This item is going to be a hot ticket for Leatherworkers when it's released - it'll net them a lot of money. I know that I'll want one as soon as possible, and my friends will as well. I would personally expect some high prices on the Auction House for the materials, so either wait it out for them to go down, catch them early, or save up your gold.

Like somebody else said on the forums:

(existing) carrot + (existing) glove enchant + (existing) spurs = 10%
(new) riding crop = 10%

and the latter does not stack with any of the former. The idea seems to be that you no longer need to take up spots in your bag for just riding boots and riding gloves and a trinket; now you just have the one trinket. Sounds good to me.

Carrot/spurs/gloves gives 9.25%, so the trinket is slightly faster. If you can stack two of them, that would rock.

* This trinket does NOT stack with other mount-speed increasing items.
* This trinket does NOT stack with mount speed increasing effects from spells such as Crusader Aura.
* It does give approximately 1.5% more mounted speed than the Enchant Gloves - Riding Skill/Mithril Spurs/Carrot on a Stick combo (and saves two bag spots).

This has been tested with visual comparison to other players with varying degrees of speed enhancing items as well as with speed measuring in-game mods.

Just got this bad boy made. Cost me about 150g in materials but IMO it's worth it just for the extra bag space and not having to switch around so many items every time you mount. Highly recommended :)

This is quite usefull for skilling up Leatherworking. It doesn´t sell for much more than the price of the mats, but at least it sells which isn´t true for most of the other craftable crap.

It's exactly the same as Riding Crop, but the thing is that they don't stack because blizzard has said that mount speed increase is capped at 10%.

This doesn't make the Riding Crop obsolete though because impatient people will buy one anyway. The quest reward above requires 300 Riding Skill (5,000 gold) and completing a quest line. The Skybreaker Whip is for the patient.

If you don't want to download a mod to automatically switch to this when you mount up, use the following macro when you mount and when you dismount.

/equip {trinket you usually put in your primary slot}
/equip Riding Crop
/use {your mount}
/dismount

This will equip the Riding Crop when you mount up and equip your regular trinket when you dismount.

this is a fairly good trinket esspc. wen your running from the opposite faction sadly it dosnt stack with any other movement speed increasing effecst spurs-carrot on a stick exc also this is the best thing and cheapst way get your LW from 360-365 till you can make battle drums rest is alot of gold due to primals i helped a frined get his up they sale for 250g on my realm since im a 375 skinner and an enchanter the mats were fairly easy to get so i made gold and he got his leather working up i wish the rest of you luck on leather working and running from oppisite faction ;)

As of Beta Build 8820, players are unable to apply the riding crop "enchant" to mounts that have already been "learned" (aka they are already in the Pet sub tab of Mounts). There is a new build coming out today, but it is unknown at the time of this post as to what changes will be in store.

I dont understand why they cant just add a new slot to the character screen... for riding crops/swift flight charms/etc. Its really stupid being trinkets because it forces you to use macros or mods to make any use of it. Making them an enchant per mount is also pretty stupid, especially if it wont work on mounts you already have.

It's easy with Outfitter... you can have it change your complete outfit (or just the parts you want) automatically for many situations, like swimming, riding, BG, and all kind of class specific stances... battle stance, aspect of the hawk, stealth, etc

Also, this is stupid now:
- Requires Level 69
- Equip: Increases mount speed by 10%. Does not work for players above level 70.

So it's no good for ppl leveling up to 70 (well, 69)... and it will be useless to any1 leveling WotLK. wtf?

since the patch the druid swift flight form quest gives the trinket that reduces the mana cost of casting swift flight form used to be like a riding crop for druids form

can anyone tell/confirm if riding crop effects flightform/ swift?

druids can use this in any form it is a riding crop. you know what a crop is? u hit your mount and it goes fraster.. Now tell me how funny it whould be for a druid in flight form to be flying around spanking his or herself with a riding crop! You nuaghty druid!

I just want to say that I'm kind of annoyed that they made this not work past lvl 70 w/o anything to replace it... I still do a lot in Outland and having a non-epic flyer (always broke) really sucks without any kind of speed enhancement (not a HUGE differance I know, but still, anything is better than nothing)

Just wanted to confirm this. I thought I had read somewhere that the official changes regarding the riding crop weren't in effect, and there was some confusion amongst my guild. I tested this out utilizing Fubar_SpeedFu, and have confirmed that the Riding Crop does not change anything above Level 70.

Hope this helps in case someone had the same confusion I did!

This used to be extraordinarily valuable when you were capped at level 70. It still has an advantage if you plan to stay in the battlegrounds for level 69 and 70. If you are like me you will be there a long time and get plenty of use out of this. But for players leveling straight to 80 it has no value. With the achievements such as "Me and the Cappin' Makin' it happen" http://www.wowhead.com/?achievement=158or or "Alterac Grave Robber" http://www.wowhead.com/?achievement=221 this gives you quite an advantage to get the initial flag or grave yard. It is also a necessity if you are a level 70 twink who loves to chase down runners in the field of strife. At level 60 I had the carrot, the glove enchant and the mithril spurs on alternative lesser gear so I could use better enchants during heavy battles. I paid a price in spell damage, armor and stamina and intellect when I equipped this gear to chase down a horde runner. But it set me apart from the other players and was well worth the price. Just another part of playing the game. In regards to the comment about replacing this crop with a spell, Blizzard should let us choose how we want to play with the current items rather than changing the game when the weaker ones complain that it is too difficult to equip and unequip gear for a speed boost.

They are removing speed increase items because they're lowering lvl requirements on mounts and increasing speed on Rare flying mounts. Therefor everyone will be going faster except those with epic flying.

I managed to finally find this pattern when I was lvl 80 and was horrified that I could not only NOT use it but that it only functioned for ONE bloody level... Since D2 has Blizz unfairly skewed towards the tank class and F'ed pretty much everyone else (but not so much that everyone would notice) and in Wow Blizz just hates LWs in general and favoring the engineers (3 mounts and 6/7 pets, portals, resurrections devices, polymorph... basically any/all cool skills are available you can have through engineering) why can't I as a LW make wings as a flying mount, or leather voodoo dolls to inflict damage at range to my current target, why do I have to beg or buy the engineers pets on the AH (and LilSmokey and Petbombling are now salable) .. Im not giving up LW for engineering, that just gives blizz what they want. I WANT BETTER STUFF FOR LW!) Get on it Blizzard. CJ

Still in game. Effect still multiplicative.
200% ground speed turns into 220%.
380% flight speed turns into 418%.
I didn't have all the mats, but I had an Alchemist in my guild.. I paid around 200g for the mats I needed at the time. Already had most, since I'm also a skinner.
So... to me, it's beneficial for capped characters of 69-70. Also, this can also be used to increase movement speed within arenas & battlegrounds if you are appropriately capped. Other than that, save your mats and such for otherwise.
However, there could potentially be a niche for these for said capped characters who don't have a Lv.3+ guild and/or like the additional speed in PvP battlegrounds/etc.

Prepared the required materials with great enthusiasm and had to find 3 crafters along the way but when I equipped it, I sadly realized it doesn't have any effect :( (I guess it doesn't stack with guild buff). It would have been nice to have that info in the tooltip so I wouldn't have wasted a lot of time and gold to craft this item.
