It wasn't abolished until Patch 2.0.1, when all of the ranks were. Patch 1.12 added cross-realm PvP, it didn't change the ranks.

The only way to get this Achievement, is to have PvP'd a bit before Burning Crusade was released.

It seems faction change CAN get this achievement.Of course, you need to have the opposite faction title first

While I love these titles, there should be some kind of special reward for those who earned them in vanilla.

This achievement along with all other PvP title achievements are now back and fully obtainable since release of Cataclysm.

As a person who completed the GRIND to Grand Marshal (rank 14) i am pissed that others will now be able to attain that title. The gear is now out of date, and really was at the time as well. The above posts are absolutely correct, it was like a second job to get that accomplishment. Hours a day running BG after BG, everyone had a role, and knew exactly what it was. We would rarely loose, maybe once every few weeks. Most other teams would leave once they saw who they would be playing against. Although it was a LOT of work, the people i played with and learned from made it FUN, i would not do it again, but do enjoy the memories of completely owning the Horde, day after day!

As much as I like how they are bringing the old titles back into the game, this would change the way we think about players having this title.

Grand Marshal (Old) says: "I stayed up all night, skipping school/job, killing horde players non-stop, day after day, until my eyes bled. RESPECT MY AUTHORITY!"

Grand Marshal (New) says: "I joined a group of players, we did rated battlegrounds every now and then, and won them (no hastiness though, it's not like we're losing any rating for being inactive.)"

What the ^&*! did Blizzard think when they made this available for everyone? Did they even stop a minute to think of all the players that dedicated big parts of their lives to achieve this? I normally think that everything Blizzard does is great, but this is simply not thought through and down right retarded.

To all you complainers, Blizzard has been moving away from the super hardcore, and more towards the casual since Burning Crusade, reaching a pinnacle at WotLK. They added these back in, with the new Cataclysm recipie. The people that do it casually will have some success and probably make it to around 1500. I don't know about you, but I have yet to see anyone on my server with this title.

It will not be free candy, and it will still mean something, just not exactly what it did before.

something people forget, wow was built on hardcore raiders/pvpers. The original beta invites were given to top server guilds from EQ, a game tigole and kaglan once played and dominated (among others)

The history of this game, and the time put in by people spent earning titles such as "grand marshal" used to mean something to at least them. (and the lookers on who said "holy $%^&")

Thats being lost, forever. Sure its just a game, sure the casuals have their place, but without something to look at a bit in awe... what's left to look at?

I don't see if blizzard would bring titles back for RBG or arena's, why can't they just make up some new ones? i'm sure there's alot of titles you could come up with for the new. So ppl would always know on the title when the player was pvp succesfull, in world of warcraft or world of stuncraft...

blizz is trying to cater to everyone these days including the jelous people that go i want that title despite i didn't even know what WoW was when it was attinable. they should have re worked the titles earned so that the classic pvp sensations could keep there nolivity and the new ones would have there own new glory to stand in. i honestly think blizz should rethink some of the things there takeing out and putting back in take the pally and warlock mount quests for instance haveing a charger or dreadsteed used to mean you went to the ends of the earth to get it now it just a buyable spell at your trainer. yeah they were quest lines from hell to complete but i guess the fail pallys and locks i see more of these days requiered there epic mounts so blizz let them have them.

Back in the day long before Cataclysm, the achievement was extremely difficult to obtain. It required that you either did not sleep much, or have a friend or two run BG's on your account. It was not possible for the average, or even slightly above average players to obtain this title. I'm talking like 18 hour days.
