Le boss n'apparaît que quand les 6 miniboss ont été vaincus dans chacune des salles du bureau du professeur. Tous les monstres de ces salles doivent également être tués.

Pour tuer les PNJ qui se transforment en Ombres noires avec un guerrier ou un voleur, pensez à les étourdir avant qu'ils ne se transforment (à 40% environ) et finissez-les rapidement pendant qu'ils sont étourdis.

The only thing to watch out for when taking on Gandling is his banishment ability. He will occasionally banish a random party member to one of the six surrounding rooms. That player ends up locked in the room with three non-elite skeletons. All the player has to do is kill off the skeletons and run back, but it's disorienting.

Make sure you wait for everyone to return before looting.

Must kill all 6 mini boss's in the Headmasters Study befor he will appeare in the middle on the bottem floor.

I suggest clearing out the 3 boss's downstairs and then moving to the up stairs this will leave you with room to prepare when you down the last mini boss.

Hes not mutch of a challenge with the right group he can easily be downed in a minuet or two.

If you have a hunter, have him/her ready to kite gandling if need be. Due to the layout of the room it is very simple.

Step 1: Hunter is on the upper level while the rest of the group is fighting below. really, any caster can be along this top ring.

Step 2: Hunter pulls agro and begins to run to the spot opposite the stairs.

Step 3: the hunter jumps down. as gandling reaches him/her. Gandling will be forced to run around to get to you. Scattershot to get passed him, rinse and repeat. Once is usually enough time for a MT to regain agro because is path is easily predictable.

Side note. Seems you have to kill all the mobs for him to spawn. I just thought it was bosses, but me and another rogue had to kill everything. Which wasn't easy since those one things turn into black ghosts and are immune to physical attacks. If 2 rogues go, be sure to have 5 deadly on them and evenom to finish them off.

A warning to level 70 characters who want to solo him for loot:

Don't put DoTs or bleeds on him when he's low on health. If he teleports you away then dies because of them, he may be too far and you won't get credit for the kill... meaning no loot, even though you're the only one in the instance.

You actualy have to kill all the mobs inside the rooms with minibosses. This may not get noticed if your doing it with a grp at lvl 60 or so cos you'll kill the mobs anyway but it took me a while to figure out what's wrong when i was doing it for fun with my druid. Therfor i think this is imposible to be done with a rogue since some mobs become shades and get immune to melee damage.

This guy is really unpredictable with his portals. I've had times where I fight him and I only get like 2 hits on him before he teleports me somewhere, and I've also had a few fights where he doesn't teleport me at all.

Solo'd as a lvl 70 Restoration Shaman. Fairly easy considering a majority of his arcane missles were resisted. Gandling repeatedly cast Shadow Portal on my Searing Totem.

Farming the ace of portals to finish off my deck and there I found a way to get out of his banishment spell. (or at least one of them)

if you are a sub spec rogue you can shadowstep to him as he casts his Shadow Portal spell. its tricky but it can be done. If you use shadowstep right before he finishes casting his spell your game will freeze for about half a sec but then you will find yourself in the same room as Gandling again.

Also, i found out that if you do not clear all the rooms before fighting him he will cast Shadow Portal more often, almost nonstop infact. Took me about 6min to kill him because he kept porting me around.

However, because he will teleport even solo adventurers to those halls during the fight, it is wise to clear all of them.

Believe it or not, but this guy was probably one of the easiest bosses to solo in Scholomance. (As a 70 fire mage)

All I had to do is get on top of the stairs and shoot him from the ridge. He does Arcane Missles but as a level 70, you should have no problem resisting more than half of them.

If however, he runs up the stairs and smacks you, you can always jump off of the ridge to gain some DPS time. He didn't do this to me, maybe because I killed him really really fast. Probably the same reason why he didn't use 'Shadow Portal' on me either.

Shamans can have their totems take the shadow portal hit for you. While its risky it can save your raid alot of time.

$%^&ing around after gettin pally mount quest done, i decieded to kill the bosses of scholo. to my suprise about how this guy fights i found him to do oddly nothing at all. he cast arcane missles the whole fight but put a -50 str debuff on my right before he died.. no adds, just stood and took it for about a min. might be because im solo, or he was changed. just saying, hes a easy ass boss..

As a subtlety rogue killing the shades was some kind of luck. Build up 5 combo points and then use evis when mob is around 3.5k hp left.. And hope for a evis crit and your target will be dead before it becomes immune to physical dmg.
Also be sure to have vanish up, since you properly wont get 5 combo points on another mob before it changes form if you haven't used premeditation before you attack it.

It looked like the shades aren't immune to physical dmg while they change form, but since that only takes around 0.5 sec for them to do, that doesn't give you much time to do more dmg than they have hp left :) Stunlocking them doesn't help, they still change form while stunned.

Gandling was pretty easy to kill, but he still had like 50k hp. He teleported me 6 times during the fight, didn't watch how long I used on him. 4 times in a row he teleported me to another room right after I'd killed those 3 nonelites from the last teleporting without getting a chance to hit him.. and then he didn't teleport anymore for 80% of his hp. He did use his staves to do 162 physical dmg a few times, but else he only used arcane missiles which I resisted around 95% of the time.

I soloed this on my 70 druid for the achievement. You have to slay the 6 bosses and all mobs on the rooms surrounding the middle for him to spawn. Lost maybe 5% hp whole fight.

Soloing this guy can be somewhat a fun yet tedious experiance. when he warped me he would run in as I would kill the mobs in the room and then warp me into another room. after the 3rd room he stopped warping and I managed to kill him.

Beyond the initial hit, I never get to fight this guy. I send my pet in to fight him and he teleports me everytime I walk into the main hall. It's no big deal though, at level 70 the pet never goes below 90% health, and can kill him quite easily.

Just something to ponder if you're a hunter soloing Scholomance.

Solo'd as a lvl 80 Death Knight and every time he tried to port me away it would fail. The vast majority of his spells missed me as well. Kind of strange since I was standing right in front of him. So essentially I just stood in the middle, tank n' spank'd him down.

just an fyi for anyone fighting him. i tried fighting him without clearing the rooms and got a large number of adds on me while fighting him. i managed to kill him but not the adds around me before dying and it essentially locked his body with the loot into that room and i was unable to go loot after coming back in because the door remained closed since i hadnt killed the 2-3 ads that spawn when you get ported.

All you need to know about doing Gandling runs:
In order to get to him, you have to kill Rattlegore to get the Viewing Room Key. Then, proceed to the Headmaster's Study. There are six rooms (three off the top, three off the bottom) that you need to go into to get Gandling to spawn. In order for him to spawn, you must kill the six minibosses (none of which have anything too interesting about them) and the trash in The Coven.
The Coven is the first on your right, where the infamous Scholomance Occultists are. You'll fight about 4-5 of them, and, when they get to about 2000 hp (sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less) they will turn into wraiths that are immune to physical damage. This is the part that screws a lot of people up, because, as a rogue or warrior, nothing you can do will damage them. So, as a rogue, deadly poison both your weapons, open with CS then shiv until they turn, hit them with envenom after they turn and, provided your envenom does enough damage, you will kill them. Make sure to note that you cannot proc more poison once they turn, so build up your stack beforehand.
The other thing to watch out for are the Unstable Corpses in Lorekeeper Polkelt's room, which explode upon death for - apparently unresistable - 750 nature damage. AOE them in packs - not all at once - and keep your health up.
Other than those two rooms, the area is a breeze to solo at 80, and no one should have too much trouble.

Just a note for any 80's doing scholo, clearing all the minibosses isn't enough - I had to go back to the rooms and clear the mobs I ran past also in order to get him to spawn. After I'd cleared the top 3 rooms he spawned, so I didn't need to head into the bottom ones. I think the cultist room with all the humanoids is what was preventing him from appearing, so try this before you assume it's bugged.

Level 80 ilvl 213/226 mut rogue. here's my 'as fast as possible' method as i've been farming Shadowcraft Cap. It takes 12 minutes times however many times you have the patience for. I usually do 4-5.

- Run in, stealth for about half a second as you go inbetween the skelly guards. unstealth opening door (keep moving) and run down the left side hugging right..

- Keep moving -- as you enter the chamber of summoning right as you open door distract skelly pat to your right, stealth about half a second past him and unstealth in the middle of the room and keep running.

-- Run about halfway into the next room before mobs get tight.. stealth right behind the pat and sprint around obstacles and through the doorway to the whelps room.. hug the left side of the doorway and drop immediately down into rattlegore's room in the left-most hole nearest the door.. sprint across the middle of the bones pile, getting aggro on Rattlegore with a garrote->snd and pop evasion. get to the wall by the 'exit' and spam mut->envenom to burn him fast and loot key. You'll want to vanish here because likely 2-3 skelly consrtucts aggroed in the process. ;)

-- Run up the stairs, hug the wall to the right. you only need to stealth about half a second right near the end as you enter the door again. keep it quick! run down the stairs to the right and run around the spider pats.. stealth about a half a second to the ledge to the right of the viewing room door and start opening the door (should be about the max distance you can target the door from) - make sure the spider pats are going away and not toward you while opening, or you will probably pull half of the room.

-- Stealth briefly on your way in and pop out. run out the immediate left door and down stairs to the study.

-- Minibosses time, this is very important to keep it quick:

1. Immediate left to loremaster polkeit -- run around the room and gather all the mobs up other than the boss. they're kind of slow so you can get some distance from them while running away. as you have the whole bunch following you and have some distance on them, FoK spam. because you got some distance, you should only take 4-5 (about 20%) of the -750 ticks, as the FoK hit them in its outer radius mainly. i usually do this kiting around the stairs area. when only the reanimated corpses are up, go down and burn boss.. FOK spam the reanimated ones on the way out. If you don't do this method and just stand there you will likely die or be at about 1k hp, which is bad.

2. Clockwise into the butcher's room chain pull them in a circular fashion, dont stand in crap. this is when you will want to bandage. depending on your speed, evasion may be up now. if so pop it as he can hit hard. burn boss.

3. Clockwise into the coven - make sure DP is on both daggers. sap 1 occultist in the right pack. let energy cap. shiv spam 3 cp and try to get an evis in. if you get the evis in they should be dead, if not you'll have 4-5 DP stacks and the shade will die from the ticks. kill normal add then make sure you start at energy cap on the other occultist. rinse and repeat the other mobs. I disagree with the previously posted method using envenom. if for some reason you dont kill the mob you'll have to kite them around the study until vanish is up. waste of time! use a CB to 1 shot an occultist with an ambush in here. boss is cake, and keep going..

4. Jump down and back to ravenian.. chain pull adds. evasion on boss if its up now instead of on butcher. nothing interesting here.

5. Run across to the skelly mages + lady ilucia - chain pull, you'll resist anything they do, nuke their barely-there armor, same with boss.

6. Clockwise into lord alexei's room - chain pull two adds. stealth and pop cloak of shadows as you sprint in and get behind alexei (similar to doing baron mount runs at 70). roll face (evasion if you used it on the butcher) and take care of adds while running up. save CB. bandage if you are below 5k health or so. I prefer bandaging to eating, it just feels faster to me.

Gandling pops- stack hfb, energy cap, garrote, mut, 4pt rupture. get all your damage ticking fast. Blow everything. 80% of the time he will die before being able to port you. if you get ported, FoK your way back to the door, he'll be coming for you anyway. in all likelihood he'll die from bleeds/poisons while you're in the other room.

Loot a Devout Crown for the 100th time and reset and try again! It SHOULD take you 12-14 minutes between restarts. You will discover lots of tricks to keeping it fast. Real pros can try jumping off the stairway while FoKing in Polkeit's room which often pulls ilucia's room. they'll greet you as you're finishing polkeit. makes the run go another minute quicker! (might need to pot though).

Hope this has been helpful. Feel free to follow up with any time savers you know of.

Note: Obviously I'm not saying you need to avoid mobs. You could FoK every trash pull we skipped if you want, but it'll take an extra 15 minutes or so and double the run time. Plus more food/bandages/etc.

Soloed this today but could finish. The occultist upstairs from where he's due to appear turned in the Shadow phantom thingies and were immune to my damge. Any tips guys on how I can get round this little problem?

I've soloed entire scholomance as a warrior, the only problem I got caught up in doing this is the "Scholomance Occultists" as they become immune to physical damage as they are close to die (they turn to shades).
But as the awsome nightelf arms warrior I am, I just shadowmelded and made em go back to human/gnome form and then 3-4 hit kill them.

all other warriors who fail to kill em before they turn to shades, have fun running out of the instance, as you have to kill em to spawn gandling.

Darkmaster Gangling is Rather easy for a Rogue to solo....just remember to bring (mind numbing poison and deadly or instant). Did it...and the adds died very easy in the Coven. Start with stunning one of the them, if you have to because there are three you may have to vanish. The mind numbing poison slows down thier transformation and you shiv them as much as you can...I stacked them so good they died withing seconds. Continue this with each group.

Do the same for Darkmaster Gangling and he will die fast. LOL he only teleported me once before succombing to my blade.

For a rouge have deadly poison on your off hand and use shiv against the occouls things. Then Envenom when they transform.

Hunters can use Arcane Shot and their Immolation/Explosive traps on the Dark Shades. A Dragonhawk or Wind Serpent's breath attack may do the job, although I can't test that.

There seems to be some confusion as to what you need to summon this guy.

You DO need to clear all six rooms before he will spawn. Killing the bosses and leaving mobs will not allow him to spawn.

Also, if there are any engineers out there, the Dark Shades in The Coven are NOT immune to the damage from Saronite (and presumably other) bombs. Couldn't DPS them down fast enough on my prot warrior, but I could get them low enough that one or two bombs finished them off easy peasy.

If you are a hunter soloing him you can defeat him without him banishing you anywhere i suggest using rapid shot and volley along with all ranged shooting one right after the other As a lvl 80 i just downed him in a minute doing this without kiting not to mention you should have ur pet on him I Actually killed all bosses except kirtonus, marduk, and vectus

As a protection paladin I stood on the top of the stairs and pulled him into the hall leading to the viewing room. I fought him there and he didn't use his teleport at all. Speed and fun :)

Mages: Use your mirror images if you're soloing this fight. He will use his teleportation on your mirror image (he shouldn't get more than one off). Makes this fight much less annoying.

I can absolutely confirm easily soloable as 80 rogue. Though I do have epic weapons, you can use a lower dps weapon so you can get more deadly poison stacks on the human mob before it transforms into the shade. Didn't even have to use envenow....had 5 stacks on the mob before it transformed at about 15% health. 3 ticks and it was dead. Took me a couple of vanish CD's to figure it out. Can also confirm the shades are immune to all physical damage.

You don't need to kill EVERY add to get him to spawn.
I just did it, leaving the skeletons in one room and some of the cultists in The Coven, he didn't spawn. I went up to The Coven and he spawned, and the skellies were still there.
So, to everyone saying you need to kill everything, it's wrong advice.

For Warlocks farming him for Dreadmist Mask, here's a little guide to get him as quickly as possible:

1. Get a Demonology spec. It makes soloing any instance so much easier. I remember having those "oh @#$%" situations with my Destruction spec in which my pet made a few unlucky pulls and I found myself unable to handle the horde of mobs. With Demonology it's just Metamorphosis+Immolation Aura to clear just about any room within seconds. Also the Fel Guard is the best way for Warlocks to kill the magic immune mobs quickly.

2. Enter the instance, dismiss your pet if you have it out and jump down the bridge immediately to your right. After you've jumped, hug the wall and go up the stairs, then left to the room with the hatchlings.

3. Set your Demonic Circle at one of the holes and jump down. Kill Rattlegore and anything you might have aggroed with him, take his key and teleport back up.

(3.5. If you also need the Dreadmist Mantle now would be a good time to go through the hidden door and kill Jandice.)

4. Go back the way you came to the room in which you landed after jumping off the bridge. You should now summon your Fel Guard (before this point he would've been more of a nuisance, pulling additional mobs) as you'll likely have to kill at least one of the packs of mobs in this room with magic immune mobs. Make your way through the room either hugging the wall or killing the pack right in front of the door, unlock the door.

5. Move on to the next room, turn left immediately, ignore any students (Immolation Aura won't be enough to clear that room at once, trust me) and go down the stairs.

6. The rest is a no-brainer, clear all of the six rooms and then Gandling himself.

You might want to make sure everyone knows Gandling will be spawning when you kill the last miniboss. After a frantic battle with Alexei, half of my party was standing in the center room with Gandling while we were all at low health and mana. (Not the most experienced group I've had.) Getting out of the cells is not too hard, my resto druid got out in time to heal up the tank during one run, but I was expecting the port and knew how to get out already.

Killing the shades as a Feral Cat Druid (Without any gear to really help spells all that much, level 60):

Thorns. Is a GODSEND. DPS them down until they transform into the shade, pop thorns, and stay in melee range, just worry about keeping yourself alive while Thorns does your work for you. Ideally, you can kill one before he transforms, but in case you don't, either way, this might be helpful to put out here.

Ok, so as a level 85 mage this was easy. After you kill all 6 minibosses AND THE MOBS IN EACH ROOM WITH THE MINIBOSSES he will come out into the middle room. I was stuck for a while b/c i didn't know you had to kill the trash in the rooms. xP

OK, so a lot of "go this way...go that way". Go to the room where Gandling appears at the bottom of the stairs, he will be standing in the center of the rug. There is 6 rooms,3 on top, 3 on bottom.Kill EVERYTHING on the TOP level.The LOWER level just kill the bosses......POOF there he is.

I was able to solo him as a lvl 48 protection paladin... he and the minibosses barely scratched my shield, this seems a bit of ridiculous to me as the instance is capped at my same level... should be a lot harder to manage solo (no heirlooms equipped, i was decked in full sholomance gear)

So after some further research, it does not appear that you need to kill everything on the upper level, just the bosses and the humans in the Dark Coven.

In the revamped Scholomance the day after 5.0.4 hit, everyone but the tank (a Paladn) in a PUG was locked out of the fight when the tank charged on ahead.

The tank proceeded to solo Gandling in normal quest greens and blues. No heirlooms and all level appropriate gear.

Impressive.

You have to clear all 6 rooms near him to make him appear. This include most of elite trash in the rooms and 6 mini-bosses: Docteur Theolen Krastinov, Seigneur Alexei Barov, Instructrice Malicia, Dame Illucia Barov, Le Voracien, Gardien du savoir Polkelt.
To be able to reach his rooms you also have to kill Cliquettripes (under the room with little dragons) and loot Clé de la Chambre des visions.

Weirdly, Darkmaster Gandling is using his MoP-era model for the recreated "Legacy of Scholomance" instead of the original version that existed prior to patch 5.0.4.

Getting Silent Fang can easily become a schlep; This sword may of been ≈14% drop chance back in the day (according to data here), but it took me at least twenty-eight clears to finally get this to drop since the reintroduction of the old school old school. I know unlucky RNG, but 28+ roll attempts was suspicious. If you're determined, keep at it -- it does still drop as of the date of this post.

Also, in the many multiple repeat drops of the other items in Darklord Gandling's loot table, I got one non-listed Headmaster's Charge staff the run just before Silent Fang dropping, which I, of course, took as a good sign that Silent Fang was on its way!
