"Ball & Jacks", "Jacks & Ball", or simply "Jacks" is a game played with several "Jacks", tiny spiky objects, much akin to Caltrops.

You play the game by putting the jacks on a hard surface, then take turns throwing the ball lightly up into the air from just above the surface, then try to as quickly grab one jack, before the ball bounces, and then have to catch it before it bounces again.

You win by collecting all available jacks, usually between 5-10, without getting a foul. A foul can be one of several things, such as;
Missing the ball, or letting it bounce more than once.
Failing to pick up the correct number of jacks.
Picking up the wrong number of jacks.
Dropping a jack that you've picked up.
Accidentally moving a jack from its placement on the ground (this is called "tipping").

So this item being one, single jack, with no ball, isn't really useful.
