This is some of the strange PVE achievements, which have PVP written on them. Unfortunately - it is required for L’insulaire, so ....

The only experience I can share is:

1. On most runs - there is no PVP at all. The team which can mop up the place faster is the most likely winner.
2. Do not be afraid to queue with strange compositions and tactics. You will win something at the end. I won some by simply pulling everything and kiting, while my teammates mined every available node, while our enemy team quited after we got a 6000-1000 head start.
3. Remember - doing PVP island expeditions is actually a very good way to farm azerite for the weekly quest, pets for Mascottes à tout prix, mounts and conquest points (outside ranked play)

For PvP islands keep in mind that you don't necessarily need the traditional 3v3 PvP comps, and having a healer is far from required. In my experience, if you wanna win PvP islands, go with a triple DPS comp, or tank + two DPS. Most island enemies don't do enough damage to need a healer and having a tank instead of a third DPS will allow you to pull more stuff at the cost of losing damage.

As a BM hunter, the best games I had were with a rogue that could go out on his own and gather chests and get to the azerite extractor first, and a third dps that was staying with me. My core hound pet was able to easily tank thanks to Peau d’obsidienne, Soif du prédateur + Enchaînement bestial and Guérison du familier when there's a lot of damage on him.

But the real key to success for PvP islands, is to avoid PvPing. Killing the other team is mainly just a waste of time for both sides, while your main goal is to simply reach 18k azerite as fast as possible.

Just in case anyone came here looking for the answer to if you can solo queue/random queue for the PvP islands - no you can't sadly.
