More then likely a reference to "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?", a science fiction novel by Philip K. Dick and the inspiration to the movie Blade Runner.

The biggest let down of this pattern isn't the cost of the materials or the end result, it's that those two elements combined, when faced with an identical small pet (Wood Frog: http://www.wowhead.com/?item=11027) that only costs 1g, becomes something of a let down.

Mechanical Squirrels are not only unique as far as that model is concerend (at least with small pets), it's a unique texture as well. But for this, when the Darkmoon Faire was added, this rare pet effectively was replaceable by a far cheaper and otherwise identical one.

This pet is very uncommon, and before the Wood Frog was introduced it was the only frog availible as a minipet. It's quite sad Blizzard didn't keep it that way. Only comfort is it still has a unique name and background, and it goes into the collection of mechanical pets together with the yeti, squirrel, chicken, bombling and lil'smokey.

This thing is a money maker.

Sold it for 3000g.

Found it in the chest dropped by Sir John Mithril in the Gurubashi Arena. Funny thing is it was the twelfth and final chest I needed, so I got the gold and the achievement and the trinket.

I ran across a reference to this and I have a question:

Just looking at the drop table, this is either a world drop with a rate of 1 in 100k to 1 miljon on level 50+ mobs in the "old world" or all those are just misinterpreted drops and the only drop is 1% off dragon bosses.

Farming blackwing lair for an expected time of two years sure is alot.

The Dark coffer, as mentioned in an earlier comment has no engineering patterns at all in its drop table, so that is a dead end I guess.

One pet and schematic I will most likely never get.

Just saying, if you see this schematic for less than 10k.. buy it.

I've made at least 150 toads and they have all sold within 1-2 days, usually at around 300g each. Thats some profit there (selling 5 at a time btw).

I have a habit of checking the auction house for any engineering recipes I don't have, and I very rarely find anything, but one day, this beautiful schematic was up, and it had a buyout price of 10 gold. I was one happy engineer that day.

This schematic, like others, can also be found in chests throughout Azeroth including the Arena Treasure Chest in Stranglethorn vale where I found one.

Unfortunately I didn't have my wowhead client running at the time so I am posting this loot spot here.

I got this on my paladin(alt) i had engineering on my main so i mail it to him and i learned it. The problem was i didnt know what this scematic really worth. A few days later i saw a guys selling it on trade for 15k. I didnt really need the schematic and i was really mad i wasted so much money. My advice is to sell it. The gold you will make by making the toads will be significly less than the gold you will make by sellibg the schematic.

It's rather rare to find this schematic these days as it's a world drop from vanila/classic WoW zones.
