The reason for using this over a Glowing Nightseye is to get a socket bonus. If for example you put in the Nightseye into a yellow socket, and the bonus you lose it +5 damage, you will have lost overall damage. If however, the slot is blue or red, go with the Nightseye.

Yeah, one of the main reasons I like it is coz it fits in a yellow socket and I havn't really seen any other good gems that do.

This blows everything else out of the water simply because it has hit, which per rating will yield a lot of % to hit (8 rating = 1% at 70, IIRC) all spells are going to benefit from hit, and you're going to be far from the hit ceiling (16% for level 73 mobs, IIRC). So, hands down, it's the best gem for damage output in end-game scenarios.

After patch 2.1, this gem will no longer be unique, so you can have as many of them as you want.

Sweet, a reason to keep doing heroic Mech after I get my trinket.

No one say the new helm is a good reason, because it pretty much bites.

Aren't these Unique-equipped? because i have 2 on my bank and they are unique-equipped.. or is it because i got them before the patch?

This is an excellent gem for the raiding Shadow Priest needing to fill yellow sockets. Yes, one is tempted to go straight +9's, but some meta gems and even socket bonuses on Tier 5 and 6 are worthwhile.

A prime example is this socketed in a Hood of the Avatar.

Easily obtainable too.

http://www.wowhead.com/?item=32221 is EXACTLY like this gem, so if your not in the mood to spend the money on BT gems in the AH or spending 15 badges for the gem, you can head down to Heroic Mech and try to get yourself one of these while farming some badges for gear.

If by chance you want to socket your gear you acquire from badges with this gem for bonuses put it into...

AND as of 2.4 you can put as many of these gems on you as you want since they are no longer unique equip.

Just bought Leggings of the Seventh Circle for my Destro Lock off the AH, this came pre-socketed. Don't know why, but it seems socketing this into a BOE item does -not- make it Soulbound.
