This is a currency for items from Dealer Vexil who is interactable with you if you turn in a Restored Obsidian Key with Igys the Believer, of the Worldbreakers faction (instead of with Wrathion or Sabellian). There is a count of 10 turn-ins to reform Morchok at this turn-in (not sure what that does yet), similar to the "defenses prepared" for Sabellian.

Completing this earned a Twilight Strongbox and the item Worldbreaker Membership, which grants the 1-day title "The Worldbreaker." and a quest, Same as the Old Boss to kill an ogre posing as a black dragon. This quest rewarded 25 of the Magmotes, and I also received 6 from the strongbox.

The Slumbering Worldsnail Shell mount is sold for 1000 of these magmotes from Dealer Vexil, who also sells the Worldbreaker Membership (consumed on use) for 20x magmotes, and some rum used for a quest as described in a comment on the Worldbreaker Membership / Dealer Vexil pages.

I don't know for sure that the vendor can't be interacted with without the temporary title -- they might be neutral to everyone, this was just the order I discovered this in.

Vexil also sells Orb of the Obsidian Scale

After doing the above (but notably not before, not sure if thats random), more magmotes dropped for me while killing Lava Hatchlings for the Explosive Ash engineering quest. Getting 4-6 per kill, thinking its tied to the Worldbreaker title effect.

Was able to farm all 1000 needed in about 2.5hrs in a group of 5.

Prior to the Magmote grind, I was Key farming all over the Citadel, so here's a tip to expedite Magmote farming.

Grind in the Vault if possible (no competition).
Most people are topside. The Vault required comparatively less 'hunting' for groups as the respawn, even on one half, was very fast. Also, I'm convinced the Rock Elemental looking (non-elites) down in the Vaults (Right wing, facing Spider Rare) drop more than the actual Elites and they spawn in solid numbers in that wing.

We would clear the Right Wing and almost always, there'd be a partial respawn as we cleared. If not, we just went to the Left wing, killing everything and the Rare that spawns there periodically.

During this grind, I also ended up with 20ish combined keys with a few hundreds Fragments left (those Frames...), 2 profession recipes, a Transmog-only drop, 30+ Signets for rep and tons of Greens.

I would not be surprised if they nerf the drop rate, or up the cost soon. Seemed a bit too easy/fast so get in there soon and tough it out! Tons of groups going.

These require you to have the Worldbreaker Membership debuff & title active, which you will lose upon death. When you have it, the drop rate is relatively high - the vault in Obsidian Citadel is a good place to farm them as you can get quick respawns.

Do these disappear when you log out? I took a break after getting Wrathion to True Friend and farming motes and when I logged back in for soup event they were gone I had over 200 of them. I did not sell them and I still had the Worldbreakers membership active.

A low stress method is to join one of the large raid groups farming the elemental storms, when there is a storm in the citadel area of waking shores. This is going on constantly right now, just search "storm" in group finder. A dedicated group or 2x4 is probably faster but this is very chill and low stress. The magmotes drop in raid group no problem.

In order to be able to loot these, you need to have the title earned by using a Abonnement de Brise-monde, which may be found inside a Cache du crépuscule. This item is the reward from turning in a Gantelets de plaques mâchefer with Igys la Croyante instead of one of the other three options (Irion, Sabellian and Maître-forge Bazentus - great comments on this whole setup in the comment section for all of these, including Igys la Croyante). The Gantelets de plaques mâchefer can be prepared from different fragments after having completed the weekly World Quest 'Keys of Loyalty (regardless of whether you turn it in with Wrathion or Sabellian (Les clés de la loyauté and Les clés de la loyauté).

When solo, I found the fastest farm was the Oisillon de laves near 32, 55 at the top of the hill. There's a nice empty area there where you can fight them without pulling anything else. There are 4-5 perched nearby, and another 4 or so that fly overhead (you can pull the nearest ones with a ranged ability, and the others just by flying up near them). Not much downtime at all.

Note that the larger Lava Phoenix does not drop any Magmotes.

Ok so while farming for the Scrappy Worldsnail I noted a few things that weren't previously mentioned here.

Use Clé en obsidienne restaurée with Igys la Croyante and loot Cache du crépuscule which can contain more Abonnement de Brise-monde
You can keep one Abonnement de Brise-monde in your inventory and multiple Cache du crépuscule in your bags so if you need to stop farming and lose the 2 day buff you can just use these instead.
The buff paused while I was offline
Cache du crépuscule contains 4-6x Magmon so I may have looted 50-60ish from handing in keys alone.
Rare spawns do not drop Magmon
Elemental Invasion specific mobs do not drop Magmon
The bosses that spawn from turning in 10/20 keys do not drop Magmon (don't go out of your way to kil them unless you just wanna for the sake of it)

I farmed mobs in the citadel, rounded up groups of 2-3 elites + extras and would loot ~10 Magmotes per group. Kill the shielder first and stun the enrage if you can't dispel.

I did it solo in about 4 hours. The best place for me was the level above the dungeon entrance where a few Qalashi Dusttwisters are. They drop on average 3 magmotes. However, in the small cave there are Enraged Embers that drop about 15 per group spawn. As they all quickly respawn, you can kind of continue without stopping. In addition to the 1000 magmotes, I also farmed 15 obsidian keys, a toy and much more.
