Interestingly, the quest requires you to be a tailor, but the pattern is not BoP. Thus it's possible to get this off the AH, should another tailor for some reason decide they do not want to learn the pattern.

I suppose the pattern will sell for quite a lot because of this, and the fact that most tailors will likely never know about the quest. On the other hand, those same reasons are why you can make quite a lot of gold from making these and selling on the AH.

It is still possible to get this crafted, you just can't get the pattern. So if you want to wear it, you just need to find someone who obtained the pattern while it was available.

Ugh, I just bought this in the AH for 300G. Feel jipped but had no choice. Nobody I knew or no tailor in trade chat knew how to make it. How unlucky of me today. Oh well. On Area 52 US.

This pattern used to be rewarded from the quest Le Sous-marché, available only to Tailors. It started from the quest Les tisseuses d'ombre from Nilith Lokrav at 41,74 in Gorge des Vents brûlants. It was removed in patch 4.0.3a (Cataclysm).

Anyone who still has this pattern from pre-Cataclysm will very likely be able to sell it for a high premium on the AH to collectors.

NOTE: This item is now known to be used in getting the Riddler's Mind Worm, so this now already-hard-to-get item will now cost a gigantic f*** ton. You need to be wearing this to interact with the troll skull in deepholm.

The next clue (which I solved myself) is found in Gnomeregan, near where the Dark Iron Ambassador spawns. There will be more detailed information on this later.

Edit: Why this was downvoted 17 times is completely beyond me. Said nothing that isn't said later. Just saying... Kinda ridiculous people.

Pattern can drop in Searing Gorge from Dark Iron Dwarves (Forge-vapeur sombrefer)

It is needed for the Cauchemar lucide mount (similar to the Ver énigmatique de l’esprit)

EDIT: I would love to know why this is being downvoted. It has been confirmed on Twitter by Devs that is obtainable, and has been found by the Secret Finding Discord for the mobs and location. https://twitter.com/Muffinus/status/903693149746356224

Worth noting, I've only seen this pattern drop off the Dark Iron Steamsmiths. There are swarms of people farming this pattern at the moment and some are saying that it drops off ALL Dark Iron Dwarves and others are sure it is just this one mob. I recommend farming the Steamsmiths exclusively at one of their spawn points, there seem to be about 7-8 different locations and there is about a 5-7 minute respawn time. If possible, check the group finder for a non-CRZ group for more Steamsmith kills.

Both of my recipe drops came from Forge-vapeur sombrefers.

I'd recommend trying to farm on a low population realm because of CRZ. It seems the mobs have a very slow respawn rate (a few minutes after being killed). I'd also recommend checking the prices between the recipe and the crafted item itself on the AH if you are lazy to farm. On my realm the crafted item is roughly 100k cheaper than the recipe itself!

I picked up 4 of these patterns from the Steamsmiths in about 5 minutes. The drop rate is MUCH higher than 3%.

While you're farming the pattern in Gorge des Vents brûlants, you'll get plenty of Rouleau de tisse-mage but Soie des ténèbres is harder to come by and is way overpriced on the AH. Stay in Searing Gorge after you grab the pattern and ~~farm the spiders (Araignée de lave incendiaire and Araignée verrière) to grab 8 Spider Silk. It might take you an extra 30 minutes or so but it'll save you tens of thousands of gold.~~ head to LBRS to kill the spiders. Make your way to spider boss, kill many spiders, leave, reset instance, repeat. You'll have the 8 you need rather quickly, and if you farm any extras, they might sell on the AH to the Azerothian 1%.

Best strategy for farming is to make a group via Premade Custom, mark all the spawn areas, and have everyone call out each time they make a kill. Everyone can loot individually for a mask pattern chance. Thanks to Lizzene-Bloodhoof for the strategy.

EDIT: Keep to a dungeon-sized group, no larger, or this strategy won't work. (thanks for the reminder, dementron)

Got it on first try. Pretty lucky I even got to kill the mob, there was a lot of people farming and camping the mobs. They don't spawn that fast, perhaps 5 minutes respawn timer

So I found it ironic - painfully.

I was on my priest on illidan - grouped with a player from Mal'Ganis. I was a lucky token for them - helped them get four copies of the pattern. Couldn't get it to drop for me despite an hour farming with the two of us in group and quick sniping all the seagsmiths in sight.

Not sure if that drop rate is accurate or I just got lucky, but I got my pattern on the first kill. Good luck...I used a tailor by the way, not sure if that makes a difference on the drop rate.

On the elune/gilneas server the pattern is posted on ah 4 or 5 atm for around 38k gold. So it would be wiser to farm the pattern unless you have gold to throw away.

RNG Gods must've been on my side, for a change; got this within 10m, in Pyrox Flats... was expecting at least one hour of 'farming'.

I just picked 4 patterns in about 80 kills (Dark Iron Steamsmiths only). Now it could just be extreme luck, but I suspect it's more likely that the Wowhead drop rate is out. Bear in mind the pattern drop is new, but the mobs are not. This will affect the stats since, for a long time, the drop rate was 0. It's also possible that the drop rate has been stealthily increased at some point.

Some people mentioned it droping rate could be higher then wowhead so i wanted to comment i got my recipe with my tailor toon at 7 kills too. Could be item being added later on or blizzard buffing messing with wowhead drop rate. I suggest you try to farm recipe instead of AH.

Dropped from Dark Iron Steamsmith at 40. 40 : 49.49 next to rare Rexxus dog. Only farmed 10 minutes and killed about 20 steamsmiths

Dont buy this pattern on AH, its a really fast drop. I got 2 of them by killing Dark Iron Steamsmiths in the north. First droped after the first 3 Mobs, so the main part of getting this is fly to the area.
If you are not playing on extreme High-Population Servers and you do Auctionhousestuff have the Shadoweave Mask in your list or go check your AH if there are many guys that do this. There are still people that buy it for the Lucid Nightmare-Riddle and dont have the materials or the pattern and will spend a few k gold on the Mask to have it fast.

I'd have to agree with Fyeina's comment about not buying this from the Auction House. I was lucky enough to score one of these from Forge-vapeur sombrefer after just 25 kills. So if you have to have every single recipe just for the sake of having every single recipe, save yourself $1450+ (I know that's fairy cheap these days). Thanks for the tip Fyeina.

I didn't even knew this pattern existed until it dropped for my Archaeologist clearing Pyrox Flats Digsite in Searing Gorge. Being a collector, I have a decent control of that I can and cannot craft, but this one is somehow not listed in the unlearned tab for my tailor who haven't learned this pattern.
