So I was in Hellfire Blood Furnace the other day. Had a really bad run, but before you think this is one of those ranting threads... I was more amazed than mad. See, what amazed me is really how little the other players knew... this level 62 Rogue asked me, "Does Ambush pull you out of stealth?" ...... I was a level 61 Rogue, and he seemed to be asking me advice on how to play a Rogue better.
Now, I'm not one to make fun of people or call them stupid, so I tried to help him. I answered his questions patiently to the best of my abilities. But after he asked me, "Does Sap do damage?" I did lose my cool a bit. So out of some frustration and some curiosity, I asked back, "You don't know the Rogue class very well, do you?" ... I had been surprised he was level 62, made it to Outlands, without understanding basic Rogue mechanics. (He even had 0 HK's) He hesitated a moment and then said, "Sorry, but I've only been playing for about two weeks. I can learn if you tell me." I felt bad I had come across somewhat mean, although I had been patient before, so I kept answering his other questions until the end of the run.
Now, what bothers me most about this, is not something that I don't know, but rather something I know the answer to already. 'How did you level to 62 in two weeks?' is the question that I DIDN'T ask. Why? Because I know that Blizzard has made leveling incredibly easy now, trying to make it easier for people to get to 70, and then 80. Easier quests and drop-rates, easier mobs, Recruit-a-friend....
Leveling is made easier, that's great. But the problem is, where does the real learning curve take place? How and when do people learn to play their class? Is Hellfire Ramparts the new Ragefire Chasm, the new Deadmines? Is Hellfire Blood Furnace the new Wailing Caverns, the new Shadowfang Keep, the new Stockades?
Has anyone else experienced what I like to call the "High-Level Newb Phenomenon"? Where players simply don't have the experience to know some things, because of WotLK, that you would have expected, given their level or place in Azeroth, that they should have known if they had been there in TBC? A learning curve that's taking place much later in levels than it ever has previously?

That is terrible. Sounds like the rogue bought or was given the account/character.
Otherwise I don't see how you can't know the basics of your class...

No, sounds like he RaF'ed and got his rogue granted levels from 1-60.

That's actually pretty rare. This person most of either
A) Come into no contact with ANYONE while leveling through Azeroth, and just never learned, (remember how bad you are when you first start an mmo?), never got a group for anything, (probably didn't know how) and played at rare hours, (early morning, late night) AND while assuming all the happened, he just spammed his beginning level abilities (SS, evis), not knowing how to put the newer ones on his action bar.
or, there's the more plausible:
B) E-bay buyer.

So you all think maybe I'm too quick to assume this is happening because of WOTLK? That maybe this one case is just from an account buyer, that it's not happening on some massive level across the game? But do you think instances like mine are more likely to occur now?

^^ It is possible, and I think with easy leveling with WOTLK that a scenario like this could have very well happened.

Mmmm.... it IS possible, but pretty unlikely. And even so, I don't think the leveling process would have had anything to do with it. He still would have eventually made it to Outlands, come across somebody, and finally asked for help. WotLK just made it sooner rather than later =P
So if anything, WotLK
helped
this poor fellow.

why would someone buy an account without even a max level? :P
but yeah, i remember trodding my way through leveling on my warrior, not knowing what i was doing, having the wrong spec, using the wrong skills, having the wrong stat priority, ect.
i have of course learned, but much of that came from the fact that i just leveled alone, didnt do many instances, and well, just didnt "learn the game" until i was close to the level cap at that time....
i have ofc since learned to play the game ;) but im careful to judge because i look back to the way i was...

I think it is possible that he didnt learn his class from 1-60 as others said because of RaF and the speed, also the rogue class has a lot of little tricks and things that most times you dont even have to touch (real rogues dont feint) so I suppose if he soloed most of the time of had a friend he never needed to sap anything ever.
By the way it is easy to see that he could get to 60 in 2 weeks because the first time I went through azeroth it was exciting and I loved it (the 2nd and 3rd time not so much)

Meh, I've leveled my Warlock to 71 (ya me!) in 9 days of playtime (if I didn't have a 9-5 it could have been a lot faster, so two weeks is very plausible) and I've never had anyone complain about my play. Sure I've caused one or two wipes from overpulling or being out of position, but who hasn't? Not a big deal.
But obviously I'm here, I'm reading and learning, and I'm trying to get the best gear I can on my way to 80.
My point is not everyone who is just picking up the game is completely worthless. If someone is asking questions (even if they seem simple to you) then help them out. Its better they ask and learn rather then do stupid stuff and tell you to !@#$ off when you do try and help them out.

P.S. 62 isnt high level
That's all there is to it. 62, or 60, used to be high level, but it isn't anymore. The expectations are lower for the same level now.
