These seem to be the Wrath of the Lich King equivalent of the Glowcaps of the Sporeggar in The Burning Crusade.

You can turn these into Ahlurglgr for various goods after completing the Winterfin Commerce quest.

Allthough drop chance from murlocks isn't great , there are plenty of these clams around the murlock huts , aswell as inside the cave . Getting 100 of these is easier than it might seem .My guess is that you will need about 1 hour , without competition at least

These clams are VERY small and are located on the shore by the merlocks as well as on the cliff walls underwater. Zoom in to see them better (much smaller than the clam quests in strangelthorn valley)

For the sake of experiment I decided to grind out 100 of these to buy a Siren's Tear. Took me just under one hour, and I didn't really come out ahead in terms of vendor trash vs. repairs. However, I did get my gem from Ahlurglgr, and if you're a miner there are a few cobalt nodes at the bottom of the incredibly deep underwater ravine between where the clams are and the friendly murlocs. So all in all I came out with 22 cobalt ore, 2 Siren's Tear (see below), and not much else. As for this being a grinding spot, it wasn't worth the time spent to earn the gem, and I could have found just as much cobalt out questing.

I would just hop on a flyer mount looking for mining nodes all over northrend and take my chances prospecting to get the gem if you're looking for them specifically. The best thing to come from my experiment was having a http://www.wowhead.com/?item=44700 drop for me, which when I opened it gave me a second Siren's Tear.

funny how it says "Winterfin won't take it unless it's unopened" but the animation when picking it off the floor is the clam opening.

Not sure what happened to the vendor, but he no longer has the gems available.

I am an Herbalist/Alchemist, so maybe it switched to only allowing gem cutters to see them like the engineering parts for the hog?

EDIT: Thanks alot Phal... Was up there within the early hours of release and through out that morning he always had them, assumed they were standard sellable items.

Took me about 40 minutes to grab 100, just running around the huts by the Murlocs as well as killing them... now to wait for the clam vendor to have the gem.

An easier way to get them, for me, was to use a Nagrand Cherry, which i had plenty of left from Nagrand, and swim around in the river.
There were lots of them, no competition, and nearly no time consuming murlocs.

At first, 100 of these little clams for a siren's tear seems like a lot, but I ended up with about 85 by the time I finished the Winterfin quests, from drops and ones I spotted nearby. The remaining 15 took me less than 5 min to grab. I didn't go looking for these while questing. I just made sure to grab any that were nearby. The siren's tears are still going for about 220g on my server, which means that each one of these clams I picked up was worth 2.2g.

Now the Siren's Tear is limited quantity. I don't know the respawn time, but this is a quick and easy way to make some extra cash while questing if it's available.

These things are all over the Winterfin camp. You'll usually find them mixed in with the seaweed piles or next to the structures, including those in the cave. Just clear away the murlocs and loot. You can easily pick up 30 within 10 minutes. Their placement around the camp is fixed with pretty quick respawn times. Have fun!

Using a Elixir of Water Breathing enchanced with Mixology I managed to farm 181 of these in the hour it lasted.

This at level 77, where I rarely pulled agro from the murlocs, and specced for Pursuit of Justice (15% movement speed increase) which may or may not have increased my swim speed. I were also alone at the rift which removed any competition and ganking/corpserunning from the equation.

These are found at the bottom of The Westrift and on the various ledges of the same all the way along Scalder's patrol path and a bit out into the mouth of the bay. Some can also be found almost at beach depth on the west, "evil murloc", side so that's worth checking out.

They spawn frequently and you can easily swim back and forth and grab bunches of these once you've memorized the spawnpoints for the clams.

Probably not worth farming for the cash generated by selling these, unless they're really expensive on your server, but if you're like me and refuse to pay for items you can farm yourself it's not a bad way to spend an hour or two.

it says on my druid, requires only 50 clams now, dont know bout the rest, ill retype this post when i go for it on my hunter, hes 67 atm, and easily 70 when im done in borean.Perfect for any spec hunter, feral druid, and even some dks if your after damage, although agil is kind of pointless, nice damage.

If you really have issues with aggroing the murlocs, you can just complete quests until you get the murloc costume and run around farming to your delight and dancing with fish men.

Clams will still drop and be able to be picked up from the ground regardless of completing the quest or not.

This is an excellent use of time for a 69 - 71 hunter of any spec. With a lvl 72 hunter using a water breathing potion I managed to get the very nice polearm with only about 30 minutes of diving. The best area is if you go very far down in the valley where 'Surger' resides. There are lots dotted about, they are quite small but bright white and when you hover over them they come up with a cog so you can check things far out. Less murlocs to have to kill down there and plenty of clams so you can get this quickly.

The murlocs themselves are a distraction, if you can get a few off the kills you have to make to get to the lams then great but otherwise don't bother going on land and farming them, get a bit wet instead :)

These can be "collected" from quite a distance away, so it's quite easy to use a flying mount to position yourself on the opposite side of the clam from any murlocks and pick off the clams one by one, hardly causing any aggro. Just sticking to the shoreline, towards the rear of the huts, for example, is a good way to avoid wasting time killing murlocks - though I will say the murlocks have a half decent drop rate of clams themselves.

When collecting these, take note: you're looking for the CLOSED clams, not the open ones. The Opened clams that you find will give you an error message about, "You are too far away to use this object!" The Closed clams will open and give you the clams you're looking for.
Also, the nearby Winterfin baddies drop these as well.

just did a farm run for 50 for the weapon today and the murloc drop rate for these seem to have been increased alot.

Around and on the Winterfin Huts and in the seaweed on the ground too. Drop rate from Winterfin Murlocs is minimal.

Ahlurglrl at 43,14 in Borean Tundra accepts these in exchange for items. The only bop item worth getting these days is a cloth head xmog worth 30 of these (link below). The drop rate is much better than what wowhead says, plus they're laying all over the place (but they're kind of hard to see if you're not looking for them). You'll get it in no time at all.

Head into the caves for easy clams, kill any murloc in sight, afterwards do laps outside. The new interact key also helps to speep up collecting.

I got 50 clams for the trident in about 10-15 minutes this way.
