As big a cooldown as this has, I have found it very useful for my rogue that's on a PvP server. Since it doesn't slow movement speed, I've coupled this with Sprint (using Sprint first, then the cloaking device) and saved myself from a ganking by a much-higher-level player many a time!

This item CAN be used in combat, however the mob or person your fighting will still see you because he targeted you before BUT you can do this: If you're a hunter even if your doing PvE or PvP if u use Feign death and THEN this the enemy won't see you for 10 secs. Next, if you're a rogue (like me) you can vanish (and that doesnt always work since patch 2.1 on guards) and after vanishing you have a breif moment of out of combat. And if you use it within that period of time (about 1 second) you can get away with it. Also some other things about this trinket: You can cast ANY spell and unlike night elf's shadow meld, you dont leave invisibility untill AFTER the cast is over. But dont expect to pyroblast ur enemy, you can't see anything once you use it, unless your enemy sees through invisibility. I made a macro This and hearth. horde ganks me. Rez and use it, they think I used vanish and jump around some. And lastly, you can use this to run past mobs as long as they didnt attack you before you used this.

Please note that any pets you have will not become invisible along with you upon using this trinket. If you are trying to avoid detection by using this trinket, be sure to dismiss your pet first.

Used this trinket at early levels (because I had no others) if you can get far enough away from a target, and have no DoTs on you. About 1 second after you use it you will loose agro.

Are there any other trinkets like this one that give invisibility that lasts longer or\and has a better cooldown?
And are there any not-trinket items that give invisibility? I know about the (lesser) invisibility potions but they are very expensive on my server and I need invisibility because its very usefull in pvp for me.

I've only done this with potions of invisibility (not lesser), but the idea is pretty much the same and I wager it would work fine with this trinket too.

If you're coming up the ramp in Warsong Gulch to get your enemy's flag, check the little nook to see if the speed boost is there. If it is, grab it and then pop this. Provided there aren't any hunter traps sitting on the flag, chances are the other team won't even realize you've taken off with their flag until you've made it out the first doorway.

I'm not saying this is a failsafe way to cap, but it's a fun(ny) way to try and I can almost guarantee you'll at least manage to grab the flag.

I had nothing to do for a while and decided to fool around with this a bit, this isn't make it break it kind of information but as far as I know it hadn't been mentioned yet.

If you attempt to mount up while invisible you will break the effect, and with such a long cooldown it can be quite disappointing.

One of my favorite engineering items. This item does take you out of combat and, if used in combination with Jumper Cables, Gnomish Army Knife, or a resurrection spell, will give you a battle rez with a 1 hour CD.

This has to be pretty overpowered if used in conjunction with the rocket boots in arena. Pop invisible, pop boots, run somewhere safe. The enemy has NO idea what happened. Can't wait to try it!

I don't know when it was changed, I've been an engineer since release and I know it never used to drop combat, but

As of 3.0.8 the Cloaking Device DOES REMOVE YOU FROM COMBAT WHEN USED and can be used to survive wipes, drop aggro, or leave combat!

I just discovered this change today and I have not used this item in an instance yet, but I have used it repeatedly today during questing to test it and it removes me from combat every time.

Just wanted to add that it can in fact still be used as famous mage Vurtne uses it at the opening scene in Vurtne 3 (4?). Just click this and Pyroblast, for example, at the same time, and then remove the buff by right-clicking it, just before the actual spell is fired. This might need some training to execute good, but shouldn't be too hard. Good luck!

Bahh, I should've thought about using this trinket (I always carry it in my engi bag) when some hordes decided to kill me for no reason. They were chasing me for like 4 minutes and finally got me when I thought it was safe to dismount.
But this + Hearthsone would have save my life :)
(trinket lasts 10 secs, HS has 10 sec cast time)

We're getting a new version in cata with a 5 minute CD.

It also has a very fun chance of failure.

Hope it makes it to release; shame it takes the same slot as the Parachute Cloak.

one good question that i couldnt find an answer is: can this used in combat?.

the new tinker Invisibility Field is better for have a shorter CD and greater duration but cant be used in combat.

now if this can, is highly valuable and really better than Invisibility Field. specially for fishing in pvp servers as mine, where the allies love hunt down horde when they are fishing. i was wondering if this can be used in combat for give you 10 sec to change your fishing pole for weapons or cast your flying mount if they are group of gankers (as usual in my server).
