The price on these swings rapidly. One week, you can farm 10 of them and sell them for 200g, the next week, you farm 10 and you sell them for 50g.

Farming these, as of the latest patch (2.0.12), is a pain. Either the drop rate has been dramatically decreased below Wowhead's ~18.9% drop rate or I am just unlucky. It took me 60 kills to get 1 stone and the elites that drop it are not a common mob that can be easily farmed back to back.

I'd just like to share that farming 8 of these for my dodge enchant as a lvl 70 prot warrior took me 74 minutes (timed). So have fun! >_<

I just farmed up 8 of these for the dodge enchant for my warrior and experienced a 21.8% drop rate which only differs by ~3% so I'd say the rate hasn't been changed, you just experiencing a streak of "bad luck."

Got 1 from the first guardian. Killed about 5-6 more afterwards but none dropped. Now let's see if anyone will buy it...^^

I have killed quite a few Stone Guardians over the past few days, and have yet to loot one of these. Any ideas where this item drops from these days?

I was just doing Marshal's refuge quest in Un'goro and 5 Guardian Stones dropped for me. I probably only killed 15 Guardians, so it shouldn't be too hard to farm now.

Update: I just had 5 in a row, a miss, then 2 more drop (7/8) and then 6 in a row dropped. Just luck... you never know..

Drop rate:
I farmed these Guardian Stones from the Stone Guardian's in Ungoro Crater and took note of the drop rate out of my own curiousity. I'm almost afraid to post the results as they were amazing.
The first hour I received 31.
The second hour I received 36.
So, 67 in 2 exactly 2 hours. Along with the Stones, I received swords, helms, etc with list prices from 1gold to 3.5 gold, tons of grey items worth another 10gold (vendor price).

Conclusion: I love farming these! The Stone Guardians are neutral so they won't gang up on you and won't attack while you rest. There are no other NPC's either, so it's safe. The range of items dropped is awesome: I even got Mithril Lockboxes!

From my experience, I'd say you should expect to make 30+ gold per hour farming these.

FYI: I had several streaks of 3 GS drops, 1 streak of 4 in a row. I also had a bunch of streaks without any GS drops.

Just killed all the guardians twice and got 2 stones in total.
So not really candy drops but pretty ok as an 85 there easy to kill :)

If you're looking to farm Guardian Stones the drop rate really isn't that bad. I found that as a lvl 52 Hunter I could usually 2-shot them. The northern area where the town used to be is pretty nice, by the time I got all the way to the end (inside the cave) the ones out front had started to respawn. My guess is they dropped roughly 1/5 kills. In the (about) 10 minutes I spent up there 9 dropped for me.

Just posting a brief update on these, since there's been no new post in years. Which is understandable because nothing has really changed.

These still drop from the Stone Guardians in Marshal's Refuge (including cave). Wowhead has the drop rate at 20%, which fit my experience. The Stone Guardians respawn very fast. I got the 12 Guardian Stones I needed in 10-15 minutes.

While farming Stone Guardians for Guardian Stones, I got the following in about 30 minutes or so:
Guardian Stone x26
Thorium Ore x46 (from mining the 'corpses')
Badly Broken Dark Spear x2 (second drop had to be left abandoned)

No need to farm this anywhere else besides /way #78 45.6 6.4 Stone Guardian

The mob density is good and the respawn is decent. You basically can kill all the mobs infront the cave, then inside the cave, run out and do this again without much downtime. 20% drop rate sounds about right. The current buyout price of 250gold is ok imo, if its way higher Id recommend to farm it yourself.
