None of my friends or guildies have been able to get this to drop from Gilblingle. It's likely to have been removed from the game in the wake of last-minute leveling improvements Blizzard pushed before Cata went live on EU servers..

i just did it on the horde side it seems the rolling restarts have fixed the problem of it not dropping the broken necklace drops now too

Same problem here, got it alliance but my horde cant, must be glitched for horde. Both drop quests in that area have been available alliance but not horde.

No luck on horde side for me either - killed Gilbingle 3 times.

Notes on the Lady La-La's medallion page say that that quest did not make it to live.

I got it today on my night elf hunter. Had to kill Gilblingle several times until he dropped it.

Both quests, Backfin's booty and Lady La-La's medallion, with the respective drop items that start them, are randomly bugged, so my suggestion as I did, is to ask to somebody to drop it for you and then share the quest since both of them are sharable.

Happy sharing... it's Christmas time by the way so it make sense ^^

You need to be on quest Oh, the Insanity! for this item to drop. If you completed Oh, the Insanity! already then get someone on this quest in your party, kill Gilblingle until the journal drops, let him/her loot it and share the quest to you.

This quest is currently bugged for those under level 80, my level 78 DK used an epic mount and frostwalk to get to the area from off the coast of the dwarven homelands.

Got this item on the first kill but although the text states min level 78, on use it states that your too low level for the quest.

I just tried for the drop with my horde pally, I had the quest "Oh, the Insanity!" as well, I killed him at least 10 times and no drop.
I tried to do it on my shaman as well without the quest that is apparently needed and no dice then either.

Tried killing him today 8 times on my level 85 horde paladin, no drop on the quest item.

Killed him about 10 times so far on my 82 paladin. Nothing.

Horde Troll Warrior and I (Undead Rogue) killed Giblingle repeatedly (as well as Giblin Collectors for the Necklace) with no luck. He went over to his Alliance 84 Worgen DK and got BOTH on first try.

All THREE characters have finished all Vash'jir quests so you do NOT need to be on a particular quest to get these drops. Just seems completely broken for Horde.

Also quests are shareable with friends - even as far away as Darnassus.

Horde Troll Priest - Frostmane US - killed about 15 times or so - no Waterlogged Journal

I've done all other quests in the zone.

Seems from the posts above and my own experiences, that it's fair to assume this and the necklace quest are little short of 'random' for what seems to be horde players only. I have indeed got one or the other to drop for a couple of my horde toons, but seem to have no luck with my other ones.

Also fair to assume that being on a certain quest, or wearing a certain colour of underwear has no effect at all, if it drops it does, if not, no idea :(

Hoping that 4.0.6 will fix this, other than that, has anyone poked a GM about it?

If these quests still ain't working come 4.0.6, I will chase a GM with a large stick for some kind of answer.

I have killed this freakish goblin/catfish hybrid about 3 dozen times today (Saturday) and no drop. I killed him about as many times yesterday. I had completed all quests originating in the Smuggler's Hole. No dice. This was on Horde. I logged into an Alliance toon and no drops after about 15 kills. I logged into another Horde toon just for kicks and I'll be damned if both the Blackfin map and the necklace quest starter didn't drop on the first kill. This bug must be per toon and makes no sense.

Made a ticket; GM basically said "you meet the requirements for these quests, good luck farming them". Remade the ticket, next GM said "bug has been escalated to the developers, they're working on it".

Also made a ticket, GM said, and I'm directly quoting, "I suggest reading up on the Waterlogged Journal on wowhead.com. Read over the comments from other players. This may help explain what is going on." I guess the GMs are getting sick of tickets for this thing...

After i hit 85 i went back to find the 2 missing quest, the waterlogged journal and lady la la necklace, which they both dropped from the first 5 gilblin collectors i killed. Maybe comming back at 85 was the trick, not sure but maybe.

I've actually come back for these very 2 quests at 85. I've been 85 for a while and I only found out about these quests' existence via wowhead's client. I've done every other quest in Vash'jir - the client confirms this for me, and neither Gilblingle nor the Gilbin Collectors are giving me the necklace/journal quest items. I've ticketed a GM in the vain hope that I can get some more info, but we shall see.

19/7/11 - I'm now levelling my DK through the area with my partner, who was able to get these quests instantly. Again, my DK couldn't see the items. My partner shared the quests with my DK and I logged my hunter and got him to share those as well xD Guess the best I can recommend is to get friends/guildies to stay on the lookout when in these areas and if they get them, get them to share them with you :D

Killed him (while I was on the Un point à débattre part of the quest chain, if that matters) and Carnet détrempé dropped the first time

Hmm...just killed him 10 times in a row with no journal.... At the most, I could have 3 of his dead bodies and 1 live one (that is, 4 of him visible) before the dead ones started disappearing. Anyone able to do better? <sigh>

As of Patch 6.1, this does drop from Gilblinge. Probably need to be on or have finished Budd's powder quest though. I wasn't able to get the Gilbin quests like the necklace and Blackfin's Booty when I just came straight to Gurboggle's Ledge directly, but when I came while I was on the powder quest or afterwards, everything dropped.

As of February 13, 2023, this works. I came back because AllTheThings (FANTSTIC addon for collectors/completionists) said I had two quests unfinished here. Found the goblin, popped him, he dropped quest item, found orca, popped him, got quest item, went to treasuree, opened it, completed quest.
