would on a break from work.We all still secretly desire to be a part of the in crowd, but in reality our souls are stained so deeply with nerd-dom we will never be free of our shackles. Deny it as you will but I say "Let your Geek Flag Fly", you'll find there are a lot more of us hidden away then there are of the non-geeks.PS- Edits were for clarity and missed words.
