This may be prospected from both Cobalt and Saronite Ore, and obviously far more likely from Saronite.

Infact, prospecting Saronite yields a small chance of receiving two Scarlet Rubies.

You can now buy Forest Emerald, Sky Sapphire, Twilight Opal, Monarch Topaz, Autumn's Glow, Scarlet Ruby for 10 x Emblem of Heroism each.

I'd say the most needed cuts of Scarlet Ruby would be..

Most specifically;

Runed (19 spellpower)
Bold (16 strength)

Less so;

Bright (32 attackpower)
Perhaps also Delicate (16 agility)

This said out of a money making perspective (I've managed to sell alot of these for prices "far" above matprice, atleast bold and runed). If you have a good experience from any of the other red gems, reply this post with infoz.

This gem has the most profitable cuts of all the blue gems, with Sky Sapphire being the least profitable. Depending on server prices, Scarlet ruby cuts can go for 75g+. Sky sapphire usually less than 30g, with others hovering around 50g.

Depending on your playstyle/focus, you're sure to have spare emblems/honor/arena points (100ap=2khonor)/keeper shards (30 shards=2k honor). These sell around 50g in my server. So instead of keeping that 10k honor for nothing you may as well get these and sell them. Even better, if you can get them cut cheap, you can sell the cut ones for even moar profit.

I just sold two of these each for ~60g so that i can buy 2 frozen orbs at 50g, so that i can make icy prisms(the other mats are only a few gold in all) which nets me 2-3 gems like this(different colors) and possibly a dragon's eye. This is insanely easy to do for skilling up to 450 if you like doing it this way. It might not be as much money than the other way unless you get more than a dragon's eye or two, in that case it is immensely worth it whether you cut the eye or you sell it.

Since the 3.2 patch all WotLK rare gems can no longer be bought for Emblem of Heroism. Intended or not - they are removed from all known vendors and replaced by epic ones.

i get less gems from prospecting saronite than i do prospecting cobalt. usually i get two gems from prospecting cobalt whereas i get 1 from saronite on the average. maybe i just have crap luck when it comes to prospecting the 500 saronite i did about a week ago
