5.3 PTR: Valley of Spirits Shut Down, Pet Battle Accuracy Changes
Today's newspost covers two very different types of battles on the PTR--Battlefield: Barrens and pet battle changes. Since our
post last week on the Horde Rebellion
, we've found a few more signs of strife in the area and it's now been included in the
official 5.3 PTR Patch Notes
. Most notably, the Valley of Spirits has been shut down in 5.3 under Kor'kron surveillance.
And if you prefer lighter combat, pet battles are getting some accuracy changes in 5.3 to keep combat from feeling repetitive.
Valley of Spirits Shut Down
The first time we previewed Orgrimmar on the PTR, Kor'kron guards were keeping the troll section of Orgrimmar on lockdown. But things have gotten even worse--they've terrified the NPCs to the point where the Valley of Spirits has been shut down. Players cannot access the Auction House, Banks, class trainers, profession trainers, and all vendors. (Suddenly, those pet snakes from

In addition, the portal to Blasted Lands has been removed, and

Updated 5.3 PTR Patch Notes and Patch 5.2 Hotfixes
Blizzard just posted some Patch 5.2 Hotfixes on their US blog, as well as updated 5.3 PTR Patch Notes earlier today on their EU blog. Here's the highlights:
Horde Rebellion:
The
Horde Rebellion we noticed last week on the 5.3 PTR
is now officially in the notes and called "Quest Campaign: Escalation."
Players complete quests to support the Darkspear in rebelling against Garrosh, and destroy Kor'kron NPCs and their supply carts in the Northern Barrens.
As rewards, players get
Latent Kor’kron Armor
which can be turned into a spec-appropriate ilvl 476 epic.
Brawler's Guild:
Rank 9 and 10 bosses have been added to the Brawler's Guild. (Not in notes: Rank 10 players can purchase
Mushan mastoc de bastonneur
on the PTR.)
Rank 8 players can access special VIP areas.

Diablo III for Console: Press Kit and PAX East Interview
Last weekend at PAX East, we checked out the Diablo III console demo in addition to covering
Hearthstone, Blizzard's new game
!
While Diablo III may seem easy to adapt for console play, there are a lot of quality-of-life changes:
In multiplayer mode, you'll be able to play side-by-side, as well as via the network. The camera will zoom out to accommodate players separated.
Fewer items drop from mobs, but they tend to be high quality. Items you wish to vendor can also be tagged as junk while fighting.
Higher-quality items drop from the console version because there is no Auction House as a means of obtaining gear.
Console monsters have a staggered combat rhythm, as being surprised by a cluster of mobs is exciting and fun on a PC, but less so with console mechanics.
A new event queue shows recent buffs and items looted. Symbols will pop up for all recent items showing how much of an upgrade or downgrade it is, for easy reference.

PvP Gear in Patch 5.3
Blizzard just posted a highly-anticipated blog on PvP in Patch 5.3. There are several controversial changes:
The biggest change is that all gear in all Battlegrounds and Arenas will be scaled down to ilvl 496, which is the level of Season 13 Conquest Gear.
Resilience will also be removed from all gear, although it will remain on gems and enchantments--to compensate for this, all level 85+ players will have 65% base resilience. PvP Power will remain on all gear.
Since gear above ilvl 496 will be scaled down, Elite items will be primarily cosmetic rewards instead of powerful PvP armor.
Battle Fatigue will increase to make PvP gear superior for healers.
Other changed described during 5.2's PTR are still in place, namely that the 7,250
requirement for weapons will be waived in 5.3, and a catch-up mechanism will be implemented so newer players can earn more points per week. If you've gotten over 25,000
, you can also purchase Tyrannical gear for Honor.
As for the ilvl 496 scaling--many players felt that having multiple tiers of PvP gear in 5.2 led to an uneven playing field. Item Upgrades were removed from PvP gear for this reason, and keeping overpowered ilvl
