Sold for 1000g on US Mal' Ganis by myself on the Horde AH on December 20th, 2008. Awesome recipe worth farming depending on your server. Oddly got it by just running LBRS by accident on my druid.

Since I really don't see one, I'll write out a simple guide for farming the plans.

At level 80, you can simply walk past all the mobs in this instance, and if you do inadvertently aggro something, even poorly geared you'll be able to get out. Unless you're really unlucky.

Anyway, I went into BRS a total of 6 or so times looking for this guy, he spawned twice. I don't mean to brag, I've had really bad luck too. Both times he was in the same place. That's not really indicative of *all* of his spawn locations, but I'm going with it.

Each time was in the little four-corner tent-thing nearest the giant boulder. (See screenshot.) You should be able to run to the ledge where you see me, wait a moment for the mobs to appear in the distance, and mouse over looking for him.

Initially I was using Elixirs of Dream Vision to scout around. I found they were totally unnecessary, seeing as (I think) he spawns within simple viewing distance. Still, the money I spent I feel was well spent cause those elixirs are awesome.

For anyone hoping to farm this;

I was attempting to farm this for a few weeks. When I got bored of leveling, I would run in and out until I hit the instance lock, looking for him and then pulling half the instance back to the portak with me.

I got attuned to BWL and MC during this time, and even got most of my guild attuned to both of them.

In total, I had seen Bannok five times by my first entering of BRS. On the faithful day, I simply had a good feeling. I did not skip every pack as I had the hundred of other times. I slowly cleared each one, taking my time as life drained from their eyes. I entered the hallway and hit my targetting macro. With a mighty call of "Arcanite Reaper! HOOOOOO!" I watched his nameplate appear.

Right there, not ten yards from me he stood. The mighty Bannok. He was tired of running and hiding his recipe. He was ready to fave me head on, he knew the length of the corpserun, and he did not care. I saw the resolve on his face; on this day, our little game of cat and mouse would end.

By the blade of my new Axe, dropped from the mightly bosses of Throne of Tides, I gave him a warriors death. I did not let him die slowly, I killed him with a mighty shockwave, instantly ending his life. And from his hand it fell; the plans for the Arcanite Reaper.

I now hold it, I am now.... a warrior....

This EPIC recipe is dropped by Bannok Grimaxe,a rare elite that can only be found deep in Blackrock Spire
If you are level 70 or more you can farm this guy easily.
When you enter the instance move right and then keep moving a bit.When,go up the ramp,turn right,keep moving forwand for a bit until you stop around here.Now a trick:you can go right and jump in the lava,don't worry,there is no fall damage,only the lava damage that ticks for 600 every 2 seconds.
There is a ramp there where you can walk to safety.There is one Unfired Plate Gauntlets in the ramp too.
Congratulations you have saved yourself quite a lot of walking time and you are now in his spawn way.Now you can just spawn "/target Bannok Grimaxe" around the area in the map above.And if you didn't find him(he's a rare spawn after all) you can save yourself a long way back to exit:just remove all your armor(you can make a naked set using the Equipment Manager to make that faster) and pull a lot of mobs,eventually you will die and your body will be just a few seconds away from the entrance.You can now reset the instance and try over and over.
Using the method above it takes around 4 minutes to my level 85 enter Blackrock Spire,see if he spawns and kill him,or kill myself.
But be prepared for a good grind,right now i have:
44 resets
09 times where I saw him(20% of the times)
No Arcanite Reaper recipe drops
I can not think how hard it was to get this recipe back in vanilla,after a long time LFM in trade chat and killing mobs all the way here to just a 1.8%(spawn rate + chance to get the drop) and i really feel how epic this axe was back them

Edit:finally that bastard gave me my plans.it took me nearly 80 resets and 17 kills to get my recipe,and after this grind i have only one thing to say:

I never knew where this actually dropped. I picked this up on my DK back in Wrath from the AH for 50g or so. I've been running alts into LBRS/UBRS the past couple of days, and I'm sitting on four copies of this. Never realized they were supposed to be THAT rare.

I sold one of them to someone in trade for 1k. Sending two of them to two BS alts, one mine and one my friend's. Will probably try to sell the other one as well. I still have quite a few runs left to get our alts leveled out of there, so who knows, I could end up with more of them.

Not sure how long this has been like this, but nobody seems to be aware so I will--

I went to BRS today to finally try my hand at getting this pattern and when I walked in NPC Scan went off showing 4 rare spawns inside (Bannok was not among them). I looked them up and determined that they were nowhere near the entrance so it wasn't based on proximity.

I killed a few mobs, ran out and reset. When I went back in I got an alert that a single rare was up. I went in, killed a few mobs, came out and reset again. This time it said Bannok was up.

So, I would suggest using NPCScan as it will tell you as you make your way in (within a few steps) if he is there or not without having to use all the other tricks listed here. Makes for quick resets, and with the new 10 instances per hour this gives many more chances at the pattern. Just make sure you kill a few mobs at the beginning or the instance won't reset (technically one would be enough). Anyhow, good luck!

Edit--OK so after I posted I realized that resetting NPCScan every run would be a pain--BUT--I figured if NPCScan could pick him up from the entrance, then /tar should be able to as well--and it did! So, NPCScan or /tar macro will work from the front door.

As the young (and handsome) worgen joined the elite unit entering the lower Dark Spire, he entered the dark chamber. The Tank was instantly surrounded and behind him stood a lone imposing figure... Bannok Grimaxe , watching and waiting to make his move. The young (and dashing) worgen being a 62 lvl rogue suddenly appeared behind Bannok Grimaxe, and in a lone battle was able to defeat the tyrant. As he inspected the foul Lords clothing he found a set of plans, that all of the elite team members passed upon as they raided the dead corpses for coins. "What is this?" asked the young (and curious) worgen. In a pub he asked a blacksmith nonchalantly about a rumor of set of plans for a Arcanite Reaper, to his amazement, the Dwarf choked on his ale! He had actually found a treasure! So yes, in the year of Azeroth 2014 on the 6th month of Juno on the Sixth day, these plans do exist, and the stars did shine down on a young Worgen Rogue! Happy Hunting!

The NPC is still in game, just farmed LBRS and saw him sitting near the tents.
Will upload a picture if you need proof, or you can just go find him yourself.

After reading several comments here I would like to add my story. It took 15 lockouts (ten in an hour then I goofed off on an alt for an hour) for this to drop with three Bannok kills before he dropped the recipe. I was not able to target Bannok from the entrance so I actually had to go into the first room of LBRS to target him and once I did I just jumped in the lava and there is a small ramp that takes you right to him. I just ran through the mobs to get out the two times he did not drop the recipe. My drop chance seems a little high compared to others that posted so don't count on three kills. Now I still have to farm Volnak out in front of the instance for another recipe.

Well, after many years of using wowhead, I felt I needed to add a comment.

RNG is RNG.

For so many comments stating how quick they got the recipe, I submit my story to tell the opposite.

I did the /target macro set up. I walked into the instance and turned left, went thru the hall way, kept spamming the macro, did the ledge jump when he was there.

After around 21 kills of the guy, I finally got it. It took over 7 or 8 lock-outs (10 resets once i exited the instance per lock out? not totally sure).

Don't sweat it if it is taking to long. The recipe is there.

It is RNG!

The rare NPC which drop this pattern (and most of the other rares in LBRS) can as others have noted easily be /targeted with a macro without running the whole instance, seeing as it is a floor-based dungeon (i.e. you can target the NPC if it is beneath/above you, and thus makes the instance fairly "short").

One alternative is to either use the macro included in the addon "Silverdragon" (which includes a /target X of every rare in your current zone) or just use the macro below for targeting this guy (also included are macros for some of the other rares in LBRS, simply remove the line which includes the others if they are not needed - for me I also did a transmog run and got everything I needed from here);

/target Bannok Grimaxe
/target Crystalfang
/target Spirestone battle lord
/target Spirestone lord magus
/target Spirestone butcher
/target Ghok bashguud

Simply walk into the instance, take a few turns and face towards the big ogres on the other side - then click the macro. If no hits, simply reset. Several hits may appear at the same time, so if you are farming for only one of them I suggest using only one of the /target-macro.

I've had 4 rares in one run (including Bannok). Also, to quickly reset after jumping down and killing Bannok (he seem to spawn 1/8-10 times for me, but this is pure RNG obviously) simply click "ESC" and go to "HELP" and choose "Character stuck" which will kill you with 0 durability loss and you will respawn at the entrance - walk out and reset instance. Rinse, repeat.

Seeing as how this Entry hasn't been updated in nearly 5 years, I figured I'd add some information that might be useful to anyone preparing to Farm these Plans.

First, it only drops from Grimaxe. The notations above indicate the Plans only drop on Normal, and I have yet to test whether setting the Raid on Heroic would prevent it from dropping. I can state with certainty that it does drop in Normal, as I just looted it from Grimaxe today, not once, but twice, both on Normal. Setting it on Heroic does seem to make Grimaxe spawn more often, but that will require further testing as well.

Note that Grimaxe has a limited number of Spawn Points, all in the same area, on the same level, only one of which is out of sight behind a corner from the others. He is always sitting down on a circular rug. The /tar command can pick up all but one of his Spawn points from the entryway, and all of them can be scanned if you simply move down the first flight of stairs, left into the short tunnel, then right onto the main ramp leading down into LBRS itself. If you can see the lava down below when looking over the ledge, you're close enough to /tar Grimaxe wherever he is, if he is there. No guarantees, I've had him spawn 7 times in 12 runs, and not at all in 10 or more. >>EDIT: If you see a Firebrand Grunt sitting or kneeling on one of those circular rugs, Grimaxe is NOT in that Instance. It's either Grimaxe or a Grunt on a rug, not both.

An important point not listed anywhere on this Entry is that the Plans will drop for anyone. You do not have to be a Blacksmith to get these Plans. I looted the pattern twice in a row with a Warlock who had Skinning and Tailoring as Professions. As noted above, the Plans are not BoP, and can be Traded/Sold through the Auction House or mail system. As a suggestion, combining a run for these Plans with a run for the Arcanite Champion Plans gives a good shot at collecting both for either Learning or Selling them, and both Plans go for a hefty price on the right Server, although you might have to be a Blacksmith to get the Champion Plans. There is a Question on that, and it's another thing I am currently testing and I will update on when possible. >>EDIT: **CONFIRMED** you do not have to be a Blacksmith for the Arcanite Champion Plans to drop! Looted them today, 25 Jul 21 on the same Warlock I've been running tests with.

Any Character above level 35 should not have any real issue with Grimaxe or any other LBRS mobs, but use caution the first time to make sure. Out of 15 kills on Grimaxe today, 2 dropped the Plans, so it's not a crushing Grind. Jumping down into the lava works, but using some form of Slowfall works even better. Angle yourself towards the area where Grimaxe spawns, activate it, then run/jump over the ledge and coast down to the tented area below. You'll bypass the Lava damage and be able to look for Grimaxe as you drop in for a visit.

So I'm farming both the Plans : Faucheuse en arcanite as well as Plans : Championne en arcanite from Seigneur Wyrmthalak and of the so far 30 runs of killing just Bannok Hache-Sinistre and Seigneur Wyrmthalak, Grimaxe showed up 9 times before I got the Plans : Faucheuse en arcanite. Wish I could leap over to the ogres with my warrior instead of dropping into the lava to shorten it up even more than the 5-6 minutes it is taking me to get to the end. Oh well. The struggle continues for the Plans : Championne en arcanite I guess.
