This volume drops from the Black Guard Swordsmiths that spawns when you loot the blacksmith plans from Undead Side in Stratholme
The mob spawns even if you are not a blacksmith, although you need to be a blacksmith of atleast 300, to start the quest.

The quest you get from combining Top and Bottom Half of the volume awards 500 reputation with Shen'dralar (550 for human).

Can anyone confirm this still drops? Done over 30 runs now and it hasn't dropped once. I am 450 BS.

Just killed him second time & it dropped. 80 DK 450 BS.

It just dropped for me too. Hunter lvl80, NON-blacksmith.

I'm a MAGE lvl 51 non Blacksmith, and this item dropped today, while I killed that boss at first time (because of that I stay here searching what can I do with this).
Other item found in that dungeon was the "Book of the Paragon" - a relic, not useful to a MAGE.
I never before ran in the Stratholme, and as far I can see, both these rare items are unusable to me. C'est la vie.

I had one of these volumes that I got from the auction house, in 4.3, and it vanished from my bank. According to a GM ticket:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting the World of Warcraft Game Master Department.

Unfortunately, there is a known issue where the Enchanted Thorium Platemail volumes were not all correctly removed from the game. Please note that these volumes and the associated quests no longer exist in game and cannot be used to complete these quests as they were all deprecated when The Shattering was released. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but these quests can no longer be completed and all of these volumes were supposed to be removed from the game.
