For some easy leveling of mining in the Outlands, there are several nodes of Fel Iron Ore behind the Dark Portal to the Northeast, East and Southeast. As there are no mobs back there one can mount up and run around for a few quick skillups.

As of 2.1 patch - I can no longer find Ore behind/around the portal.

maxed out my mining in Hellfire Peninsula tonight...had to get the ore to level my blacksmithing from 300-325 so i just farmed it all...so yea...it turned green at around 360 i would say and stayed green all the way to 375..

good luck though...they are much harder to find and u have to kill an easy mob or two for the vein..

i think the most recent patch they nerfed the spawn rate in zangar as well, been having trouble getting any around there.

thats my usual farming area, at 375, easiest to navigate and quickest to get aroun, although apparently not anymore

I have mined the area for a while now and I created a map of the best route in my opinion.

Ive gotten the most felirons from this route then other routes I have tried.

I get about 2 stacks and a half from every lap on this map, it might be server dependent because there isnt much business here but we'll see.

Do not prospect this. I prospected 8 stacks and got 1 blue gem. Smelt it into bars and/or refine into felsteel for profit.

I find that everyone forgets about the stairs around the dark portal, i start from honor hold (horde can take a similar route just dont go to near of course) and go around the pink route i have shown on the picture.

Also you can go much further left i just use this because it is quick and generally effective, if you do go left make sure you stick to fissures or mountain edges.

i get stacks of these from fishing around zangarmarsh, pools of floating debris contain crates of fel iron ore, netherweave cloth, and leather scraps

Remember that, for Blacksmithers/Engineers/Jewlcrafters buying ore on the auction house, it takes TWO ores to make ONE bar. Make sure the ore you are buying is at least half the price of the bars on the AH (if you do plan using them for your profession), or you're getting ripped-off. Generally you wont find them at half price becuase they can be prospected, but sometimes you can find cheap ore.

This item is also dropped by the Outraged Raven's Wood Sapling ( http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=21040#herbalism ) but you don´t have to skin them with herbalism you have to use AOE spells next to it , kill it and then loot it . Actually when you loot it , it drop everything you get skinnig it ( with an extra fel iron ore ).

When you are boosting your BS (like me), you need about 310 ores of feliron - depends on guide you are following.

300 may feel like much, but it comes up pretty fast... I spent like 20mins on farming and already had 30+ of BARS (60+ ores) in my bag.

The vendor-prospect price of Fel Iron Ore is about 10.8s/ea. Since they vendor for 10s, it's just barely worth it, unless my math is wrong, in which case it might not be worth it. Sell these on the AH and never prospect them, they're more valuable as bars.

Math:
100% chance of a "green drop", giving, on average, 1.5 gems. 37.5s off green gems.
Assuming a 6*1.1% or 6.6% chance of a "blue drop", giving one gem. 16.5s off blue gems.

Total of 54s per set of 5, or 10.8s per item.

If you are a jc, prospect adamantine rather than fel iron cause it has a greater chance to drop rare gems.

I don't know if it was changed from BC to Wrath, but while mining Fel Iron nodes... my mining turned to green for this at 350, not 360 as previously mentioned.

I noticed that the respawn time for the Fel Iron nodes in Hellfire is about 30 minutes, but they don't necessarily respawn in exactly the same place. Timed and checked several nodes and the respawns were never exactly where they had been previously, but they generally stuck to the 30 minute respawn time though a few didn't respawn at all as far as I could tell. Some new ones that didn't appear to be respawns appeared during this time.

In all I was able to continuously mine Hellfire for Fel Iron as long as I kept track of the node locations and respawn time for each node.

Blegh absolute pain to mine, in my opinion :( Levelling Blacksmithing, and when I mine around the edges of Hellfire , I get barely none :/

Anyways, Hellfire is the best place to farm this.

Are you sure Hellfire is the best farming zone for it?

I barley got any of and it is an extreme pain to farm it for it either BS or Jewelcrafting or Engineering for that matter.

I've run 3 full circles around and barely get ONE full stack of it. Unless there was someone else farming it. Haven't checked.

If anybody want to farm for Fel Iron Ore for any crafting profession go in Zangarmarsh. Far better yield with including Adamantium ore which you WILL NEED it anyway for any crafting profession.

Unless of course you are low on Minning skill any you need to raise that first to at minimum of 325.

Okay so one trip around Zangarmarsh (just around the edges and up into Ango'rosh Stronghold) just now yielded:

9 Fel Iron nodes - 31 ore
5 Adamantite nodes - 15 ore
including 2 eternium ore, 8 motes of fire and 11 motes of earth.

Thats a tonne better than in Hellfire where I only found 6 or 7 nodes of Fel Iron.
Certainly staying here to mine that for Blacksmithing!

I've been farming Fel Iron Ore for my warriors Blacksmithing and Engineering and I still find that Hellfire Peninsula is better than Zangarmarsh. I've only spent max time a couple of hours there (over a 2 day span) and I have netted more than 400 ore. Sure, its boring and HP is huge, but definitely do not stick just to the outer rim of the zone. There are a lot of nodes sprinkled throughout the center. Even as painful as it is, it's still better than the 150g per stack that Fel Iron Ore is going for on my server.

If you have little or no competition, Hellfire Peninsula is definitely the place to farm this. That being said, in my experience, Hellfire Peninsula is often filled with highly competitive miners with maxed flying skill, making it a real nightmare. I tend to get more consistent results mining in places like Zangarmarsh, where, although there aren't nearly as many nodes, the farming route is simple and there usually isn't too much competition.

Seeing how expensive it was on the AH, I mined up 150 Fel Iron ore to level blacksmithing... only to find that this is the first smelt that requires 2 ore per bar...

One lap around Hellfire Peninsula's edge has given me:

Fel Iron Ore x22 (11 bars)
Mote of Fire x6
Mote of Earth x4

This is by far the worst type of metal to mine. My farming has been time consuming and yielding little rewards.

ok this map WAS helpful and I mean no disrespect but basically you are just running the mountain ridge about 3/4 of the way up to avoid bad guys and to look down. I flew along higher than you can climb and yes found a good amount especially since its about 13 gold a bar on my server.

As an alternate to the map, thank you by the way, you can fly north over the Legion Front to the point just north of the pillars that are the entrance to The Path of Glory. If well above level, loop around and fly between Thrallmar and Thorne of Kil'Jaeden over Forge Camp Rage. I always find one or two nodes there. Usually right next to a Fel Cannon. Also a couple of nodes spawn of Void Ridge, east side of the mountains behind Zeth'Gor.

A full round of Hellfire, with the expert riding skill, took me about 35 mins and yielded

77 X fel iron ore
13 X mote of fire
10 X mote of earth
2 X eternium ore
1 X deep peridot
1 X golden draenite

That's without the guild buff for mats and without going inside any caves - where you're bound to find some more. On the other hand, it was Monday morning, which means there was no competition: I was practically alone. Still, it sounds OK, especially compared to the past. Alternative locations for fel iron would be Zanga (especially the caves to the south, next to the borders with Terrokar) and Nagrand - however, the ores found there are few compared to Hellfire.

as for findind feliron ore in the outlands hellfire is the best spot as i have seen on the map some one posted on here i have folowed this map 1 time around here is my out come 66 feliron ore, 2 eternium ore, 9 mote of fire and 10 mote of earth.my 2ed time around i found 60 feliron ore, 2 eternium ore, 7 mote of fire , 7 mote of earth, and 1 azure moonstone, as i can tell there kinda random where they respond but not to far from the spot they was before. if you fallow the route that was maped out you will find a great amount of ore. you may have to go off the maped out route a tad bit because there not always going to be in the same spot.

I have encountered a "ghost" Fel Iron Deposit flying over (36.2,2.9) Terokkar Forest. If I try to land and collect it, it vanishes. When I take off again it reappears. A Blizzard practical joke? I am on the Argent Dawn server if that matters.

I think most of these old low level uncut gems need a updated percentage of what drops. I've gotten the rare blue gems quite a few times while leveling up my jewelcrafting. I don't think it's a 3 % chance of getting it if i've gotten it quite a few times.

Minerai de gangrefer can be mined from Gisement de gangrefer which can be found in the areas of Outland.
Hellfire Peninsula is the most effective area to mine this, as it has the most veins.

After the Thorium drag in the Blasted Lands, you can begin farming Minerai de gangrefer at a mining skill of 275.
It will give your mining skill leveling till 400.

After this comes Minerai d'adamantite.

So I'd post an update for people who are farming Iron Ores for proffessions to let you know they are still there ;)
I'd submitted a printscreen including the number of ores etc. I farmed in 1 hour and the route.

Obtained 120 Adamantite ore and 80 fel iron within 45 minutes at negrand. Used the add on "carbonite". My toon has the skills from a max'd guild along with the highest flying. Kept a slight buzz on alcohol and smoked a tab bit of hookah to make the time go by =)

Since they've introduced Cross-Realm zones, HFP is heavily contested when it comes to finding Fel-Iron due to the high traffic of players (most of them DKs). As such, trying to level mining or simply farming in that zone will not always yield expected results, even worse during peak hours. While there are less ore deposit spawns in Zangarmarsh, because most people finish questing in HFP at 63-64 and skip directly to Terokkar or Nagrand, Zangarmarsh is pretty much empty most of the time so it's a good alternative when you can't find any nodes in HFP. The route is far less complicated too and you can also find a good deal of Adamantite.

This is the course I followed, it yielded me around 60 fel iron ore per "lap" in 15 minutes with a 150% mount and around 10 adamantite. Like I said, nothing incredible, but beats starving in HFP and it will definitely level you to 325 where you can start mining adamantite in Nagrand. Black lines follow my route and the green circles show caves that are worth visiting (especially the cave north-west of Ango'rosh).

15 minutes in HFP yielded about 70 ore for me, even knowing that other people were farming it too. I just used an optimized Routes path with Gathermate2 data imported. Flying at 310% speed.

If your leveling Blacksmithing don't forget to go see Aaron Hollman to pick up Plans : Rapière en adamantite, Plans : Fendoir en adamantite, Plans : Dague en adamantite, and Plans : Maillet en adamantite so you don't become completely homicidal farming Minerai de gangrefer.

In 7.0, now that cross realm no longer works the way it used to and you can't just hop to a low pop realm and get ore, I'm finding that on my high-pop realm, this ore is heavily farmed, with a terrible respawn rate, and really hard to find. The best place I have found is inside Steamvaults, there are 2 guaranteed nodes.

I was farming and at 315 skill the Fel Iron Deposits turned grey. Headed to Adamantite at 220 skill and was able to gather it.

For anyone farming in Hellfire, I recommend using Potion noire comme de l'encre. It reduces the eye strain from the harsh red dirt, and the neon green nodes stand out really well in the darkness.
