The Devastation Talent Tree for Evoker has been massively reworked with the
most recent build on Alpha
. This overhaul looks to bridge the gap between Red and Blue aspects of the class to provide more cohesiveness and depth to the new Ranged DPS spec. We break down all the changes to Devastation Talent Tree including the powerful new talent,
Explosion chargée
, that provides incredible burst AoE and new single target interactions.
Devastation Changes in Build 44999
Note: with the new build some class talents have changed.
This will likely break the class talent examples below.
Tempête-de-feu
- increased damage.
Flamme antique
- Position changed. Now requires
Harmonisation au Rêve
.
Frappe hébétante
- New talent, buffs racial abilities.
Magie régénératrice
- New follow up talent for
Source de magie
.
Guide de lumière
effect for 20% of healing while below 50% health.
Panacée
- New talent, instant heal from
Arbre d’émeraude
.
Evoker Dragonflight Talent Rework - What's Changed?
The Dragonflight expansion is introducing a revised version of the talent trees with branching paths and many choices for players. Evoker talents are looking pretty interesting, and the Devastation talents for Evoker have been massively reworked with the
most recent build on Alpha
. But what is the reason for the rework?
In a recent Blue post
, Blizzard has responded to some of the top pieces of feedback on the Devastation Evoker. The post is pretty long and goes into a lot of detail, so we will only focus on the relevant parts as they come up.
Blue Post Summary
With the current Devastation tree, a few things stood out to us amongst the discourse here and in other parts of the community. Namely:
The tree strongly signals that there is a “Red dragonflight build” on the left, and a separate “Blue dragonflight build” on the right.
Effects that scale with empower level, such as
Montée de puissance
and
Domination du tisse-sort
, remove gameplay by indicating that it is always correct to fully empower your spells.
Flammes avivées
&
Flamme semperardente
are an awkward combination.
Adaptation écarlate
is having a larger impact than intended on builds.
Blue-focused single-target builds don’t flow as well as they could.
So to answer the question of why rework, we have an answer: They are listening to feedback and making changes to improve the spec! After playtesting for a bit I think they have actually improved the gameplay quite a bit. There are still some issues, but
overall the changes are great
. Honestly, you love to see it.
Devastation Evoker is a specialization that excels in many areas. There are a lot of ways you can build your Evoker but the general highlights of this design are:
Playstyle that is easy to understand at a surface level, with surprising depth
Damage buff stacking for insane burst AoE
Strong cooldowns with with an interesting extension gimmick
Amazing utility that is unique to the class
Powerful self-healing that increases your damage output
Exciting and diverse build variety
Excellent Mobility
Short Range
Dragon!
All of these points will be explained in greater detail, but let's start with the obvious.
Devastation Spec Tree Changes
The
talent tree
is different. These are not small changes, this is a full on rework. Old talents are on the left and new talents are on the right for comparison:
As you can see, many talents in the tier 2 section of the tree were moved up, which gives us a lot more options on how to start off before unlocking more of the tree. In addition to this, many talents were moved or changed completely. We are not going into full detail on every change, but if you want to know more
.
Quick summary of changes:
Adaptation écarlate
has been nerfed but evoker still wants to help heal for damage, and it still gets a huge benefit.
Rage draconique
is considerably stronger now thanks to new interactions.
Rage draconique
cooldown can no longer be reduced, but it can be extended.
Empowering spells during
Rage draconique
is now a benefit with
Animosité
.
Domination du tisse-sort
has been reworked and the cooldown reduction for
Souffle profond
has been turned into a separate talent,
Héritage d’onyx
.
Interactions between talents that amplify damage provide incredible synergy and build variety.
Iridescence
,
Explosion chargée
,
Colère titanesque
,
Tyrannie
,
Morsure du feu
,
Étoile fracassante
,
Adaptation écarlate
, and
Flammes bondissantes
are a few examples.
Explosion chargée
allows players to bank damage for AoE, and can be used with
Rage draconique
/
Tyrannie
and other above examples for further potency.
Montée de puissance
is a base duration, regardless of empowerment level.
Présence imposante
has been moved up and placed as a choice with
Radiance intérieure
. One of these is required for
Rage draconique
.
Flammes avivées
reworked to benefit from Single Target and Aoe.
Flamme semperardente
and
Flammes avivées
are now a choice capstone.
Gap between Red and Blue has been bridged with talents like
Catalyse
,
Iridescence
,
Explosion chargée
, and
Agression cinglante
Explosion chargée
We are skipping ahead a little, but to start things off strong I want to highlight one talent to give you an idea of what is in store for us later. This brand new talent deserves to be more than just a
sub-header
because it is absolutely insane.
Explosion chargée
adds another layer to Devastation gameplay where Blue spells ramp your
Bûcher
damage. As previously mentioned, each tick of
Désintégration
and target hit by
Afflux d’éternité
/
Frappe d’azur
provides one stack. This means that talents like
Serres allongées
and
Tranche d’éternité
make you build the stacks quicker. The buff from
Explosion chargée
is 30 seconds long which makes it easy to bank stacks for the perfect opportunity. Note:
Souffle profond
is a black spell and is not affected.
The idea of building damage on your next
Bûcher
makes the skill actually have a use-case in Single Target, and also lets you build burst damage for AoE opportunities. In general, Devastation Evoker feels really strong in situations where you know adds are spawning on a certain timer and this talent adds to this strength. Having an
Explosion d’essence
proc with the new
Colère titanesque
talent will further increase the power of your
Explosion chargée
juiced
Bûcher
, but that's not all! If you remember,
Rage draconique
(your main cooldown) also fires off up to 3
Bûcher
s and
I'm happy to report that they actually get buffed by
Explosion chargée
as well!
To quote Billy Mays, "But wait ... there's more!" Doing this gives you
3x the value
and with
Tyrannie
you also get the
full value of your mastery,
Maîtrise : Fléau des géants
.
Étoile fracassante
(another new spell) can also be used to prime two of your targets for your
Explosion chargée
ed super
Bûcher
, assuming you also picked up
Tranche d’éternité
. That's 20% more damage for two of the targets!
These are some of the coolest interactions I have ever seen in this game. Now that you've had a sample, let's talk about
Rage draconique
and the changes that have made this a proper cooldown.
Rage draconique
/
Explosion d’essence
Changes
There are two big changes for
Rage draconique
with this rework that are making the main cooldown for Devastation Evokers feel a lot better to use, and more impactful. These are summarized as increased value of
Explosion d’essence
and incentives to use empowered Spells during
Rage draconique
. Note:
Rage draconique
cooldown can no longer be reduced, but it can be extended.
Domination du tisse-sort
has been reworked and the cooldown reduction for
Souffle profond
has been turned into a separate talent,
Héritage d’onyx
.
Increased Value of
Explosion d’essence
The power of
Rage draconique
is directly tied to the value of
Explosion d’essence
and
Maîtrise : Fléau des géants
. In general, the power of
Rage draconique
has been increased. Previously, this cooldown felt a bit weak and was mainly used with
Tyrannie
as a way to activate the full power of
Maîtrise : Fléau des géants
when the target had already lost health.
Explosion d’essence
was often ignored during other buffs, like
Incandescence
, because it didn't provide further damage scaling for spells that cost
Essence
.
Thanks to a couple of talent changes,
Explosion d’essence
is now more powerful than before.
Colère titanesque
- This is a new talent that adds a direct buff to all spells that cost
Essence
with an
Explosion d’essence
proc. This is a 2 point talent which means that
Explosion d’essence
is a 20% buff with this slotted. This talent is under
Rage draconique
, which makes sense because it is the primary reason why
Rage draconique
is stronger now. You can think of this interaction as a 20% buff to the damage of
Rage draconique
.
Flammes avivées
(capstone) - This has also been reworked. We will talk more about it in a bit, but the big takeaway is that
Souffle de feu
cooldown reduction is now tied to
Explosion d’essence
. This means that the talent has applications in single target now, since
Désintégration
and
Bûcher
both consume
Explosion d’essence
.
Causalité
- This talent isn't specifically tied to
Explosion d’essence
, but more
Explosion d’essence
procs generally mean more
Essence
ability casts.
Explosion d’essence
being stronger means
Rage draconique
is
also stronger
.
Puissance accumulée
(capstone) also technically affects
Explosion d’essence
by giving it a chance to not be consumed.
Incentives to use Empowered Spells during
Rage draconique
Previously, there was an issue with Empowered Spells and
Rage draconique
which caused hiccups in your damage cooldown when
Afflux d’éternité
or
Souffle de feu
came off cooldown during
Rage draconique
. This led to strange gameplay decisions like delaying
Rage draconique
and ignoring your Empowered Spells or
Rage draconique
, depending on the situation. Spending time empowering spells during
Rage draconique
felt awkward, and incorrect. This is no longer the case.
Animosité
is a new talent directly under
Rage draconique
. This talent gives a heavy incentive to use Empowered spells (
Afflux d’éternité
and
Souffle de feu
) during
Rage draconique
because they
extend the buff by 6 seconds, regardless of empowerment level
. This is an amount larger than the time it takes to empower the spell, even to max. New talents like
Iridescence
provide additional incentives to cast empowered spells during
Rage draconique
, but let's talk about this later.
This is a fantastic change but I want to highlight that it was a very good decision to make this extension a set amount! Empowering spells longer means you get less benefit, but that trade-off is good because it means that the decision on what empowerment level to send the spell with still matters. This talent has some synergies with other traits on the tree, as well.
Afflux d’éternité
becomes a talent you will almost always want because a level 1
Afflux d’éternité
is around 5 seconds added to
Rage draconique
.
Anything that reduces the cooldown of
Afflux d’éternité
and
Souffle de feu
enough to enable multiple casts during
Rage draconique
also become hugely more important since they extend the
Rage draconique
buff. The main drivers of cooldown reduction are
Flammes avivées
(capstone) and
Causalité
.
As mentioned before,
Souffle de feu
cooldown reduction is now tied to
Explosion d’essence
with the
Flammes avivées
(capstone) talent.
Rage draconique
is our main source of
Explosion d’essence
and
Souffle de feu
extends
Rage draconique
. The cooldown of
Souffle de feu
is long enough that this will not cause a feedback loop, but it will allow for some really fun gameplay.
Causalité
also provides cooldown reduction, but is only half as effective as
Flammes avivées
. The difference is that it doesn't require
Explosion d’essence
but it still benefits. More
Explosion d’essence
procs generally mean more
Essence
ability casts.
Flammes avivées
and
Rage draconique
extending with
Animosité
A lot of this has already been explained but I want to drive this point home.
Rage draconique
is a cooldown we will always use, but the interactions with it
depend on your build
. Taking
Animosité
means you will also want to take
Afflux d’éternité
, but it doesn't necessarily mean that you want
Flammes avivées
and
Causalité
.
Flammes avivées
is a capstone, after all. Let's assume that you are using
Flammes avivées
, though.
Follow this logic with me:
With
Flammes avivées
,
Souffle de feu
cooldown reduction is tied to
Explosion d’essence
generation.
Rage draconique
provides a
Explosion d’essence
with every
Flamme vivante
and
Frappe d’azur
.
With
Flammes bondissantes
(class talent) every
Souffle de feu
makes
Flamme vivante
hit an additional target per empowerment level. Each of these
Flamme vivante
that hit an enemy have a chance to proc
Explosion d’essence
. This means you will get two
Explosion d’essence
procs if you take
Harmonisation de l’essence
.
Souffle de feu
extends
Rage draconique
.
With
Causalité
, more
Explosion d’essence
generation /
Essence
spending also means cooldown reduction for
Afflux d’éternité
.
Rage draconique
means more
Explosion d’essence
, which means more
Souffle de feu
/
Afflux d’éternité
, which means more
Rage draconique
uptime, which means more
Explosion d’essence
, etc., etc., etc. It's a circle.
Before you get too excited, the cooldown of
Souffle de feu
and
Afflux d’éternité
are long enough (compared to the cooldown reduction of
Flammes avivées
and
Causalité
) that this will not cause a feedback loop but it does mean that haste buffs like
Distorsion temporelle
give your cooldown
additional scaling in the form of increased duration
! This makes for fun and interesting gameplay and is a huge win in my book. All of this is thanks to the incredible synergy that
Animosité
allows.
And that's not all! We haven't even gotten to the
Iridescence
capstone, more on this in a bit.
Interrupt Cooldown Reduction -
Présence imposante
One of the best changes in this tree is that
Présence imposante
has been moved up and placed in a spot where the node for it is required for
Rage draconique
. This has become a choice between
Présence imposante
/
Radiance intérieure
which means that you must take the node but you can swap off of the cooldown reduction if you want. The big takeaway is that you
don't give up any damage
to pick up
Présence imposante
but if you want you can instead grab more self healing with
Radiance intérieure
. This is an absolutely fantastic change because both talents are situationally useful. In raid
Radiance intérieure
is fantastic but
Présence imposante
will be best for times when you want a shorter interrupt cooldown, like Mythic+.
Blue Single Target Flow:
Étoile fracassante
This talent is a rework of a previous Blue talent called Charged Blast, which addresses some general problems that Blue builds had before the rework. Blizzard did a really good job explaining their rationale, click the toggler below for their summary.
Blue Post Summary
Blue dragonflight-focused single-target builds don’t flow as well as they could.
Two key talents to these builds are Charged Blast and Focusing Iris, both of which have been the subject of insightful discussion and concern.
Charged Blast is intended to be something that can spice up single-target gameplay for those who want an additional layer of complexity within the rotation. Many of you have expressed that the current design, requiring 2 Azure Strikes before casting Charged Blast, isn’t quite hitting the mark because although it does add complexity, it doesn’t add interaction.
Focusing Iris is intended to be a more passive option that accomplishes similar goals as Charged Blast. However, the combination of timing an ability immediately after finishing a channeled spell, with the relatively high uptime of the debuff, makes Focusing Iris both more burdensome & less potent than it could potentially be.
To address this, we’re combining what we feel are the best parts of both into a new ability! Charged Blast and Focusing Iris as they currently exist are being removed, and replaced with a spell called
Étoile fracassante
.
Étoile fracassante
is a short cooldown that makes the target take increased damage for a short time.
Tranche d’éternité
can be used to make this cleave. Contrary to the tooltip, this does not cost
Essence
currently. Hopefully this is intended, because I'm not entirely sold on the design otherwise.
Iris de focalisation
/
Vigueur arcanique
are talents that empower this spell.
Iris de focalisation
increases the damage amp duration by 50% and
Vigueur arcanique
gives 1
Essence
on cast (even if it cleaves).
Étoile fracassante
is best used when amplifying your biggest spells. More on this later.
Empower Level Decision Making Improvements
There was an issue before with Empower Levels, since talents like
Montée de puissance
and old
Domination du tisse-sort
heavily incentivized you to ignore the empowerment system and always full send for maximum value. Blizzard has addressed this by making
Montée de puissance
a flat duration and reworking
Domination du tisse-sort
entirely. This is a fantastic change.
Separation of Red and Blue
Another aspect of the rework is an effort to bridge the gap between Red and Blue builds.
Blue Post Summary
Having thematic groupings on either side is a great introduction to the talent tree. It resonates as something you would expect for the specialization, and makes it easier to know where to look for modifiers to certain abilities. However, Devastation utilizes both Red
and
Blue magic, and the current tree isn’t celebrating that theme well enough. Builds that use both types of magic should be the norm, with all-Red or all-Blue being much more niche. To make using both colors more effective, we’ve adjusted many talents’ locations or function, as well as added new nodes.
Essentially the idea here is that both sides of the tree should work together. There are a lot of things that have been changed to help bridge the gap, but we are going to focus on the most effective parts.
Agression cinglante
- This talent now affects both
Frappe d’azur
and
Flamme vivante
Catalyse
- New talent, this makes
Désintégration
boost the damage over time frequency of
Souffle de feu
during the duration. This gives Red another Single Target talent, which helps it move away from the AoE focus most of the Red themed talents had previously.
Iridescence
(capstone) - New talent,
Souffle de feu
and
Afflux d’éternité
boost the damage of the next two spells of the same color within 10 seconds.
Explosion chargée
- New talent, Blue damage causes you to build stacks to increase the damage of
Bûcher
, the Red
Essence
spender. Each tick of
Désintégration
and target hit by
Afflux d’éternité
/
Frappe d’azur
/
Étoile fracassante
provide one stack each. It's super effective!
With the rework, Blizzard certainly made mixing Red and Blue talents better, but a lot of this is due to other interactions and synergies we have already covered.
Agression cinglante
and
Catalyse
help, but they are not that interesting or impactful.
Iridescence
and
Explosion chargée
, on the other hand, are worth expanding on.
Iridescence
Previously we talked about how empowering spells during
Rage draconique
is good now thanks to
Animosité
, and
Iridescence
gives us an additional benefit! This talent is beneficial to both Red and Blue, and focusing on just one will reduce the effectiveness. I love the idea of this talent and the interesting gameplay decisions it helps bring about. This talent is best paired with other damage increases, for maximum synergy. Examples include:
Explosion chargée
,
Colère titanesque
,
Morsure du feu
,
Étoile fracassante
,
Adaptation écarlate
, and
Flammes bondissantes
.
Explosion chargée
- Red and Blue
Charged Blast is a key part of the new design that merges Red and Blue. Blue damage causes you to build stacks to increase the damage of
Bûcher
, the Red
Essence
spender. Did I mention this talent is crazy? We have
previously discussed this talent at length here
.
Flammes avivées
and
Flamme semperardente
These talents both increase your
Souffle de feu
uptime, they just do it in different ways. With the rework, they have been placed into a capstone together as a choice node.
Blue Post Summary
Flammes avivées
&
Flamme semperardente
are an awkward combination.
Taken together, these two talents quickly push Devastation into a space of having
Souffle de feu
off cooldown for a length of time while an existing
Souffle de feu
damage over time effect gets extended. That said, both talents offer interesting potential gameplay and impact builds in different ways. They will now be in a choice node against each other, and
Flammes avivées
is being redesigned to fit into more builds:
Flammes avivées
was the stronger of the two previously, so it makes sense for it to be moved down to the capstone level. With the rework,
Souffle de feu
cooldown reduction is now tied to
Explosion d’essence
. This means that the talent has applications in single target now, since
Désintégration
and
Bûcher
both consume
Explosion d’essence
.
Flamme semperardente
has also been adjusted to include
all
Red spells. For AoE, this is a great change because it indirectly buffs
Tempête-de-feu
, a Red spell that hits constantly in an area. As of right now, one
Tempête-de-feu
ticks 7 times. A level 4 empowered
Souffle de feu
lasts 16 seconds, so this means that two full
Tempête-de-feu
s alone are enough to reach 100% uptime. This makes
Flamme semperardente
a decent option for AoE builds, but
Flammes avivées
still seems like the better option generally.
Class Tree Changes
When it comes to the class tree, the big thing here is
Adaptation écarlate
.
Adaptation écarlate
This is a class talent, which means that it is not exclusive to Devastation. In the
recent Blue Post
, Blizzard explained the issue with this talent and their solution to fix it.
Blue Post Summary
Adaptation écarlate
is having a larger impact than intended on builds.
The current value of
Adaptation écarlate
causes a warping effect on how Devastation builds their talent loadouts, in particular due to the interaction with
Flammes bondissantes
– when
Flamme vivante
hits additional targets via
Flammes bondissantes
, all of the
Flamme vivante
benefit from any
Adaptation écarlate
damage the Evoker has. The
Flammes bondissantes
interaction is intended, and the response to it has been one of excitement. However, it is important for there to be multiple options for how to build your character for area-of-effect damage situations.
The intent of
Adaptation écarlate
is to encourage, and reward, hybridization for both specializations. Preservation Evokers who enjoy dealing damage can easily access the node, but aren’t required to pick it up in their path to other high-power healing talents. Devastation Evokers who want to help their group with additional healing can take it to be rewarded for taking action when their group is in a dangerous situation. To better meet those goals,
Adaptation écarlate
's damage cap is being reduced to 2x Spellpower, down from its current value of 6x Spellpower.
Before this change,
Adaptation écarlate
was absolutely busted. Fully stacking it up with healing and other buffs could result in over a million
Flamme vivante
damage with a single cast. It was a lot of fun but very broken. Simply put, the cap is now 1/3rd of what it was before. This change is very well thought out because it keeps the same potency per heal (20%) for the
Adaptation écarlate
buff while making Evokers
feel less pressured
spend a ton of time healing to cap it out.
Adaptation écarlate
highlights from a dungeon stream, before it was nerfed.
On my current Evoker on Alpha, I only need to heal 40% of my own health to get the full benefit. A single
Brasier de rénovation
, or a couple heals with
Étreinte verdoyante
,
Flamme vivante
, or
Arbre d’émeraude
are enough to fully charge my
Adaptation écarlate
. This means that the incentive to heal is still there, it's just easier to get the full benefit from and far less ridiculous to abuse for damage. The nerf fixed extreme cases while keeping the gameplay the same.
Evoker still wants to help heal for damage, and it still gets a huge benefit!
Huge Kudos to Blizzard for making this change without removing the fun.
Other Class Tree changes
There are some other minor changes to the class tree, like a
Source de magie
nerf, but nothing else is impactful enough to highlight at this time. Below is an example of class tree talents for 5 man content. Many of these choices are situational.
Rugissement oppressant
and
Intimidation rugissante
are obvious choices for
Déchaîné
weeks, for instance.
View on Dragonflight Talent Tree
Issues that Remain
The biggest issue I see for this spec is
Incandescence
. Tying this to a duration is weird because
Flamme vivante
is either ignored for other casts or prioritized as more important than anything else during the buff, depending on your build. An easy solution here would be to extend the duration and cap the amount of casts it speeds up.
Tempête-de-feu
still feels very weak without a
Morsure du feu
buff. I would like to see this talent make
Tempête-de-feu
always do 40% more damage, with the proc only resetting the cooldown and making it instant cast.
Puissance accumulée
as a capstone also feels a bit weaker than the alternatives, but this could be easily fixed with tuning.
Other issues that are more Alpha specific remain.
Souffle profond
sometimes bugs and keeps you in place while doing nothing. Spells that cost
Essence
still often show that they cannot be casted even if you have the
Essence
to spend. Empowering spells still feels weird because there is a small window where you don't incur a global cooldown if you queue a cast right as they finish.
Example Builds
Devastation has a bit of flexibility with its talents. Keep in mind these are just examples.
Blue Focus Build with
Explosion chargée
View on Dragonflight Talent Tree
This example is a general use Raid build with
Explosion chargée
.
Explosion chargée
adds another layer to Devastation gameplay where Blue spells ramp your
Bûcher
damage. Each tick of
Désintégration
and target hit by
Afflux d’éternité
/
Frappe d’azur
provides one stack. The buff from
Explosion chargée
is 30 seconds long which makes it easy to bank stacks for add spawns.
Explosion chargée
stacks also make
Rage draconique
do more damage with the
Bûcher
s it fires off. With
Tyrannie
we also get the
full value of your mastery,
Maîtrise : Fléau des géants
.
If hitting 2 or more targets,
Étoile fracassante
should be used to prime two of your targets for your
Explosion chargée
ed super
Bûcher
.
Tranche d’éternité
is picked so that
Afflux d’éternité
procs from
Scintillement
and
Étoile fracassante
s cleave.
Désintégration
with
Scintillement
and
Incandescence
with
Brasier enveloppant
are our primary single target damage drivers.
Étoile fracassante
is used primarily to boost
Afflux d’éternité
and
Désintégration
, unless there is AoE happening.
Domination du tisse-sort
is generally good, since it boosts crit damage by 20%.
For capstones we go with
Iridescence
and
Flammes avivées
.
Flammes avivées
is an obvious choice because
Souffle de feu
extends
Rage draconique
, provides
Incandescence
, gives us
Montée de puissance
uptime, and with
Flammes bondissantes
provides extra free healing or damage during cleave.
Iridescence
also synergizes here since it makes
Souffle de feu
buff our next two Red spells. More
Souffle de feu
means more
Iridescence
effectiveness. There are a lot of small changes you could make to this build depending on the situation, but for general use it feels very strong to play in Raid, Mythic+, and questing.
Class talents are very situational and would change depending on the encounter, like
Présence imposante
instead of
Radiance intérieure
. On the Devastation side, you could also swap
Étoile fracassante
and
Scintillement
out for
Vague de chaleur
and
Héritage d’onyx
for more AoE.
Agression cinglante
and
Destruction imminente
could be swapped in for single target / sustained AoE at the cost of burst AoE.
Red Focus AoE Build with
Explosion chargée
View on Dragonflight Talent Tree
This example is a build that focuses a bit more on AoE. I'm still not entirely sold on
Tempête-de-feu
, but it is a source of uncapped AoE.
Flammes avivées
can be swapped for
Flamme semperardente
but I generally prefer the cooldown reduction since it means more single target with
Incandescence
for bosses.
Explosion chargée
adds another layer to Devastation gameplay where Blue spells ramp your
Bûcher
damage. Each tick of
Désintégration
and target hit by
Afflux d’éternité
/
Frappe d’azur
provides one stack. The buff from
Explosion chargée
is 30 seconds long which makes it easy to bank stacks for add spawns.
Incandescence
with
Brasier enveloppant
is our primary single target damage driver.
Domination du tisse-sort
is generally good, since it boosts crit damage by 20%.
Héritage d’onyx
is a big pick for AoE and provides a 1min stun with
Terreur des cieux
. It also does more damage with
Ravager
.
Nexus de puissance
is missing, but with
Bûcher
as a 2
Essence
cost and additional
Explosion d’essence
from
Puissance accumulée
it doesn't feel like you're missing out on much.
For capstones we go with only
Flammes avivées
because
Explosion chargée
is a bit out of the way. We also grab
Tranche d’éternité
to make getting stacks faster.
Flammes avivées
makes
Souffle de feu
extend
Rage draconique
, gives us
Incandescence
, and with
Flammes bondissantes
provides extra free healing or damage during cleave.
Class talents are very situational and would change depending on the encounter. On the Devastation side, there are a ton of swaps like
Catalyse
that would make sense depending on how much focus on AoE you would like to shift to single target.
Red Focus AoE Build (No
Explosion chargée
)
View on Dragonflight Talent Tree
This example is a build that focuses a bit more on AoE. I'm still not entirely sold on
Tempête-de-feu
, but it is a source of uncapped AoE.
Flammes avivées
can be swapped for
Flamme semperardente
but I generally prefer the cooldown reduction since it means more single target with
Incandescence
for bosses.
Incandescence
with
Brasier enveloppant
is our primary single target damage driver.
Domination du tisse-sort
is generally good, since it boosts crit damage by 20%.
Héritage d’onyx
is a big pick for AoE and provides a 1min stun with
Terreur des cieux
. It also does more damage with
Ravager
.
Nexus de puissance
is missing, but with
Bûcher
as a 2
Essence
cost and additional
Explosion d’essence
from
Puissance accumulée
it doesn't feel like you're missing out on much.
For capstones we go with
Flammes avivées
and
Puissance accumulée
. Generally speaking, I think
Puissance accumulée
feels weaker than other capstones but it still has synergies.
Flammes avivées
makes
Souffle de feu
extend
Rage draconique
, gives us
Incandescence
, and with
Flammes bondissantes
provides extra free healing or damage during cleave.
Puissance accumulée
gives us a chance to not consume
Explosion d’essence
. Despite what the tooltip says, it does seem to work with talents like
Flammes avivées
.
Biggest strike against this build is no easy way to get
Explosion chargée
. With the current tuning I think you always want this talent, especially in AoE. Class talents are very situational and would change depending on the encounter. On the Devastation side, there are a ton of swaps like
Catalyse
that would make sense depending on how much focus on AoE you would like to shift to single target.
Conclusion
The Devastation tree is much better now with the rework. Devastation has exciting and diverse build variety and play styles that are easy to understand at a surface level, with surprising depth. You have strong options for cleave, burst, and sustained aoe that nicely fit in with the single target playstyle.
Rage draconique
feels much stronger with
Colère titanesque
. It also has a lot of neat interactions with
Animosité
for extending the buff,
Explosion chargée
and
Iridescence
for increasing the damage of the 3
Bûcher
s, and
Tyrannie
for
Maîtrise : Fléau des géants
scaling. Evoker also has amazing utility that is unique to the class and powerful self-healing that increases your damage output with
Adaptation écarlate
.
There are still some things that might be an issue with
Incandescence
and
Tempête-de-feu
but these are fairly minor compared to where we were before. Overall the rework has made Devastation a much more interesting and exciting spec. I hope you are as excited as I am to play Evoker in Dragonflight! I only have one final request: Blizzard, if you are reading this, can we get the team that worked on this rework to look at other classes like Mage and Priest next?
