News Round Up: Crystallized Firestones, Level 80 RAF, and Firelands Progression
There has been a lot of speculation that the rest of the VP items will indeed be able to become 391 ilevel with the use of a
Pierre de feu cristallisée
. Instead of getting these upgrades from the vendor like you do for the other 391 items, you would be able to apply it to the item for your upgrade. Unfortunately the firestone droprate is lower than it should be, so few guilds have seen them, and the ones seen have been presumably used right away on the existing 391 vendor items so no one has tested this theory.
A user sent
this link in
to us showing their conversation with GMs and there have been a lot of other logs circling around. Hopefully someone confirms this ASAP;
a GM response is never proof
, but at the same time, it would be nice and it would explain the 391 items we have in our DB. It's possible that they just never implemented them.

News Roundup: Hotfixes and New Honor Gear
Blizzard sometimes makes mistakes and today was all about addressing them apparently--there are a lot of hotfixes to read that fix 4.2's bigger problems and there's also a blue explanation for the PvP gear.
Regarding the PvP gear situation for those who don't PvP (or didn't log on yet), they gave us new season 10 gear that was purchasable with honor without requirements. This came right after season 9 gear became available last week for honor and similarly without requirements. This means lot of people farmed honor all last week since new gear was available and will now have to farm it again for the ilevel increased season 10 gear--which is actually the same season 9 gear with massively increased stats.
This is a pretty major change; it's streamlining PvP gear for those who don't do RBGs or arenas much like how they streamlined valor points for those who don't raid. Much like how you can get a decent PvE set without doing heroic modes or raiding hardcore, you can now get a great PvP set without having to live in the arena. Like any major change, it's being received very negatively, largely in part to this lack of announcement and foresight.
P.S. The best hotfix? There are now more wounded defenders in Hyjal for the dailies! Se

New Expansion Rumored to be Vengeance of the Void
There's "
a leaked document
" from Blizzard making the rounds this holiday weekend; we figured we'd post it here before you guys started tipping us off to it and asking why we didn't respond to it. Like anything that's unofficial and comes from an unreliable source, this is an
unconfirmed rumor
and
probably fake
so take it with a grain of salt; there's a good chance it's just some fan trying to get their fifteen minutes of fame. However, it's definitely a well done fake if it is one. The only really suspicious part is the header itself which has the wrong address (Blizzard is based in Irvine, CA)--the person who created this knows their lore.
The "document" mostly gives an overview of what levels 85-90 will be like, detailing how the expansion will take place years after the Burning Crusade and focus on Outland's growing instability. The Burning Legion would be the central antagonist after Deathwing's demise. Demon Hunters will also supposedly take a supporting role in the expansion, though not as a playable class.
This would be an interesting direction--TBC and the Outlands in general are long considered the best expansion, the setting having earned a fond place in most player

Hotfixes (July 1st) and Wowhead Contest Winners
A lot of hotfixes to tide us over for the three day weekend, most notably:
Blizzard officially responds in their own way to STARS by changing it so heroic difficulty isn't enabled until next week, regardless of if you killed Ragnaros or not.
Firelands trash farming got hit with the nerfbat; epics won't be dropping half as much.
More Firelands trash fixes were put up, in particular the HP values and damage they do are now better suited for the difficulty. In other words, 25-man trash mobs now have increased values befitting a raid of 25 players.
There was a particularly random bug where you would randomly take fall damage and die while walking in areas--Blizzard assures us that's now fixed.
Contest Winners
The winners of our latest contest have finally been chosen. Congratulations to the lucky people, and better luck to the ones who didn't get picked! Emails will go out by Tuesday, if not sooner (three day weekend here)!

News Round Up: Tabard Slot, Pugging 4.0 Content, and STARS Exploits
So now that the dust has settled from 4.2's eerily smooth launch, it's back to raiding and waiting to see what 4.3 will bring. While we wait, though, we have some interesting blue posts and a round up of what's been going on so far.
On some servers, the new dailies have been resetting. A lot. Many players are already on or about to be on the third stage. If you find yourself up at 3AM when dailies should reset on your server, they may reset again at 4AM and then again at 5AM. Hopefully it gets straightened out.
Daily quests aside, there are some even bigger "exploits" rumored to be happening right now that's got the PvE scene worked up. The well-known guild STARS decided to kill Ragnaros like many of us did--his death is required before you can begin heroic modes, much like how ICC had the LK as a gating mechanic for heroics. Unlike the rest of us, however, they took it a step farther when right after their kill the entire guild faction transferred to reset their raid lock, forming
a new guild
. This is clearly not an intended use of game mechanic and, in the past, when guilds have done thi

Ask the Creative Devs #2
To say that it's been a while since there was a session to ask the creative team at Blizzard questions would probably be an understatement. However, today is changing all that--if you're a lore fanatic, you're about to get some light shed on some very obscure topics. From the question of the blood elves' true eye color to pondering on where the forsaken get their ship fleet from, we've got the second "Ask the CDevs" to show you guys.
The moon recently sent some irate emails to our Creative Development team, threatening to vacate Earth's orbit if we didn't divulge the answers to the "Ask CDev #2" thread soon. Rather than calling the moon's bluff, the CDev team stepped up its timetable and is now ready to present the answers to your questions!
In an effort to efficiently disseminate as much information as possible, many of these questions are amalgamations of several slight variations asked by the US, EU, Korean, and Chinese player bases. In addition, a few unanswered questions from "Ask CDev #1" are included as well. Enjoy!

Wowhead's Patch 4.2 Guide
4.2 is coming soon--very soon in fact. And we aren't oblivious to this fact, either.
In fact, as the news dries up, we're inclined to make a singular compendium of all the vast changes this patch brings in the form of
yet another Wowhead guide

Fête du Feu du solstice d'été
Post
The festivities have begun as the citizens of Azeroth and Outland celebrate the hottest of seasons by playing with fire all across these worlds! You'll want to take part no matter your experience or character level, as this is one of the most rewarding holiday events of the year. It's also one of the most PvP-heavy events, so strap into your gladiator gear and get ready to desecrate or defend the Midsummer bonfires.
As with most holidays you'll want to stop by a capital city to begin the event’s main quests, including the ever-fun torch tossing challenges. While in each of the capital cities, be on the lookout for enemy players; stealing the flames from capital city bonfires is a necessary step in getting everything out of this once-a-year event.
Ultimately you'll collect Burning Blossoms through your participation in these events, a special holiday currency you’ll then spend to purchase various items and pets available from the Midsummer suppliers and m

Patch 4.2: New PvP Ground Mounts
We've posted about the ground mounts before, but Blizzard did an official preview and it's nice to see them in their actual environments. They look great and hopefully it's a step forward for mount design. Back in April, Ghostcrawler said it was hard to come up with new mount designs during their BlizzCast--we think this proves you don't have to do anything extremely fancy or inventive, sometimes adding more textures and details can be enough to create awesome new mount rewards!
In order to best accommodate players under the unique play style of Rated Battlegrounds, we’ll be offering all-new PvP ground mounts -- the

Patch 4.2: Craftables
We thought we'd wrap the week up with a post about all of the crafted items that are available in patch 4.2. Since it's only ten days away, there's a lot of ground to cover. Overall, most professions will be happy to see a lot of lucrative items to craft are in this patch--from PvP to PvP gear, to glyphs, and even a scope!
Right now, we're unable to confirm where
some
of the epic recipes are dropping. We suspect the ones that are ilevel 378 are from the instance themselves and we can confirm the 365 ones are from the vendors. It's worth noting though that when we downed a boss last week, there were no patterns tied to its loot table, so it may just be from trash.
Regardless of their source, however, since the recipes are BoE they will be widely available to any type of crafters. It will be a lot like the BoE recipes from
