Easy to get to with stealth or invisibility; there're no guards in the immediate vicinity of the strongbox.

Easiest way to reach this other than using a flying mount is to go around the outside to the back, worst mob to fight this way is the Eclipsian Hawkstriders and maybe an occaisional Blood Elf. Do a little hop next to the wall the abuts the mountain at the back and you can sneak all the way to within 30 yards of the box. Kill a couple mobs there so your not walked over on, then grab the rod and go back the way you came. Solo'd this quest in less than five minutes this way

I did get killed doing this one just outside the pavilion - but when I walked back as a ghost, I walked just past my corpse, saw the box, resurrected there, opened it, took the key, and flew off before I got attacked. Guess that's a more extreme version of stealth and invisibility!
