As far as I can tell this item is currently bugged, using it in water will cause it to be consumed but you will instantly fall back into the water and lose the buff.

Moving or using any abilities immediately after using this item will cause it to fail. Give it a second after using and once your gliding over the water feel free to move & steer.

Bugged for me too, activating this in water just bumps me up and it instantly dissapears. no, im not pressing anything else :O

As others said, if you do anything straight away after using this item, it will simply disappear. And even if you don't, there is a high chance that it still will anyway. Obviously NOT working as intended right now :)

Water walking causes it to fail. Levitate causes it to fail. Moment causes it to fail. Abilities cause it to fail. Being mounted causes it to fail. It can't be used in combat.

The only way to use this item reliably is to kill all surrounding mobs, clear all buffs and debuffs, and while treading water at least 10 yards deep, delicately click the item. Then, as you traverse the water, lament the fact that you didn't just use a water walking mount instead.

If your camera is pointed down at all when you use it, it will despawn, as it can only go on the surface of the water, and when you first use the item, you don't have the surface "stickiness" you have when using a water mount or water walking. If at any point you try to go underwater with it, it will despawn.

After initially thinking "urgh, what is the point in this other than suck up valuble resources", I've realised this is invaluble for engineers (or indeed anybody) who hasn't had the time to get one of the fishing mounts that walks over water.

The large inland sea in Tiragarde Sound?
Whoosh, skim over it in under a minute

The area around north eastern Stormsong Valley?
Boom, skip across it in no time at all.

Islands in southern Zuldazar?
Zoom, there in no time at all.

Remember!

Avoid hostile aquatic life!
Careful when steering...use the left and right keys or strafe, careful with the mouse or you may dismount!
Have fun with it!

Surprised no one has stated the movement speed when using this: 325%. It's also worth mentioning that this has an 83% uptime (25-second use with a 30-second cooldown).
