Guarm on lfr seems to drop between 30 & 60.

If you have the Helarjar Landing: Vrekt WQ you can kill Vaettfang over and over for these as long as you don't kill the other Valarjar in the area to complete the quest.

But he only drops one or two at a time so it would take a while, but it is possible to farm this way.

As far as we're aware, this is working as intended. From what I can see Helya-related World Quests are designed to drop Soul Fragments, but only while the WQ is available (in other words, they shouldn't be dropping if you kill the same mobs while the WQ isn't available).

These drop per difficulty so you can run ToV on multiple difficulties to double/triple dip every week.

There seem to be 3 world quests with mobs awarding fragments while the WQ is active.
1. Débarquement des Helarjar : Gris-Fonds in Azsuna
2. Débarquement des Helarjar : côte de Roc-Lointain in Highmountain
3. Débarquement des Helarjar : Vrekt in Stormheim

Seems they have fixed this. I only got maybe 20 souls fragments and then nothing for about 5 minutes. Darn.

TL/DR: a fairly quick farm to get a few more fragments - this used to be a 2min spawn but it's now down to 60 seconds.

After casually pursuing the 1000 Valarjar Soul Fragment quest for Odyn, the Trial of Valor: The Lost Army, over what seemed a too long of a time, I noticed how close i was to completion. So, with only 142 Soul Fragments left to get I decided that enough was enough and I would actually farm the last few I needed.

With that in mind I took the advice of others and went to the one spot you could do this: Helajar Landing for the Helarjar Landing: Vrekt World Quest.
This is where you will find Vaettfang, the one "rare" spawn mob / mini-boss.

If you forego killing the normal mobs and just run up the hill to his spawn point you can farm him over and over for an average reliable drop of 2 Valarjar Soul Fragments per spawn kill. * meaning you won't always get that but he will still drop them over and over, as long as you have not killed all the other NPCs for the quest.

The really good news is, his spawn timer is only 60 seconds (7.1.5 / Jan 25th 2017)

*thanks to all who promoted this as a farm method. Some of you maniacs did this on the 2min spawn timer for the whole 1000 fragments (which i said NO WAY i would do) LoL

You might get 2 or 3 while the world quest is active, but once you complete the world quest forget it. They don't drop any more. Even though the guys show as quest guys for the quest when you roll your mouse on them and have the little circle under them indicating they are quest objectives. They will NOT drop them after you complete the world quest, just tested this on my DK killed about 40 of them after the WQ. I only got the 3 from the first 3 guys I killed during the WQ.

This is another of Blizzard's insidious little plots to get more money by making quests that can really only be completed in groups, in this case only in the raid. So instead of making it feasible for a solo kind of player to finish this, they make sure that 10, 20, 40 people are paying them or going to their raids to keep up their raid attendance. A lot of people, the majority I'd say, don't care to raid all the time, don't have time or desire to do it, will ONLY raid to complete the quests that Blizzard forces them into, and play with 1 to 3 friends on any kind of consistent basis. And many many people have had bad experiences with so-called uber-jerks in raid groups, that's a very well known reason people don't bother with it. If you're doubting that, try your own search for "percentage of people who actually raid in WoW" and see what you come up with.

It's pathetic and devious how Blizzard did this with a LOT of quests in Legion, in particular how they are forcing people into raids and dungeons to complete their professions. It tells me they thought long and hard about how to generate more income because so many people are leaving WoW. And IMO if they keep doing this nonsense they will keep losing people.

Vaettfang has been removed from the requirements for Get Vrekt and no longer seems to spawn around 73,87 in Stormheim.

Update: Went back on 4/25/18 after finishing the quest for the soul fragments and he is back on the WQ and spawning. Not sure if it was temporary or a glitch or what? Maybe he's just gone when you have the soul fragment quest?

I got Fragments from Mythic and Heroic in one lockout, so it doesn't look like this is difficulty-locked anymore.

so there is apparently no way to check how many you have? it is not listed as a currency on the character menu under legion, clicking Odin (quest turn in guy) doesn;t even tell you how far you've progressed... even after obtaining some of the currency, clicking the currency name gives a flavor text bar saying what they are, but not how many you have. This seems to be a ridiculous oversight but, even more surprising is there's no mention of this here, anywhere?

I started farming for the set when I saw another hunter with the transmog while camping Huolon. Thought I'd add some info that might help. If you can run/solo the raid, Guarm and Helya will both drop the fragments. Guarm will drop between 30 to 60 fragments, and Helya will drop about 100+ fragments. Furthermore, they will drop each time you run LFR, Normal, and Heroic mode in a week. I managed to get 530 fragments in a week alone doing this but the average is around 450 fragments.
As a Lv120 BM hunter with iLvl 399, I managed to solo everything up to Heroic Guarm. I had to upgrade to iLvl 414 in order to beat Heroic Helya. (Mythic Guarm was impossible for me to solo due to the debuff mechanic and I couldn't get the line of sight tactic working.)
The quest will only give you the normal color version of the set. But when I beat Heroic Helya, I immediately got the full Heroic recolor of the set. Bosses might drop individual pieces as well but I heard some pieces like the shoulders can only be obtained through the set.
It's worth noting that initially I had hoped to camp for Vaettfang as well, but the WQ never popped up for me at all before I got the set.

I’m disabled with bad hand control so I’m not that great so I leave hard quests until the next xpac is out. I started this quest during the middle of BFA and somehow got 250 ish Valarjar Soul Fragments, but I couldn’t solo everything so I waited until Shadowlands and now this quest is do able for me but I can’t find any Valarjar Soul Fragments. What do I do or can you refresh my memory on how to get Valarjar Soul Fragments please?

Im disabled with bad hand control so I’m not that great so I leave hard quests until the next xpac is out. I started this quest during the middle of BFA and somehow got 250 ish Valarjar Soul Fragments, but I couldn’t solo everything so I waited until Shadowlands and now this quest is do able for me but I can’t find any Valarjar Soul Fragments. What do I do or can you refresh my memory on how to get Valarjar Soul Fragments please?
