I picked one of these up a couple minutes ago. I was hoping it was a rare pet or something. It should be! :D
But as mentioned above, it just spawns another dig rat for you to kill. :/

While playing a warlock, spawning the rat despawns your pet. So beware. Ate a shard only to get another Unconscious Dig Rat. =/

A SHS rogue could probably find a use for these. The ability to place a free critter to Shadowstep to could come in handy in some situations.

The rat will stay in the place where it was spawned (wont move around). If you aggro it without killing it, it will run around but will always reset back to where you spawned him. If it isnt killed it seems to stay around for a very long time. I just checked back on my rat that i spawned 4 hours ago and it was still there.

This would be worth farming if it spawned more than one rat... it doesn't which to me makes it more of an added hassel than anything...I'd rather not have to kill the rat twice to get the item I need =/

I recently dropped one in Silvermoon, a bit out of sight.

It's going to stay there for a very long time, noone knows how to get where it is :D

And I've sworn to keep the secret, so I can't say it on Wowhead. lolz

I hope to come back after 3 weeks of festival stuff and find it still scurrying about in that spot...

Which it probably will be, and I'll comment again confirming that it's permanent until someone kills it... lol

It seemed to me that this item tends to drop more if you kill the rat with weak attacks. Might have been a coincidence though.

A Shammiesv Wind Shear can be used to cause aggro without doing damage as well. With the right amount of timing and skill it can be used to misdirect/pull mobs to the tank.

As a rogue i also use this to take the flag in WSG, place it on the balcony, take flag shadow step to it and off i go. Easy way to take the flag vs Heavy defense groups

- that's basicly what an exploit is, he's using an item for something other than it's intended use, calling it an exploit is indeed the correct term.

Just killed this today. Its useless other than for the fact that you get to kill a Dig Rat again. Its just a way to kill another Dig Rat for another chance to get a Dig Rat Stew recipe.

My brother just sold one for 100g(not sure why someone would buy it)
when the guy used it, my brother killed the rat and then offered to sell him the meat it dropped.

This can actually be used to place a target-able Dig Rat in the world. Rarely useful, but it has its tactical applications, such as for use via Shadowstep to get up to a location quickly. Was famously used to solo Patchwerk:

I actually found out about this from a youtube video by a man named Jiderstep, he used this rat to solo Patchwerk at level 80 during WotLK on live servers by putting the rat in the tunnel above and shadow stepping it in order to get away from Patch and heal, and continued doing that and waiting for evasion to come off cool down and after about 5 hours of this (yeah I know right? he did this for 5 hours straight 0_o) he managed to kill Patchwerk which is pretty amazing.

Once you've looted the item, you right click and get a cast bar to place the rat directly in front of you. I was hoping you could choose where to place it with a green circle but that is not the case.
