The Trial of Style, what You need to Know for next Time

The Trial of Style is a 5 day event in World of Warcraft that is wonderful for transmog enthusiasts and dabblers alike!During the Trial of Style

All Transmogrification costs are reduced to Zero!

All Barbershop Costs are reduced to Zero!

The Trial of Style Scenario becomes available to queue at all the Ethereal Transmogrification NPCs.

In the Scenario you can earn Marque de l'épreuve du style to purchase some cosmetic rewards such as Maillot de corps à la mode and ensembles such as Ensemble : armure de Der'izu

There is (now) a Shirt and Tabard Vendor in the Scenario.

The rewards and tokens persist after the event unlike many other holiday items. As long as you have the number of tokens required you can buy the new reward ensembles as soon as they are patched it.

To get the shirt you must get first place and pay 1 token. All the Ensembles currently cost 60 tokens. If you play a lot of matches you will be swimming in more tokens than you can use.

The Scenario

6 players compete to best match a random theme. (though sometimes fewer than 6 will be in the scenario due to disconnects and quitters.)

There are Barber's chairs on both sides of the Scenario room.

There are Ethereal Transmogrification NPCs on both sides of the Scenario Room.

When in the Scenario and not on the stage your character will be in Robes that hide your mog.

There is a short Preparation stage before the event begins, it is about 2 minutes 40 seconds long.

After the Preparation stage ends 2 players will randomly teleported onto the stage and their mogs will be revealed.

When players are on stage You will be able to vote for One of the Two, but if you take to long you will not vote. You have roughly 30 seconds to decide.

When you are on Stage you can not vote.

After several rounds of voting the winners are decided. Additionally if you get first place during the even you can buy a shirt for one token.

Current Themes are Freestyle, Primal Style, Dark and Deadly, Faction Pride, Tabard Time, summer styles, winter wear, ready for battle, fun and flirty, mismatched mayhem, fire and ice, heroes of azeroth, make me laugh, everyday heroes, epic purple, and champions of the light. The next season might add Spook-tacular!, Zen, and Magical Modelling.

Some Themes appear far more often than others. Some appear far less than others. Freestyle was the most common, whereas epic purple, tabard time, and champions of the light were extremely rare in my experience.

The Five Main Pointers to remember.
1. Bring a Shirt, Bring a Tabard, Bring every type of weapon that you can transmog!

There is nothing more embarrassing than showing up to the Tabard time Theme without a Tabard in the Trial of Style. Especially now that there is a Tabard/shirt vendor in the Scenario.

More options will always help you win.

Daggers, Wands, Fist Weapons, and Off-Hands are appearance exclusive and can only be transmogged into items of the same type.

Know what weapons your class can mog and make sure you have them covered. For example Priest can use one-handed maces, daggers, staffs, off-hands, and wands. None of these weapons can be transmogged into each other. (One-handed maces and staff can be transmogged into other weapon types on other classes.)

2. Get. Naked. Strip. Oh... Was that awkward? Unequipping items is a viable strategy.

Sometimes no gloves match your mog.

More options will always help you win, optional clothes is an option!

Sometimes Naked People are funny.

A naked Male Worgen won a Primal Style.

You can show off your tattoos by removing your chest pieces.

Items such as Prydaz, chef-d'œuvre de Xavaric have substantial visual effects that can be removed by unequipping the item.

3. It doesn't have to be transmog.

More options will always help you win.

Quest Items are such as Lunectoplasmes are fair game.

Fishing Rods such as Canne à pêche en arcanite are fair game.

Vendor trash greys such as Capuche entrelacée are fair game.

Holiday items that you have the actual item for are fair game even if their relevant holiday is not ongoing.

Miscellaneous items such as Lance d'Argent are fair game.

There is nothing stopping a Plate wearer from using Mail, Leather, and Cloth items if they have them.

4. Toys and abilities can accentuate your mog!

You Can Not use abilities on stage

You Can Not use transformation toys such as the Orb of Deception.

You Can Use abilities before you are put onto the stage, though this requires guessing correctly.

You Can Use toys such as Sifflet oiseau trans-dimensionnel, Ballon de plage hozen, and Charme de la porte de la mort.

Items and some consumables that have visual effects can be used such as Prydaz, chef-d'œuvre de Xavaric.

More options is still better!

5. Get into Character, Roleplay a little! Use proper emotes

The trial of style interface gives you 3 emotes to choose from, but you can still use all your other emotes normally. Don't let the interface limit you.

Flavor text or in character speech can great improve the impression your mog makes, especially in a theme like "Everyday Heroes."

Don't just spam the dance button, use emotes that don't make it hard to see your character.

When I wrote this Trial of Style Guide my goal was to mostly give info and tips that would remain relevant. I expect that the event will become more and more popular that Blizzard makes some pretty significant changes to it. Most of all I expect/hope that it becomes a monthly event like the Darkmoon fair.

What sort of changes do you think/want to happen for the Trial of Style? Personally, I want the reward token turned into a proper currency and for there to be a token purchasable reroll coin that works for transmog from all old raids and dungeons.

However, I was hoping to find out a bit more about the Themes. I've found a list of them in other places, and most theme titles speak for themselves, but I understand the MC adds a bit of flavour text when the theme is announced, and it might help clarify the more ambiguous categories (eg. "Magical Modeling"?)
