An Unlikely Pairing in 10.2 - Lilian Voss & Shandris Feathermoon Against the Druids of the Flame

A surprising pairing can be found in the Emerald Dream in 10.2 - Lilian Voss, one of the Desolate Council members and leaders of the Forsaken, is working side by side with Shandris Feathermoon, Night Elf adopted daughter of Tyrande Whisperwind!
Warning: PTR Spoilers Ahead
A Call to Aid
Deralyn Summermoon and some of her fellow Dark Rangers have made the journey to Amirdrassil in 10.2, bringing the message that Lilian Voss has requested our help against the Druids of the Flame. Surprisingly, Lilian and Shandris Feathermoon have been working together, with Shandris leading the venture.
As an Undead, Lilian faces a certain amount of prejudice from the denizens of the Emerald Dream, who can't help but view her with suspicion. However, a cross-faction friendship appears to have formed between the two, with Shandris telling us from the start how impressed she's been with Lilian.
This operation would not have come this far without Lilian's aid.
We may not have much in common, but we both share the bond that those who have fought many battles have. She is a formidable warrior and... a kind soul.
Shandris Feathermoon's Journal
During the questline, Shandris becomes possessed with a dream spirit, that starts forcing her to relive some of her worst memories. While we do what we can to help, we are able to learn several details about Shandris's history from her own journal.

Why am I dwelling on this now? Why here?
I hear battle shouts and screams of fear. I can smell the rivers of blood in the streets of Ara-Hinam, my home.
I feel the loneliness I felt after the Burning Legion took my family. And before Tyrande found me.
Even then, I wanted... I wanted to fight! But Tyrande forbad me.
I did not listen. And my arrows tasted blood for the first time that day. But Tyrande was right. I was not ready. I was overjoyed when I found her side again...

I was " Captain" Feathermoon then.
The fel orcs destroyed my home. I watched Cenarius fall. How could I let it happen? A looming shadow crept into my mind.
<The writing becomes indecipherable.>
More and more demons came. I could not help everyone. We retreated. Some were left behind.
In the end, the combined might of the allied armies did not bring down Archimonde. It was Malfurion. We won, but I felt weak.
The cost was great. I watched Nordrassil, the symbol of my people
<The parchment is unfinished and bears the markings of tear drops.>

There was nothing I could have done to stop the naga from taking Feathermoon Isle.
I have rebuilt my home... for what? There will be a time when that home will fall, and I will watch it be taken from me all over again.
Some day I will not be able to take it back.
There will never be a safe place for me to call home.

I remember Theramore fading into the distance as I lead the Sentinels into Dustwallow Marsh.
A few hours earlier, l, now " General " Feathermoon, was standing with my battle sister, Jaina Proudmoore, at the center of the town.
It is gone now. All of it. The stench of battle haunts the ruins... I can smell it, here, in the Dream, between these dense forests. It feels so real.
Was there something I could have done?

Tyrande was the only mother I knew for 10,000 years.
I thought I was losing a mother again.
I pleaded her to stop the hunt, but I was too late. I watched as she was taken by the Night Warrior.
Whatever hope I had was shattered by
<Several partial or crossed out attempts at writing Sylvanas's name fill this space.>
The Banshee Queen.
I could not save her. I would have lost her if not for Ysera's intervention. I would have lost my mother again.
Again I was not enough. In Tyrande's rage she... she attacked me. Tyrande, why could you not see me?
Elune herself had to intervene. And what could I have done? Nothing.

The Druids of the Flame burn everything.
I have that sinking feeling in my chest, the same feeling when I heard Malfurion's call to defend Ashenvale reached my ears.
"What are you doing in Silithus?" I asked myself. "This will just end in tragedy again!"
Will this be another Darkshore? I can smell the forest burning.
We were not. No. I was ill prepared and I led them all to their deaths. Catapults rained arcane fire on our ships. Infiltrators used the chaos to destroy the fleet.
I had to sound the horns of retreat. I smell the fire between these trees, it is all around me.
<The handwriting becomes erratic.>
The smell of burning trees. I cannot get it out of my head. These Druids. Teldrassil.

I can't do this anymore.
Partly because of the dream spirit, Shandris's journal can't help but be dark as she expresses her frustration and hurt at all the loss she's suffered, and voices her fears that it will all happen again, that Amirdrassil will not be a new hope, but rather just another home to be invaded and destroyed. In this, Shandris echos a sentiment many Night Elves face, the sentiment expressed by Tyrande herself when she said,
I'm so tired, Malfurion.
An Unlikely Friendship
In the end, we help release Shandris from the spirit, but she is left exhausted and emotionally drained from the experience. The dryads who help us tell us that Shandris will need someone to stay with her, to help her heal - a task that Lilian takes on happily.
I will help Shandris however I can. It is what you do for friends.
Lilian Voss says: You can't keep all that anger bubbling around in you like a cauldron, You need to talk to someone. Talk to me.
Shandris Feathermoon says: I have been living with these memories for eons. I don't know a life without them haunting my mind.
Lilian Voss says: Someone told me that we all have pieces of our past that haunt us. But we're working towards a better future--together.
Shandris Feathermoon says: I... Would like that.
Lilian Voss says: I would too. Rest for now. We'll head back to Amirdrassil when you're ready.
The Implications
By the time we leave them, the two are closer friends than ever, a sweet outcome, but also a rather curious one.
As perhaps the most recognizable Forsaken after Sylvanas Windrunner herself, Lilian Voss can't help but still be the most prominent leader on the Desolate Council, the character that most feels like she could succeed Sylvanas by herself if she wanted to. However, Lilian has shown a remarkable affiliation for the Alliance. First, she has seldom been seen without Calia at her side - in fact this is one of the first times since the end of
Battle for Azeroth
where the Light-created Undead has been absent - and Calia has shown more than once that she is still very much on strong, friendly terms with the Alliance, even if she is a Forsaken leader. Now, Lilian's closest friend appears to be Shandris Feathermoon.
Couple this with the fact that Lilian really only joined the Forsaken fairly recently. For years, she rejected the companionship of her people, choosing to hunt the Scarlet Crusade on her own. It was a surprise when Lilian showed up on the side of the Horde during
Battle for Azeroth
, and some were even suspicious of her presence.
Lilian speaking so candidly of "working towards a better future together" with such a prominent member of the opposite faction really does drive home the theme of the faction war being well and truly over - and mirrors the way that even players can now be in cross-faction guilds. We have seen strong bonds of friendship form across the factions before - Jaina and Thrall, Anduin and Baine, amongst others. And while Deralyn Summermoon has remained with the Forsaken, some Dark Rangers have canonically returned to Night Elf society. Every day, we seem to be taking a step closer to Anduin's dream of the Living and their Undead loved ones reconnecting again.
However, we doubt we'll see the Forsaken settling in Amirdrassil alongside the Night Elves anytime soon.
