Dropped from an iron dwarf in grizzly hills for me today. I at first wasn't too excited by it, but this recipie is learnable at BS 375, and stays orange (aka guaranteed skill ups) right until 405. So you can gain 30 skills in blacksmithing for only 4 cobalt bars per level.

An awesome drop, has saved me a tonne of gold and time. Definately worth going after one of these.

This recipe is amazing, 4 cobalt per helm, and it stayed red until 400. Cheaper to make than a lot of gray recipes were at the time.

I think i killed at least 50 of the iron rune-shapers before i got it. If your alliance, you might as well as do all of the quests in and around Thor Modan. I'm 90% sure you will get it before you have done all of the quests in the area.

Dropped for me when my skill was 1.

While smithing, went yellow at 405, green at 410... not gonna waste materials to see when it goes grey.

Went to grind it with lvl 71 DK. Dropped from about 15th mob. Really did take me about 10min of killing those creatures.

their 5-6 min respawn timer is what will limit your farming speed for these

Just want to pass on an apparent stealth buff to the drop rate of the reinforced cobalt patterns. I’ve been farming missing recipes on my alts (passing the time until Mists) and today was my blacksmith’s day. I got the helm, legs and chest patterns in less than 20 kills each, and the helm actually only took 9 kills. Get to farming in case Blizz reverts back to the old drop rates! :D

I got this today, 6/17/2012 - patch 4.3.4. So the pattern still does drop.

There are 21 Iron Rune-Shapers that spawn in the Thor Modan area. I found that one spawned in a location I could not get to - seemed like under one of the buildings. For the 20 that spawned normally, none are linked to other mobs, so all can be pulled individually. They do not share spawn points with the nearby Rune Reavers, so you can safely kill on the Rune-Shapers.

As mentioned in another comment, the respawn rates are a little low. Not as bad as Forge Camp Anger, but still low enough that you'll be tempted to go do something else after you clear Thor Modan of Rune-Shapers.

For me, the pattern dropped after 91 kills. This was about 5 clears of Thor Modan over a 3 session span.

Farmed all these patterns in one day. The helm was by far the worst (50+.) Got the pants, chest, and shoulders in under ten mobs each.

I farmed Sculpterune-de-fers for over an hour trying to get the Plans : Heaume en cobalt renforcé to drop. In desperation, I then decided to see if picking up any quests would help improve the drop rate. First I completed Le journal endommagé and turned that in, and picked up the next quest in that chain, which is La pierre-clé runique. With that in my quest log, I went back to start farming again. The Plans : Heaume en cobalt renforcé dropped on my very first Sculpterune-de-fer. Ain't RNG just funny that way? Or ... could it be? ... Anyway if you're suffering from "Ohgodpleasedropalreadyitis," maybe try taking a few quests? Then call me in the morning and lemme know how that worked out for you. :) PS - did this on a level 90 toon with Blacksmithing skill at 600.

Farmed Thor Modan (/Way 66.17, 17.60) for about 15 minutes and got the plans from an Iron-Rune Shaper.

You can mount inside the inner area but the not the gateway. There seems to be some form of hyper-spawning, I never had an instance where there were no mobs up at one time.
